Chapter 19: Morning
"Xavier... you both seem to have been through a lot in life. But you should stay and give this a chance, she could be the one that you have been waiting on. Do not easily let go of any happiness you may have so easily." Cass wanted his friend to take a chance, he had seen him live in solace and become almost a hermit over the years, he want him to live and not just go on existing.
Continuing Cass advised Xavier, "She seems a little bit guarded due to life experiences but you know the most beautiful part of loving a guarded girl is this… when she lets you in, it's not because she needs you. She stopped needing others a long time ago. It's because she wants you, and that is the purest love of all." Cass then waited just staring at Xavier waiting for him to respond, just hoping that his encouragement had got to him.
Xavier nodded, he knew himself that now he had found her there was no going back, she was it and he wouldn't be able to stay silent this time, he would tell her exactly how he felt when the time was right. It was hard to hold back though when being in her presence, but she needed time and he of course would bare the pain of holding back for now.
He wanted to work on himself, as a greater demon, he never knew if he was allowed to be with someone as pure as she is, she was the light to his darkness , "She deserves better, but I can't see her with anyone else... So I will become better." He vowed to himself and to Cass.
Cass beamed at his friend, "Good good, though those pieces of you that you think are broken or you need to work on are someone else's missing pieces, she may love those broken pieces more than you think."
Cass then remembered about his lovely wife's breakfast and started to plate it up, as he did he asked Xavier a question, "Would you want her to hold back her feelings for you just because she believes that she is too broken for you to love her in return?"
Cass noticed the fierce look in Xavier's eyes and knew the answer smiling to himself.
"I love her as she is, doing her thing; I would never want to control her fire; All I need is to be near it, to feel it," Xavier stated before taking another sip of coffee. The thought that others may see her as broken angered Xavier. But he knew his friend meant no harm.
Meanwhile, upstairs in her bedroom Selena rolled over in her bed and smiled as she stretched her arms out feeling refreshed and relaxed. She had the best nights sleep, she hadn't slept all through the night in as long as she could remember.
She yawned and reached out, the bedsheets were still slightly warm but Rai was gone, she thought that he must have just left so she sat up and checked the time on her phone.
Seeing the time on her phone she realised that she had slept in, after noticing the time she bounced up and walked into her bathroom, she did her morning skincare routine and took a quick shower. Once she was out of the shower she dried her body and hair before applying some light makeup and wrapping herself in a fluffy white robe.
Still, in her robe she walked to her stack of clothes that she had laid out, it was Sunday so she couldn't search for a job but maybe she could go shopping and grab a few essentials from the nearest shopping centre.
Thinking that she grabbed a black pair of skinny jeans and an old band T- shirt. She threw them on and then put on a pair of black leather converse, she felt more comfortable in these clothes on her days off. She left her messy curls down and bounced down her back as she walked.
Happy with her outfit she made her bed before leaving her room to find Cass and Oriana.
In the hallway, she ran straight into Oriana who was just leaving her bedroom in her robe and pyjamas, "Good morning Oriana." She beamed.
"Morning Dear! You seem happy, did you sleep well?" Oriana asked as they both descended the stairs, she noticed a slight change in Selena's smile, it seemed brighter.
"I slept better than I have in years, I didn't even wake up. It must be being here has put me at ease," Selena added smiling at Oriana.
Living at the orphanage and with her ex made her constantly live in survival mode which made her a very light sleeper so she would often wake through the night.
Oriana nodded, as she came down the stairs noticing her silly husband and Xavier standing together in the kitchen. She thought for a moment before smiling.
"Xavier, you stayed the night?" She surmised that he must have snuck in to be with Selena and that was why she felt safe enough to sleep through the night.
Only when one feels loved and safe can one peacefully sleep through the night.
Xavier's silver eyes glinted as he stared into Selena's emerald eyes, "Morning." He said, not breaking eye contact.
His words though gave Selena some internal butterflies and she didn't know why, she smiled shyly and said, "Morning Xavier."
Hearing her say his name again he was elated.
Oriana could see a metaphorical tail waging behind Xavier, he looked so happy underneath his usual stoic personality, she had never seen him like this before, like puppy love, genuine and innocent.
Sensing the tension and glancing at her grinning husband Oriana asked Selena, "Can we get you some breakfast?"
Selena broke eye contact with Xavier, shaking her head that was full of thoughts of him and glanced at Cass, he had a tray sitting on the kitchen counter with enough food for himself and Oriana. She didn't want to interrupt their routine so she shook her head again.
"You know... I am not really a breakfast kind of girl, I was planning on going straight out to the shops for some essentials today." Selena grabbed her jacket from the hook by the front door.
Cass pouted, he wanted to help and push the two youngsters together.
Oriana saw her husbands pout and she giggled internally. She thought for a moment and saw Selena was about to leave so she asked, "I need a few items, can you grab them for me please?"
Selena nodded at Oriana, "Sure, give me a list."
Oriana went to the kitchen and grabbed a pad she quickly wrote down a few items and handed the list to Selena.
As she did she looked to Xavier, "They are awfully heavy, Xavier can you go with Selena and help her?"
