Roman wasn't angry about what he was hearing. It wasn't Penny's fault that she was suffering from a broken heart caused by some jerk with his name that happened to get to her first. 

He should have realized she was going through something like that when she kept pulling away from him. It all made sense. But was there anything he could do about it now that he knew the truth? 

She was like a shooting star lighting up his boring and repetitive life. Could he really afford to let her go even if she was in love with someone else?
