Chapter 52: Sweet Taste [1/2]
Following the event of his defeat against Dulshin, the gym leader of Corsocoast, Max was currently residing in a hotel in the city. Sitting on the bed, Dusk and Max were looking at Bonny, who had just entered the room to share a piece of rather shocking news.
"… What?!" Max asked, looking extremely confused.
{I'm sorry master, I think her recent defeat was the last straw. Like I said, she's… leaving.}
"Leaving? Where?! Like leaving the team?! The city?!"
{I don't know. Last time I saw her she was heading to the entrance of the city.}
Almost instantly, Max set May on the bed as fast as possible, without waking her up, and rushed outside. In a matter of seconds, he was in the streets and running straight where Aurora was heading towards.
{What… What happened?} May asked, rubbing her tired eyes.
{Nothing. Aurora is just causing problems... again.} Bonny replied, clearly agitated.
{Can you… tell us what happened?} Dusk asked shyly.
{Well, I don't really know what happened in her little but thick skull exactly, but I can tell you what she said.}
~40 minutes earlier~
In the isolated section of the park, Bonny and the sawk were in a little clearing where they just finished sparring. In front of the blue combat pokemon, the lopunny was on her knees and panting heavily.
{I… don't really… call that… sparring. More like… a one-way… butt-kicking.} Bonny said between each breath.
{Don't be too harsh on yourself, you almost made me break a sweat, which says quite a lot about your physical capability.} The sawk commented while tightening his belt.
{You… mean it?}
{Yes. Although you're strong, you're a bit impulsive, which causes you to make more mistakes.}
{I see. Unfortunately, I tend to be… a bit too passionate when I do things I like.}
{It's not something to be ashamed of. Passion is the essence of the living. However, we have to be careful not to be controlled by it.}
{I'll try to keep that in mind and work on that.}
{Great. I hope our sparring session helped you, but I'm afraid it will have to end here. My friend is waiting for me right now.}
{That's okay, I needed a break anyway.}
{I bid you farewell, and I hope to see your improvement in the future.} The sawk wished before leaning his head forward in goodbye and left the park.
{Damn, looks like no matter how much I train, there will always be someone better than me.} Bonny lowly complained when he was out of sight.
{No no.} She added, shaking her head. {I must not think like that. If I keep training, surely I'll be the strongest. After that, master will have eyes only for me. Hoouuuu, I can't wait for that to happen.}
After daydreaming about her fantasy, Bonny noticed the sky getting darker, meaning that it was getting late.
(I hope master is feeling better now.) Thought Bonny. She was lost in her thoughts until she bumped into somebody while walking out of the park.
{Still can't see where you're going I see.}
Raising her head, Bonny was quite displeased to see that from all of the pokemon in this city, she bumped into the only one she didn't want to see: Aurora.
{And still considerate about no one but yourself I see.} Bonny spat with an annoyed face.
*Hmpf* {Lucky for you and the team, you won't have to deal with that anymore.} Aurora retorted before resuming her walk.
{Why? Have you decided to become nice all of a sudden?} Bonny demanded.
{Better than that, I'm ditching the team.}
{...You're what?} Bonny inquired, not sure if she heard her correctly.
{I'm leaving!} Aurora yelled while still walking towards the edge of the city.
{What do you mean 'you're leaving'?}
{Exactly what it means.}
{… Well, shit.} She mumbled. (Better go warn master about this.) She continued before starting to run towards the hotel. {He is the only one that can smack some sense into her, or at least make her talk about why she's acting like a spoiled little prick all of a sudden.}
Around half an hour later, she was back at the hotel.
{Master… I think we may have a problem!} She exclaimed after bursting through the door.
~Present
{That's… terrible. Master must be worried sick right now.} Dusk commented.
{Surely. I'm surprised that she didn't decide to leave sooner.}
{Why do you say that?}
{Well…}
At this moment, Scarlet appeared in the room.
{If you're looking for master, he's-} Bonny started.
{Gone, I know.}
{Why are you here then?}
{Can't I be wherever I want anymore?} Scarlet replied a bit rudely, clearly not liking how Bonny spoke to her.
