Piercing screams, filled with fear and pain, jerked Omar from his sleep. He wasn't even entirely awake before he was rolling out of bed, donning his armor and yanking on his boots. He was moderately awake as he strapped on his weapons and bolted for the door—barely noticing the smoke in time. It spilled in beneath the door and along the sides.

Omar pulled up his masks, shoved his remaining items into his knapsack, yanked on his heavier gloves, and pulled the door open. Thick smoke poured over him. Swearing, he pressed on, going left to check the other rooms. He found a woman, a man, and a child in one room; the others were thankfully empty. He beckoned for them to follow him, taking the woman's hand, ensuring she had hold of the man's, and headed for where he knew the stairs to be.
