Chapter 126

"Hey Blondie, can that stick you used earlier help us pass through walls?" asked Alvin.

"Who the hell are you calling Blondie?" he yelled back.

"Can it or not?" asked Alvin again.

"Of course it can" he said quickly after the door almost came out of hunger due to another impact. "But it will leave a trace. This guy can obviously destroy the wall and come after us"

"Well, we just have to go behind another reinforced metal door then" said Alvin, as he walked up to the fake painting he had placed on the secret door, which was already half-burnt and tossed it aside. He then picked up a metal cylinder from the ground, and smashed the mechanical lock, so that their pursuers couldn't easily open it.

He then beckoned towards Blonde, who tapped the stick against the door. An outline of a door opened. As soon as Blondie pushed the stick through the door, the outline turned shiny. Alvin took the initiative to go first into the online to prevent Blondie from cutting it off later.

As soon as they stepped into the room, they could hear the sound of what they assumed was the bronze door to the room flying off its hinges.

Alvin rushed through the cramped passageway, with Blondie following closely behind him. Soon they entered the room filled with crates upon crates of gunpowder.

Seeing all this gunpowder, Blondie paled with fright.

"There is an exit over there. It's blocked by a huge machine, but you can use that stick of yours to get through" said Alvin helpfully, as the Blondie did help him earlier.

But Blondie shook his head. The factory was obviously blockaded by powerful Beyonders, and he didn't like his chances. Evidently, he did not know of this secret passage before, and since Alvin knew, maybe he assumed that Alvin had a different way out of here.

Alvin was curious on what Blondie came here to do. He was obviously not a part of the Beyodners who worked for the factory's backer, and judging by that useful mystical item in the form of a stick, he came prepared to sneak in. Alvin's best guess was that he was after the contents of the safe in that room. Even he felt very tempted by it. After all, there was several thousand pounds worth of artwork just randomly lying around. While it was not uncommon for some people to be able to own that, he expected them to be in a well-guarded mansion, or in a highly secure facility, not in a cramped factory in the middle of St. George Borough. For someone who was okay with keeping such valuable items in a factory, he was also tempted to take a look at what he deemed valuable enough to put in a safe.

But for now, he had to escape some no doubt very angry Beyonders, especially after the state he left their companion back in.

Alvin wanted to escape from the tunnel that led outside, that he and Fred had discovered. That was because while he might be able to ignore the machine blocking the trapdoor to the other exit, the Beyonders would probably know it too, and might have stationed someone there to intercept him. He could take his chances, but the guy who smashed down the door was obviously at least a Sequence 6, whom he suspected to be a Judge as he remembered the had the ability to deliver a powerful strike in a blink of an eye.

If he didn't manage to escape quickly enough, he would probably catch up and easily capture it kill him.

On the other hand, he was basically sure that they never knew of this tunnel's existence. So it was unlikely that they had someone standing guard at the other end. Even if they did, it was quite far away from the interior of the factory, and Alvin could easily slip away before they arrive.

Alvin quickly identified the pile of crates that was directly above the trapdoor. He started pushing aside crates and tossing them all to the side, and finally cleared the area around the trapdoor. He then pushed it open and jumped in.

He looked around, briefly considering shooting the gunpowder and setting off an explosion, in the off chance that he wouldn't be able to get out of the tunnel before the chasing Sequence 6 Beyonder caught up to him.

But he then shook his head as he discarded his thoughts. The air circulation was bad in the tunnel, and while he was sure the gunpowder would explode, he wasn't sure if it would keep on burning. Plus, as he didn't have anything to use as a fuse, he had to light the gunpowder from a close distance. He had a good chance of becoming severely injured by the resulting blast. Alvin decided it would probably be better to just let the gunpowder be as a deterrent for later, when he would surely come back, even if it was just to check out the safe.

He looked around, and Blondie seemed to have vanished. Alvin figured he either took his chances to go out from the exit under the machine, or was hiding somewhere to escape later. Ignoring him, Alvin jumped into the tunnel.

"What the hell happened to those damn Machinery Hiveminds? The fact that they let those guys into the factory may be an accident, but after doors closed and the Sequence 6 Beyonder started ramming the door, even I could have heard it from far away. They claimed to have the most advanced equipment that could detect the slightest vibration from the surroundings, and spot people coming from miles away. Why the hell didn't they come yet?" thought Alvin. He had heard no sounds of fighting that would have taken place if they immediately rushed over, even after the Sequence 6 Beyonder started ramming the door.

Alvin had gotten halfway across the tunnel by this point, and suddenly, he started hearing footsteps.

He looked up in bewilderment to see a ferocious looking man and an equally ferocious looking woman walking down the tunnel, who now paused and were also looking at him in bewilderment.

Alvin cleared his throat, and asked, "Hey. How you doing?"
