Flynn held my face in his hand, and I leaned into it and inhaled a shaky breath. "Thank you," I whispered.

"For?" he asked softly as his eyes searched my face.

"Being here. For taking such good care of me. I don't know what I'd have done without you. I'm sorry I was such a - "

"Shh," he said, stopping me with his thumb on my lips. "It's the least I could do."

When his hand stayed on my face and his thumb strummed over my cheek, something shifted between us and the compassion I'd seen in his eyes changed to want.

"God, Valerie. What you do to me," he said, his voice thick and husky with lust.

"What is it I do?" I stared confused, my imprint of his mouth on mine still fresh in my mind.

"You make me want what I have no business wanting," he ground out.

"Meaning?" A pause fell between us and our gaze felt loaded with unspoken words I couldn't decipher.

"It doesn't matter," he snapped when he eventually shook his head and crooked his neck. His shoulders looked tight with tension.