{… Sorry.} Bonny apologized, recognizing her rudeness. {I'm just a bit on the edge right now.}
{Apology accepted.} Scarlet forgave her with a slightly amused tone before sitting next to Bonny.
{I meant to say why are you here instead of being with him. Surely you felt his emotions.}
{I did and I still do. The thing is, the moment I felt him and tried to locate him, he was already outside. Since I don't want to show myself more than necessary, I first wanted to see if he was being pursued by someone or something and see if I can help him from afar. {Maybe not, but please don't try to convince us that she's your friend.}

{Look, there is no need to get on everyone's throat right now. Master is probably after her to bring her back. But if he fails, it won't matter anymore.} Bonny told.
Instantly, Scarlet had a thoughtful expression.
{Hmm, if you ask me, I don't think things are as bad as it seems.}

{And if I win and master convinces her to stay, you're gonna leave him to me for two weeks and you're gonna be my servant for a whole week.} Scarlet added, grinning.
{Your servant? Are you kidding me?!} Bonny exclaimed, a bit outraged.
{What do you have to fear if you're certain of your words?}
{Hmpf. I suppose that's true… Okay, we have a deal.} Bonny concluded before shaking Scarlet's hand. {So what now? We wait for him?}
{For them you mean.} Scarlet corrected, making Bonny roll her eyes. {We can indeed do that, or… we can go see the outcome ourselves.}
{See it ourselves? Are you seriously suggesting we spy on him?} Bonny replied, almost scolding her.
{No, of course not. If you're right, I think we should just check on him so that things aren't going badly.} Scarlet justified herself, with a semi-sarcastic innocent tone.
{… Sure you do.} The lopunny answered back, looking at her funnily.
{If you don't want to come, I would understand. After all, you respect master and all, but who knows, maybe I could lie about what really happened.}
{Hrrgh. Alright, fine. I'm coming, but only because I want to keep an eye on you.} Bonny conceded.
{Whatever floats your boat. What about you girls?} Scarlet asked to May and Dusk.
{I don't really care honestly.} May answered, lying her back against one of the bed pillows.
{Harsh.} Scarlet retorted with a small smile.
{It isn't… really our business.} Dusk followed.
{Alright, looks like it's just the two of us then, pretty bunny.} Scarlet teased while presenting one of her hands to the brown pokemon.
Rolling her eyes with a sigh, Bonny grabbed her hand and teleported away with her a second later, ending up off a road outside the city.
{Where did you take us?} Bonny asked, looking around.
{Outside the city.} Scarlet responded before pointing at Corsocoast not very far from them.
{And why exactly?}
{Since Aurora is now outside and master is running after her at a certain speed, my calculations lead me to think that they will probably meet up around here.}
{What if you're wrong?}
{We're just gonna teleport closer to them. Come on, Bonny, I'm a psychic pokemon, you should know better.}
{Yeah, strange.} Bonny talked back, crossing her arms.
{Oh, here she comes.} Scarlet quickly said, pulling Bonny behind two trees before noticing the jackal pokemon in the distance.
{Seriously Scarlet, you're way too enthusiastic when it comes to being nosy.}
{Shh, she's getting closer.}
With a low sigh, Bonny stood silent and watched as Aurora was getting closer and closer. After a few minutes, Scarlet spotted Max running behind.
(There he is.) Scarlet announced telepathically.
(No shit, sherlock.)
(Heard ya.) Scarlet pointed out, not even caring.
With a small 'tsk', both of them stared in silence and waited for the moment Scarlet anticipated.
"Aurora! Stop!"
Like Scarlet guessed, Aurora stopped in her track right in front of the two hidden pokemon. Obviously, Scarlet couldn't help but to show a triumphant smirk to Bonny, at which the lopunny responded with another roll of her eyes and an annoyed expression. Not far behind, Max stopped and bent in half to rest his hands on his thighs, panting heavily. Before speaking, the jackal pokemon took a long and deep breath.
{What are you doing here?} Aurora asked in a very serious tone.
"I'm… here… to… ask… Damn. Just… wait for a second… till I recover some of… my breath." Max wheezed.
