(Before you stands a great dead tree.)
(Thog motions you along the lonely path.)
Thog: We try to keep the paying adventurers away from here...
..because "the tree makes them sad" is what the guildmaster says.
Markus: It is a tragic piece of vegetation, Thog.
Alexander: I quite like it reminds me of home just less on fire
Thog: Anyway dpeaking of tragedy, let's talk about this problem you both will be solving for us.
Markus: Oh, let's.
Thog: Okay, so in addition to the normal amount of disappearances.....that just sorta "happen"...when we give the adventurers real-life weaponry...Um...
...adventurers have been turning up torn to pieces. Now, the monsters on our island are...mostly...sheep and other creatures dressed up to look like monsters. Nothing capable of literally tearing a person in half.
Markus: I noticed a little of that from up on the tower, yes.
Thog: So, what you're gonna be doing is you need to hunt this thing down. Kill it.
Markus: Very good. I've certainly done my fair share of monsterslaying in my days. Ah, now, what exactly has been killing the... "adventurers"?
Thog: We were hoping you could tell us.
Markus: Oh, so you have literally no idea? You're sending me... You're sending us out blind?
Thog: Understand that people go missing on this island...all the time Mr. Velafi.
Markus: Of course they do. Of course they do.
Alexander: I blame that drink of a map maker for that one
Thog: Anyway, to help you out. We arranged two additional companions who should prove helpful in the monsterslaying.
Markus: Well, I don't generally require assistance, but I suppose that it couldn't hurt. As long as I don't have to pay them.
Marcus eyes slightly trying to get that point across to him
Thog: We'll in fact pay you extra for taking these three off our hands.
Markus: It would be my pleasure then.
(We travel into the town of Meadshire through a gaudy-looking gate.)
(As we enter the town of Meadshire. The grass is bright green... and the paint on the houses is HORRIFIC to the eyes.)
Markus: * Marcus shields his eyes* Oh my god... It is offensive to every sensibility that I have!
Thog: It's also incredibly fragile so, eer, no touching.
Markus and Alexander: *sigh*
Thog: now, the first of your stalward companions is, eh...He's the only adventurer that's shown up on the island that's shown ANY sort of promise. He didn't have much money but we let him in anyway...in exchange for some strange traits.
Markus: The only one ever? How ever many thousands of...foolish people have...
paid to try their hand at the adventuring life here?
Thog: When you're at this job long enough you realise that most of humanity is pretty sad.
Markus: It's true. It's true, yes.
Alexander: trust me there are worse death traps than this one out their
Thog: So, this fellow...Wandering through town just like us...he get's caught in a classic adventurer trap that we set up as...sort of entertainment, you know?
Markus: Hmh.
Thog: Eh, the idea behind it is...Eh...You're framed for murder, you get sent to jail...You know, you have to break yourself out, the guard asleep with the keys...It's really classic stuff, the adventurers love it.
Markus: It is very classic. Horribly cliche really and I'm surprised that...Eh, no matter. So, you're saying that he has completely, what...Ignored the possibility to steal the key from the guard?
Thog: He's been caught in there for three days, yeah.
Markus: Huh.
We've had to begin construction on a second jailhouse...specifically because of this asshole.
Markus: Well, couldn't you just put another adventurer in with him...who would then, perhaps...show him how to escape?
Thog: We tried it for a while, but, eh...huh, that's a different story.
(You finally reach a low building...that on the side of which is printed in big block letters JAIL)
Thog: So, here we are.
