Chapter 31: Hospital?
Cassandra was walking to and fro in her room.
She could not understand what was happening to her. Nothing seems to work her way.
"Princess ....." Amy stopped in her words as she looked at Cassandra who refused to stop. Amy could tell that her master was suffering internally but she could not help.
"Amy." Cassandra stopped in her tract6s as she looked at Amy with wide eyes. "Can you imagine what he said? He wants to meet me at his mansion. Can you think that he would say something so abrupt?" Cassandra's gaze turned sharp as her breathing increased.
"He knows I cannot leave the palace on my own. Who will give me permission to leave? Emperor or Empress? They would think I have some plans brewing up as someone who had not taken a step out of the Place wants to go out …"
"And on top of that, I have to go to his mansion? How can I do that Amy? How? The Empress will send her guards after me just to make sure that I do not run away. How will I go there even if I get the permission? What if Princess Valeria and Empress knew. An unmarried man and women in the man's mansion alone …. I can see my dead body lying in the palace ground ….." Cassandra walked towards Amy as she held her shoulders with a crying face. "Amy, you have to cry for me when I die. Okay."
Amy shrugged Cassandra's hand as she looked into her eyes trying to console him. "Princess, you are thinking too much. They will not kill you if they see you together with Duke Salvador."
Cassandra felt better when she heard Amy's words. Just before she could give a sigh of relief, Amy's next sentence made her uneasy yet again. "They would torture you till you wish to die or maybe drain your whole blood giving you a slow death. Oh, otherwise Princess Valeria can burn you alive as she …"
"AMY!!" Cassandra shouted in fright. Her eyes widened. "It looks like you are waiting for my death."
"Of Course not Princess. If you die, so will Il." Amy said in a serious tone. "Princess Valeria will think I helped you to go to Duke Salvador's mansion."
Cassandra nodded her head in agreement. Whatever Amy was saying was true. If she dies, so does Amy.
"But Princess, we cannot avoid the Duke's warning as well. What if you don't go there and he comes here to meet you personally in front of everyone."
Cassandra shivered as she walked towards her bed and collapsed, closing her eyes. "I don't know. I don't know anything, anymore ..."
Amy walked towards the Princess as she sat down beside her bed. "Should you sneak out?" Amy's voice was low as she looked at Cassandra who shook her head.
"Amy, I have no power to help anyone of us if we get caught. What will happen to us then would be much worse, But I have to find a way"
Amy's eyes dimmed at Cassandra's words.
[If only I was powerful enough to protect you, Princess.]
[I will get powerful and protect you.]
[Why are such things happening to you?]
[It all started when Duke Salvador returned.]
[The Duke is the main culprit here]
[He keeps on coming into the Princess's life making her anxious.]
[I hate seeing Princess Cassandra so on the toe and I'm worried.]
[What will the first Princess do when she knows that the Princess was the one that danced with the Duke?]
[What if Princess Valeria knows that Duke Salvador wants the Princess to enter his mansion.]
[No, Princess cannot get into more trouble.]
[I have to find a way.]
[It is all Duke Salvador's mistake.]
Cassandra heard Amy's thoughts as a smile bloomed on her face. She was thankful to have a lady-in-waiting like Amy. She had heard all the lady-in-waiting's thoughts to know what they thought about the masters and there was nothing good to recall.
'But what Amy said is true.' Cassandra thought as her eyes turned sharp. 'It is all Duke Salvador's mistake.'
'How should I handle it?'
Cassandra was worried. She could not go out of the palace until she gets a [permission and the Empress would never allow it. Or maybe she will.
'What if the Empress wanted to kill me? It would be a good opportunity to do that outside and blame it on the assassin.'
'But Empress wants to marry me off and not kill me yet.'
"Amy," Cassandra said in a hurry as she sat up on the bed, making her head a little dizzy due to the momentum.
"Princess …" Amy came back from her thoughts as her ears became sharper, ready to stern to her master.
Cassandra shook her head as she looked at Amy. "How do the other lady's from the palace go out?"
"We usually take a token from the administration and go out. We are granted four days leave in a month."
Cassandra nodded as she started thinking
'If Amy has her leaves, I can dress up like her and go out ….' Cassandra looked at Amy as she started comparing herself to her.
'If I take a cloth on my face and go out then no one will notice right?'
"Amy," Cassandra turned towards Amy as she held her hand "You should start wearing a veil soon."
"Huh?"
"Tell something like you have an allergy or rash. Anything will do but make sure you hide your face and everyone knows that."
Amy swallowed as her gaze shivered. "What are you trying to do Princess?"
Cassandra smiled as she came near Amy, whispering in her ears. "You never use your holiday. You can go out to see a doctor then."
Amy's eyes widened as her words trembled. "Prn …. Princess … You …"
"What? I have to go out and you should help me." Cassandra said in a low voice
[But you said if we get caught then we will suffer something worse than death.]
Cassandra agreed to Amy's thoughts as she held Amy's hand. "Amy, don't look at me that way. Think if I fail to meet him then what will the Duke do?"
Amy nodded her head. Duke Salvador's words could not be avoided. "I understand Princess."
Amy never went against Princess Cassandra. She knew that they had only one another to rely on in this palace.
Cassandra smiled as she could see her plan working but her happiness was short-lived.
Soon a guard came in with news. The Empress wanted to meet Cassandra.