With a discouraged sigh, Aurora turned around and crossed her arms.
{… Are you done yet?} Aurora asked impatiently.
"Almost… just… Phew! And here I thought… I was getting… in shape."
{You're just a human after all.}
"Well… you're not wrong."
Max kept on taking deep breaths until his breathing was partially back to normal.
"Alright… I should be okay now." Max assured her before taking a few more deep breaths.
{Honestly, there was absolutely no need for you to put yourself in such trouble.}
"That's where you're wrong. All of my girls are worth the trouble."
{I guess the information didn't get into your head clearly. I'm not your girl anymore. I never was actually.}
"I suppose since I never got the chance to 'tame' you," Max said playfully.
{If by tame you mean-}
"No, not that way and you know it. By that, I meant to say befriend you. Well, for a while I thought we were friends."
{Yeah, well, you were wrong.} Aurora affirmed, before turning her back to Max.
From the distance, Scarlet could see Aurora tightening her crossed arms around herself.
"… Maybe, but I still believe that we can be friends one day."
{Are you really that stupid!?} Aurora bawled before abruptly turning around again with an angry face.
"Hemm-"
{Don't you get it?! I have nothing to do with you! I have nothing to do with this stupid team and I have nothing to do with this damned world!}
"Wha-"
{Just shut that stupid mouth of yours for a second and listen. I don't know what you expected from me, but you were obviously wrong. You thought what exactly? That if you took me by force from where I could be at peace, I could have a better chance? That every problem would disappear by magic and that I'll be happy for the rest of my life?!}
"…"
{No, of course not. You, humans, are all the same; you want us for our powers, that's it. None of you love us for what we truly are, only for what we can do. So, when a pokemon can't do anything, they're worthless, and… unloved.} Aurora bemoaned before turning her back once more. {Especially me.} Aurora growled lowly, thinking that Max wouldn't hear it.
"… Wrong again. Honestly, I don't know about what you can do or not, but you surely are wrong quite often."
Seeing that Aurora was not moving and sensing that she wasn't only feeling anger, Max knew that now wasn't the time to goof around.
"Aurora, I said you were wrong because I really do like you."
{After the multiple defeats you got because of me, I really doubt it.}
"I don't mind a loss or two, Aurora."
{You're lying. I may not be like your gardevoir, but I could feel the pain and anger you felt from that defeat.}
*sigh* "It's true. I don't like to lose, but I will never make my team responsible for that. The only one at fault is me. I should have prepared more strategies, I-"
{Enough with your bullshit. It's no use, you may do whatever strategies you want, in the end, it's useless with… worthless pokemon… like me.} Aurora replied before tears began to escape her eyes. {No one loves me and no one ever will.}
As tears were running across her cheeks, Aurora was taken by surprise when she felt arms around her. She realized that Max was hugging her from behind.
"Wrong again, Aurora, I do love you."
{It's… not true.} The blue pokemon bemoaned while oddly tightening her arms around his.
"Yes, it is. I know you may be scared Aurora, but you don't have to be. I won't abandon you."
{Liar! You will when you grow tired of me.} Aurora replied, bursting into tears.
"Trust me, you're more likely to grow tired of me than the opposite."
{NO! I won't!} She fervently protested.
At that moment, Scarlet and Bonny looked at each other in anticipation and wondered if this was the moment.
"Why… won't you?" Max asked, a bit confused.
The only answer he received however was low sobbing noises. Max then forced her to turn around. Since he was now on his knees, they were now roughly face-to-face.
"Why won't you grow tired of me, Aurora?" Max asked again while wiping tears off of her furry cheeks.
{… Because…}
While trying to speak, she could barely look into Max's eyes.
{Because I…}
Again, Aurora couldn't express what she wanted to say as if an unknown force was preventing her to do so.
"Tell me, please Aurora."
{… Why should I?} Aurora gave up, turning her head away. {You probably don't care.}
"Why on earth wouldn't I care about a crying girl's demand?!"
Upon hearing his words, Aurora winced a bit, but not in pain. On the contrary, she felt her heart tightening a little.
{… There is no way I'll ever grow tired of you.} Aurora started, not even looking at Max in the eyes.
