I've been good at keeping secrets. Secrets that would make or break friendships and families. As I looked at Fran in our hike back towards the refugee village, there was his pang of guilt and sadness inside of me that I wanted to unload from my chest. 

How would you tell your friend that the man she loved was causing chaos in the whole world. Xedjedy was made to be the Immortal Emperor. His immortal gene had made the vampiric infection causing the human population to dwindle to the brink of extinction. Should I tell Fran that if she dies she'll have the same fate as him?

I was afraid. Afraid that if Fran would ever die, the immortal gene buried in her DNA would activate. I was afraid of the knowledge that would happen, if I failed to keep Fran safe. If Fran knew that Xed had been the one who caused Vampires to rise, would she go berserk and go on a killing spree herself?
