Chapter 19: Trying to remember

I woke up to a scalding headache. It felt as if my head has been split into two unequal parts by an axe that was too blunt to be made use of.

I look around my room as I tried to think about how I got to be here, but my memory was hazy.

I felt like a drunk person, but the funniest thing right now is I have no memory of drinking any alcoholic drink yesterday.

Had that happened, I would have been aware of it.

Slowly rising from the bed, I walk towards my cupboard, took some painkilling medicines and swallowed it without making use of water.

It felt bitter to be swallowed that way, but I don't care about it. All I did was slowly walked to the kitchen to get some water to take.

The pounding headache didn't stop even after a nap and another dosage of medicines * I know I'm self-medicating, but I'm not concerned about that right now.*

Should you be in the same situation as I, you wouldn't mind self-medicating. You'll surely do anything in your powers to make sure the headache stopped.

And that's what I did, but the stubborn headache refused to leave. It felt as if the headache had its claws out, is tightly holding on to my head, and had refused to let it go despite any threat I might make use of it.

"You look like shit!" Dozzy commented when we met at the elevator.

"Of course, I should. You really won't understand what I'm passing through right now for headache."

"Why did you come to work then? You should have called the boss and stayed back home, or better yet, go to the hospital to check on your health." He pressed the button for our floor.

" You think the devil's incarnate will allow me to take a day off just for this?" I tsk at him. " It seems you don't know who the boss is."

" Of course I do." He lightly touched my forehead," Should the boss see you in this situation, he'll likely be the one to beg you to leave. You look like real shit."

" Thanks for the compliments, man. It helps with my ego." I said with a roll of my eyes.

" It's not a compliment."

" I'll take it as want." I exit the elevator, and almost stagger to my office.

Presently, it felt as if my forehead has been split into two with an Axe, and the pain is indescribable.

It's unlike any I've ever felt before.

"Osy, you need to go home. You can't work in this condition. You'll likely fall and die." He exaggerated.

" Fall and die, you say?" I scoff at that," It's better I fall and die while working than to be killed by the devil's incarnate for missing a workday."

I entered my office and ran to walk to my chair. I sat on it and placed my head on the table as I effortlessly tried to ease the headache.

Dozzy tried to get me to leave, but I refused to leave this morning and promised to go to the hospital after work to check on my health.

Only then did he let me go.

"Go away!" Groaning, I made a motion for the person who just entered the office to leave.

Currently, I don't have the time, energy, and willpower to have a chat or talk more of the talk.

This headache is unlike any I've ever had a run with all my life. Never had I been a victim of such excruciating pain.

"Dozzy wasn't lying when he said you were at the point of your death."

At the sound of the boss's voice, I hastily raise my face from the table.

"Good morning sir." I greet with my hands still placed on my forehead to prevent it from falling.

I swear, there is absolutely nothing impossible for the headache to do.

The boss didn't reply at first. "Could it be I made use of much pow…."? He trailed off when he saw me looking at him.

"Sir, I don't think I can work today. I don't know what's wrong with me, but it felt as if my head has been split into two unequal parts."

Can you blame me for explaining such a migraine and a headache to my boss?

"It's okay." He walked toward me while I gazed confused.

"What's it?" Despite the headache, I narrow my eyes at him.

"Sleep." He commands, placing his hand on my head, he spoke in a language I'm not aware of.

"What…."

My eyes got drowsy all of a sudden, and I succumbed to the call of the Dreamland agents who were beckoning to me.

I woke up refreshed and feeling rather energetic for someone who had such a head-splitting headache moments ago.

And like when I initially woke up, my mind was foggy.

It seems there are important things I'm missing, but for the life of me, I can't recall any of those things.

I tried to force myself to remember, but it felt as if a brick wall was placed on my memory, and it expertly prevented me from recalling the so-called crucial stuff.

What's it?

I tried once more, and like before, I felt something blocking my thoughts.

Not only am I not able to recall what happened last night, but my guts are telling me something happened this afternoon, but I can't for the life of me recall what it was that happened.

It felt as if my memories either got wiped or blocked.

And that right there is a very plausible explanation, as a person's memory can't be wiped, nor is it possible for it to be blocked.

A knock on my door brought me back to the present.

"Who's that?" I called out to the person.

"Good morning Osy." BB smiled brightly when she came inside.

"Afternoon." I correct, "or aren't you in the same time zone as I?" I scoff at her.
