“You should have told us that in the first place!” Selena shouted.
“Are you really saying that now!” Ruddeth said.
“Who told you to snoop around outside our cave like a thief?” she asked.
“I just stood there and waited,” he shrugged his shoulders. “Surely that does not make me a thief?”
“Admit that it’s your fault!” she said. “Else, you shall be branded as a petty thief!”
“What?!” Ruddeth shook his head and turned to Hertha, standing at the edge of the crater. “What about you? Are you also just as crazy as her?”
Hertha sighed, “Just agree to whatever she says for now if you don’t want things to escalate any further.”
“This is just absurd!” he said.
“You wanted to talk, right?” Hertha asked. “That’s the least you can do to show us your sincerity.”
Ruddeth closed his eyes; he frowned and rubbed his forehead until his expression finally eased.
Then, opening his eyes again, he took a long deep breath, “I apologise.”