"Really? To be honest, that's not really what you've shown me so far."
{… It's because… I didn't want you to know.}
"Know what? Come on Aurora, you can trust me with what you want to say."
Under her tears, the blue pokemon tried to muffle a small growl.
{Can't you see it? The reason why I won't grow tired of you is because I… BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!}
Suddenly, everything went silent besides Aurora's sobs.
"… You… love me?" Max stammered, quite astonished.
{How could I not? Even if I'm being a bitch to you, even if I hit you or just ignore you, you're still there for me, staying with me, even when I make the team lose.}
"Well… I kind of knew that you only had trouble with relationships, so I wanted to help you with that as much as I could, no matter the time it would have taken."
{See? That's exactly what I'm talking about. No one wants to be with me at my best; and then there's you, who stays with me at my worst.}
"I've seen worse, so no big deal."
{Anyway...} She started, moving away from Max's grip. {None of this matters since it's not reciprocal. If you ever appreciated me a little, it's probably not the case anymore after today.} She finished, turning her back.
"And who decided that?"
{Me.} She growled slightly.
"Well, you're wrong yet again. I do love you Aurora."
{No you don't.}
"Yes, I do."
{Then prove it!} She bawled loudly, facing Max with raging eyes.
For a few seconds, Max stared at her.
"… Alright."
Raising his hands, Max put them on Aurora's shoulders and pulled her towards him. The blue jackal only had time to let out a very faint yelp before Max's lips touched hers. Instantly, she felt paralyzed with a shocking feeling running across her entire body. A little voice in her mind told her to protest and push him away, but she didn't want to. Why should she? Before she could decide what to do, Max broke the kiss to look at her.
"Is that proof enough?" Asked Max with a reassuring smile.
{… I… I…} Aurora stammered, one paw slightly over her lips.
"… Was it that bad?"
Unable to say anything, Aurora only stared at him blankly. Quickly, her attention was switching between his eyes and lips. She didn't know what was going on, but an urge to do that again took over her. She wanted to kiss him again, but the unknown was stopping her again. However, she was feeling that its influence was getting weaker. She had a choice she could make now; giving in and risking another painful moment that could destroy her, or stopping here and stay miserable for the rest of her life. Patiently, Max was looking at her and waiting for an answer or reaction. Looking at his eyes and lips, her breathing began to go faster as well as her heartbeat. She was now staring at his lips, feeling the urge crushing her, but so does her fear. Do it? Not do it? Then, as the time seems to have stopped, she closes her eyes and decided to risk it.
{… Fuck it.}
With shaky paws, she grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him into a slightly aggressive kiss.
{Yes!} Scarlet exclaimed very lowly, doing a fist pump.
{About time, honestly.} Bonny whispered.
Dumbfounded, Max's heart was now the one that was going faster, almost in sync with hers. The emotions were strong enough to prevent Aurora to move a muscle. After a while, Max was the one to make a move and gently pushed her away.
"Was it… your first kiss ever?"
{… Yes.} Aurora answered, blushing a bit while shyly looking away.
"Feeling okay?"
{Well… my heart feels like it's about to explode, my head is very light and my stomach feels weird but other than that, I'm fine I suppose.}
"Did you feel the love I have for you?" Max asked with a small grin.
{D-don't get cocky, okay. It was only a kiss, but… yeah, a little. I wouldn't mind… doing it again.} She expressed with her ears drooping due to her extreme shyness.
"Now, or later?"
{Y-You decide.} She told him, paws behind her back. She was moving her legs and hips like a teen madly in love and had a smile that almost threw Max on the ground due to how hard the cuteness hit him.
That smile. The smile Max was longing to see. An intense prideful feeling overwhelmed him. He finally broke her unbreakable shell.
"You have the prettiest smile ever." Max praised.
{C-Come on, don't exaggerate.}
"I'm really happy to see it."
{It's no big deal. I'm still waiting for the kiss you know.}
"Hehe, alright." Max conceded before kissing her again.
(Well, I guess there's nothing more to see.) Bonny thought.
(Not sure about that, look.)
