Adrien sat on the bed, his clothes in disarray. “I’m fine, Alpha, just a few bruises. Thank you, Alpha Mate, for your concern.”

“How did you manage to break his leg?” Etienne’s gaze still followed his hands up and down Julio’s body as he checked for injuries.

“I tripped the bastard when he tried to get me from behind. My father sent me to a friend of his to learn Krav Maga when it was apparent I was fem at nine.” Julio acted matter-of-fact about the whole incident so as not to worry Etienne. Inside he was shaking.

“That was why you said you could hold your own against the older teens that attacked you at the group home.” The light dawned on Etienne’s face.
