After about ten minutes, Rémy came out of Marc’s office. “They’ll be here in about fifteen minutes. May I ask, what is the problem?”

“Xavier Charron,” Etienne said and the other Alpha winced.

Rémy grimaced. “He’s the one with the nephew in Alpha training. His brother married an Alpha’s daughter. Alpha Morgan Leblanc is the grandsire’s name. He moved to Etienne’s territory from mine because we already had an Alpha in training, Christophe Martel. Charron’s nephew is Maurice. Maurice is potentially a good Alpha, but he needs decades of seasoning before he can take on the role. When he was in the Catskills, Xavier tried to do everything he could to make me discard Christophe as my successor and pick his nephew. Frankly, Xavier is standing in Maurice’s way, and until he is removed, Maurice will be difficult. Difficult enough to issue challenges to the council because his uncle has given him an exaggerated sense of his own importance.”
