Chapter 30: Shock Therapy

🅸🆂🅰🅱🅴🅻🅻🅰

"So what about your family? You've never mentioned them before."

I take a sip from my whiskey cola as Judy raises her eyebrows.

"Well, there isn't anything interesting to tell you. They actually don't live far away, my dad was a soldier and my mom works at a preschool but they divorced a long time ago. My mom has a new boyfriend, we get along well. They are going to marry next spring."

She lazily moves her head to the rhythm of the tropical music, the orange and blue fairy lights in the background dance along.

"Oh, that's nice for her."

"Yeah, it is. I have a younger brother, he just finished highschool and…God, I don't know what to tell you, my family is boring." She sips on her drink and shrugs her shoulders. Then she pulls her face together.

"This shit is strong. I should tone it down or I won't be able to fornicate."

I laugh. "Is my pseudo eloquence rubbing off on you?"

Judy looks at me, dark eyes under darker lashes and grins. "That's not the only thing you are teaching me."

She takes my hand that is lying on the bar counter and winks. I mouth a 'you're drunk' and playfully pull Judy's glass towards me but she quickly grabs it back.

"I'm drunk on you and your cougar couture."

"Excuse me?" I look down at myself. Latex is always a risk but although the dress sits tight, it is far from looking cheap.

"Did you just call me a cougar?"

"Yes? Isn't that what you are?"

My mouth drops open.

"I'm actually offended right now. In what world am I a cougar? They are desperate wannabes who love botox and leopard print and go on a hunt for younger lovers to fill up their ego. Everything I do is effortless and natural and I have got enough confidence to not rely on a young guy to distract me from the fact that I'm aging."

I take a deep breath.

"And I would never wear leopard print!"

Somewhere during my monologue Judy has started giggling and she can hardly keep herself upright. I stare at her in disbelief.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were this sensitive."

"Honey, I'm not sensitive, just stating facts. You can call me many things but a cougar I am not."

I flick my hair and take a big sip while side-eyeing her. What nerves.

"I'm sorry, mama. I shall never do that again."

She puts her hand on my thigh but then quickly lets go again.

"What?"

Judy looks away, biting her lower lip. "Don't turn around but there's some creeps staring at us."

"Oh, too bad for them. We are already on a date."

I wink but Judy is too focused on her embarrassment.

"I just hate it so much when someone stares at me, I wish I wouldn't care."

"Then don't."

She rolls her eyes. "It's not that easy."

"How about some shock therapy?"

"What?"

I grab her waist and before Judy can defend herself, I pull her into a kiss.

She tenses up, obviously uncomfortable by being put into the spotlight but I make the kiss extra sweet so that she has no choice but to respond.

And so she does. A warm breeze flushes through my stomach and my heart flatters.

God Isa, get a hold of yourself.

After a few seconds I pull back again and look into Judy's puzzled face.

"Wait." I grab a napkin and start cleaning up the edges of her mouths.

"You should start wearing stainless lipsticks. They are more expensive but definitely worth the money. Especially when you're out with someone like me."

I'm done but Judy grabs my hand to keep it near her face a little longer and just smiles.

I wiggle my eyebrows. "And, are they still staring?"

"I don't care."

I grin. "So I guess it worked." Then I turn around to the bartender. "Give us some shots."