Looking back, Bonny saw one of Max's hands rubbing her side, slowly going down.
(You pervy master.) Scarlet commented with a small smile.
Feeling it, Aurora however stopped his hand when it was around her belly.
{What the hell do you think you're doing?} Aurora demanded.
"Oh, s-sorry Aurora. Force of habit." Max apologized with a sheepish laugh.
{Tsk, it's okay, a force of habit myself. I… I'm sorry, but I think I'm not ready for more yet. I still have to assimilate everything that has happened so far.}
"Of course, I understand. Again, I'm sorry for wanting to take it to the next level too soon."
{Rhaa! That sucks.} Scarlet complained.
{Honestly, works for me. Not sure I wanted to see that anyway.} Bonny disagreed.
{Didn't want to see master naked?}
{No. I don't want to see her getting screwed by him. Like I said, nothing more to see.} Bonny explained before starting to leave the area without being seen.
{I believe there won't be reasons for her to be a bitch from now on, so why so grumpy?} Scarlet asked, following her.
{She still has to make up for everything she did or said to all of us. She will have to prove herself to us before I start to like her again. Shall we?} Bonny said, presenting one paw when far enough from the newly formed couple.
Rolling her eyes, Scarlet took her paw and teleported them back to the hotel.
{Honestly, I haven't seen master that happy for a while now. You know I don't care much about others besides our master, but if calming her down can make our days less annoying, then I'm in for it.}
{… I suppose.} Bonny conceded, sitting on the bed.
{So… something happened?} Dusk asked.
{You could say that.} Scarlet responded, sitting on the bed as well.
"So, Aurora, you still want to leave the team?" Max asked, now standing with crossed arms.
{… I don't know. How can I be sure that you won't abandon me too? I've suffered so much from last time, I don't think I'll survive another heartbreak.}
"I promise you with my heart and soul that I won't, Aurora. No matter what, I'll always stand by your side so we can make it through anything together, so you don't have to be afraid. Only death itself could tear us apart."
{You make it sound like some wedding vows.} Aurora pointed out with a funny expression.
"Hehe, a little, I agree. But my words aren't any less meaningful."
For a moment, Aurora was switching between looking at Max and around in a very struggling way.
"I really like you Aurora, a lot even. Under your shell, I know you have great values and potential. I really wish that you'd stick around with us."
{You like me more than the others?}
"I love all of you equally and each one of you contributes to making my days less gloomy. If only one of you were to be missing, things wouldn't be the same and it would make me sad. You know what they say; the more we are, the crazier things are."
{You… really mean it?}
"Of course I do."
{Like, really really?}
"Yes," Max confirmed again before Aurora went thoughtful for a moment.
{Well… since I got used to your annoying personality, the days would indeed be hella boring without you.}
"Indeed. So... Are you willing to give me a chance?"
{Well…} The fighting-type pokemon started, rubbing the back of her neck a bit shyly. {If I were to leave you… I won't have kisses anymore, right?}
"I guess not."
{That would be a shame then.} Aurora replied with a small smile.
"Indeed it would be."
{I… Maybe I'll stay a little bit longer then. But I'm warning you, if you ever plan on ditching me or anything, I promise that I'll become your worst nightmare.}
"Understood."
{Then it's a sealed deal.} The jackal pokemon replied before going for a hug, to Max's surprise.
She quickly realized what she had done and moved away awkwardly.
{You… have seen nothing, got it?} She ordered with a heavy blush.
"Got it. So, are you willing to work with us from now on?"
Looking at the ground a bit in shame, Aurora sighed a little.
{I can try. I always had a hard time following orders and such. The only one I used to obey and trust was myself; more specifically in combat.}
"It's not about following orders or doing the other one's bidding, but fighting together as one."
{… Like I said, I'll try, but I can't promise anything.}
"Alright, that'll do for now. Want to head back now?"
{Okay.}
With that, Max turned around to head back to the city.
{Can we…?}
Stopping, Max turned his head.
"Yes?"
{I know it may sound weird, but… can we…} Aurora started with difficulty, lightly tapping her paws together. {H-Hold hands?}
"Hold hands? For the entire way back?"
