Chapter 2: Magic.

[5 years after Rumia's hatching]

"Voltage Burst!" Great waves of white lightning traveled through the air and obliterated a tree.

"See Rumia? That's magic." Vesper said to Rumia who was looking at the tree with awe.

"I can do that?" Rumia asked her father who responded with a nod.

"Of course you can and you'll probably be really good at it too! Considering you are my daughter." Vesper said with great amounts of pride in his voice.

"Oh, she's just your daughter?" Astoria said as her figure appeared behind Vesper. Vesper turned around and laughed slightly.

"It was a joke, a joke." Vesper said as his body turned into white lightning and he disappeared. Astoria laughed at her husband's actions and walked over to Rumia.

"Alright Rumia, did Papa teach you anything about magic?" Astoria questioned and Rumia nodded with enthusiasm.

"Yeah! He went like this!" Rumia attempted to recreate her father's attack but only created a small spark from her fingers. Astoria had a surprised look on her face from her daughter's attempt to recreate her father's attack.

"Rumia, did Papa explain magic to you or did he show you a single spell?" Astoria asked and Rumia placed a hand on her chin.

"No, Papa only showed me a spell! I wanted to try and do what he did." Rumia responded and Astoria smiled at her daughter's innocence.

'She's a monster. She used magic on her first try with no explanation.' Astoria thought to herself as she hugged Rumia.

"Now it's Mama's turn to show you her magic, are you ready?" Astoria asked and Rumia nodded with excitement.

"Alright then. Ignite." Astoria pointed to a tree and an orange magic circle with a Phoenix in the middle appeared above the tree and let loose orange flames that could be felt from their position which was 60 meters away.

"That was so cool! I wanna try!" Rumia excitedly said as she tried replicating her mother's spell.

"I-Ignite!" Rumia tried to recreate her mother's spell but instead of burning a tree, she turned it into Ethernano particles. Rumia immediately fell to one knee and Astoria helped her daughter up with her expression full of worry.

"What was that Rumia?" Astoria asked and Rumia shrugged.

"I don't know Mama, I tried to what you did but it wasn't coming out so I tried harder then that happened. I'm sorry!" Rumia said as tears began falling down her face and she hugged her mother. Astoria understood what happened and hugged her daughter.

"Why are you sorry Rumia? You just awakened your innate magic!" Astoria said and Rumia looked up with confusion.

"What's that Mama?" Rumia asked and Astoria smiled. Astoria swiped her hand and they were transported to a large dojo filled with weapons, training equipment, and Vesper.

"What am I doing here?" The blood-covered Vesper asked. Astoria swiped her hand once again to clean her husband and began to explain herself.

"Our daughter has just awakened her Innate Magic so we will start 'Project: my daughter will not be a weakling' early." Astoria explained and Vesper nodded.

"So what is her Innate Magic? Is it like a combination of our magic or a stronger version of each others magic?" Vesper asked and Astoria told Rumia to demonstrate.

"Okay!" Rumia pointed her finger to a random spot in the room and began channeling her Ethernano once again.

"Disintegrate!" A red magic circle with an A in the middle was created from Rumia's finger and a wall in the dojo was turned into Ethernano particles. Rumia's body was dripping with sweat and she panted with exhaustion.

"Good job Rumia." Astoria said as she pats her daughter's head cleaned the sweat off her body. Vesper looked at the former dojo wall and had a look of surprise on his face.

"Incredible. She completely disintegrated the wall, and it looks like she already knows how to use magic. I assume you explained it to her because I most surely didn't." Vesper said with awe.

"I didn't explain magic to her. She attempted to replicate your spell and obviously failed but she still managed to create a spark of white lightning." Astoria told her husband and Vesper looked at his daughter with a great amount of pride as he began to tear up.

"That's my daughter!" Vesper yelled as he ran and hugged Rumia with tears streaming down his face.

"Papa! You're gonna get my shirt wet!" Rumia said as she tried pulling herself away from her crying father. Astoria laughed and Vesper eventually let go of his daughter.

"Mama, you never explained what Innate Magic is." Rumia tugged on Astoria's leg and demanded an explanation.

"Innate Magic is magic that people are born with. Innate Magic is very common amongst Magical Beasts but is rarely seen in sentient races. A hybrid like yourself had a 50% to gain an Innate Magic and if you did it would be my Phoenix Flames but I think something else happened." Astoria explained and Rumia understood.

"What do you mean by something else happened?" Vesper asked.

"I think Rumia's Innate Magic is a combination of Phoenix and lightning traits. This means there has to be a second part to her Innate Magic." Astoria said and Vesper thought about it.

"A second part? Do you think she took the destructive abilities of lightning and the regenerative abilities of a Phoenix? If she did it wouldn't be that powerful, it would be slightly stronger than my White Lightning." Vesper said.

"True but I think something else amplified those two abilities to the absolute limit, perhaps her hybrid birth? I also believe the second part of her Innate Magic is the opposite of what she showed us. Instead of disintegrating things, it rebuilds things, although I don't know it if has a limit." Astoria said and Rumia tugged on her leg again.

"What is it, honey?" Astoria asked and Rumia smiled.

"I feel another thing, I don't know how to bring it out." Rumia said and Astoria had a great idea.

'Vesper, I'm going to injure and heal you. I think whatever Rumia is feeling could be the second part we are talking about.' Astoria told Vesper telepathically and he nodded in agreement. Astoria pointed her finger at Vesper and a small cut opened on his cheek.

"Papa are you okay?!" Rumia rushed over to her Father with worry.

"It's fine it's just a small cut, Mama is gonna heal me." Vesper said as Astoria healed Vesper as Rumia watched.

"I'll heal you too Papa!" Rumia said as she closed her eyes and a giant green magic circle appeared below Rumia's feet. Her hair began to rise and her eyes turned completely green.

"R-Reconstruct!" Rumia yelled as a wave of green washed over the dojo and Rumia collapsed on the floor. Her parents rushed over to her and picked her up.

"Seems like her Innate Magic uses a lot of Ethernano." Vesper said as he placed her on his back.

"Vesper, do you feel any different?" Astoria asked as she looked at the dojo wall that was previously disintegrated.

"Now that you mention it, I feel like I'm in my prime again before my 100-year quest. All my old scars and injuries seem to have vanished." Vesper said with surprise and awe.

"I don't think her second ability is just healing. It's as she said, Reconstruct. She rebuilt everything that was hit by that green wave to its peak state." Astoria said as she pointed at the dojo wall.

"We've birthed a true monster." Vesper said he looked at the dojo wall.
