We had just arrived at the place that we were to be waiting until the tournament officially started. Almost the exact moment, I heard someone that I didn't know calling out to someone that I knew very well.

"Makai!" The voice sounded almost shocked, like they weren't sure they were seeing this person. "Makai!" It was almost like my boyfriend just didn't notice that someone was calling his name over and over again. "Makai!"

Finally, after three times, the voice seemed to have penetrated the obliviousness that Makai had wrapped around himself for some reason. I don't know what had him so distracted right now, but he just didn't seem to notice this person at first. When he did, though, he spun around and started looking for who was calling for him.