{Yeah, it was dumb for me to even ask something like that.} Aurora conceded, looking slightly disappointed.
"No, not really. It's just… Eh, if I were to be told that you would ask me that favor in particular, I would probably have found it crazy."
{I won't beg, so if you don't want my paw, I'll just keep it to myself.} Aurora said a bit aggressively like her usual self.
"Alright, alright." Max calmed her down while presenting her one of his hands. "No need to be that defensive."
{I'm not.} She protested before taking his hand with hesitation.
With Max laughing and Aurora growling in annoyance, they both walked back to Corsocoast. A little while later, they were back inside the city and Aurora released Max's hand. Since she just had given in to her sentiments, Max understood fully that she was probably still uncomfortable with being seen showing affectionate display, probably even more by the other team members. After more walking, they were back to the hotel, but Aurora stopped in front of the building.
"What's the matter?" Max asked.
{… I'm not sure I want to go back there…, yet. After what I said, they probably don't consider me a member of the team anymore.}
"Of course they do. They knew that I would have brought you back, so I'm sure they're waiting for us right now."
{I'm not sure about Bonny.}
"You shouldn't care about what she thinks. If I decide that you belong to the team, then nobody else has a word to say about it."
Still unsure, Aurora looked at the ground with a paw on one shoulder.
"Come on, everything will be alright, I assure you."
{… Maybe but… *tsk* If you don't mind, I would like to be alone for a moment. I'll come back when I feel ready.}
"… Alright, do what you need to do. You're welcome to come back anytime you want."
{Thanks.}
With a nod, Max went in without her as she went for a walk through the city. When he went inside his room, he noticed Scarlet wasn't there. Just Bonny, Dusk, and May were in the room and they were watching the TV. Dusk and May were in the bed and Bonny was lazily lying on the small couch.
{Welcome back, master.} Bonny greeted, looking at him from the couch.
"Hi girls."
Despite being happy to see all of them, Max found Bonny's laidback behavior a bit odd. Thinking that everyone can be tired once in a while, even his energetic lopunny, he decided not to have any second thoughts about it.
{So, how did it go?} Bonny asked with the most nonchalant tone she could produce.
"What? Aurora and I?"
{Who else?} Bonny jested a little.
"Well, I managed to convince her to stay, so I think it went okay."
{Really?! How did you do that?} She inquired while looking at Max with a very faint grin.
"Well, I told her how she was important for the team and that she couldn't go on like this forever."
{That's it? No seduction or any 'physical' persuasion?}
"I know you like juicy stories, but I'm afraid not Bonny. She's not like that you know." Max lied, getting slightly suspicious.
Sitting on the bed, both Dusk and May barely managed to contain their laughs, knowing the complete truth.
{Shame then. Looks like it won't be today that we'll know the face she makes when screwed from behind.}
{Just give them some time, Bonny.} Scarlet said while taking Max by surprise with a back hug after teleporting behind him.
"Umm, why would you even want to know that anyway?" Max asked, rubbing his beloved gardevoir's arms.
{Just for the thrill of knowing, of course.}
"Uh-huh." Max retorted, skeptical.
*sigh* {… And maybe have something to tease her with too.}
"Aha, I knew it. Just go easy on her, okay?"
{Sure thing, I'll stop right before she goes nuts.}
"Bonny." Max scolded, glaring at her with big, menacing eyes.
{Fine.} She conceded. {I was just kidding.}
"Sure you are." Max retorted, not really believing her.
{Come on, if she can't take a little tease, she's gonna find the journey long and rough.}
"That's why I asked you to go easy on her. Just give her the time to get accustomed to you and the others."
{Ah, so something did happen.} Bonny exclaimed, looking at Max with an accusing expression.
"What? No. She just…"
{Just what?} Scarlet asked half sensually on his ears.
"... Gha, fine." Max gave up, knowing that he just sold himself out. "She may have opened up a bit, but nothing extraordinary happened."
{My my, why so defensive master?} The red gardevoir demanded, slightly grinning.
"I'm not."
{Looks like someone is trying to hide something from us.} Bonny accused with a grin.
"Yeah, but no."
