Chapter 21: Ch. 21: Actually, I Am…
Chen Fan put his cup on the saucer and then gave Tang Hongyu a solemn look.
When Tang Hongyu saw Chen Fan's look, she couldn't help feeling nervous but still faced him and waited for his words tensely.
She felt like a turning point in her life was going to happen. Her intuition as a woman told her so.
"Let me tell you something that will subvert your understanding about the world we're currently living in. You see, under the illusion of peace and order the government desperately maintains, there is a hidden world with one absolute truth… Might make right! This hidden world is the world of Martial Artists and Dao Cultivators…"
And so, Chen Fan gave a brief explanation about the hidden world under the peaceful everyday lives in the modern era.
Sure enough, this subverted Tang Hongyu's belief and understanding of the world. Although Chen Fan's explanation sounded over the top, he was strangely persuasive.
Perhaps, it was because of the unbelievable events that happened to her since she heard him telling his new relationship with the Wei Family over the phone.
A while later…
Tang Hongyu massaged her head. She felt a headache as she pondered the information that she'd just heard. 'A hidden world of Martial Artists and Dao Cultivators, huh? People can cultivate internal energy or the vitality of the universe to become stronger and live longer, eh? These people won't get hurt by blades and guns and even missiles, right? What's this? Is this world a Wuxia or Xianxia story? No way this is true! This is reality, not a fantasy!'
Tang Hongyu finally stopped nursing her headache and looked up to face Chen Fan. He'd been giving her a space to digest everything in peace.
Even so, it was too unbelievable for Tang Hongyu. She had a hard time believing in it. She was just an ordinary person with an ordinary point of view.
She would easily believe that Chen Fan's change was because of the plastic surgery and the Wei Family was lending this villa to him to repay a favor… However, many things made sense despite how outrageous it was.
Unbeknownst to her, Chen Fan had been monitoring her thoughts. He wasn't disappointed when Tang Hongyu wasn't convinced yet. He had more tricks to convince her, after all.
"So, are you a martial artist or a cultivator? Since when you're one? Did you hide this matter from your parents? I would know it if you told your parents because my relationship with Sister Xiaoyun is good! So, you must have been hiding this from your parents, right?" Tang Hongyu demanded an explanation.
"Well, concerning whether I'm a martial artist or a cultivator, I'm the latter," he answered confidently, but then he feigned uncertainty as he continued, "About when I became one? I suppose it's two days ago?"
"What's with that uncertainty in your tone? Why did you make it sound like a question?" Her limit of tolerance already breaking the threshold, Tang Hongyu couldn't help retorting strongly.
"Well, you see, Auntie, when I was on the way to Chuzhou, I was sleeping in the bus. It was when I regained the memories and knowledge of my old life," Chen Fan pretended to be embarrassed as he replied.
"Huh?!" Tang Hongyu gaped in disbelief.
Chen Fan couldn't help having fun screwing with Tang Hongyu's mind. Does this mean he's a bad man? Is he a sadist? Well, he never denied being a bad man, and he didn't know if he was a sadist or not, so this is new and exciting!
Anyway, Chen Fan continued talking, "Apparently, I am a reincarnation of a Celestial Emperor…"
Listening to the unbelievable statement coming out of Chen Fan's mouth that he stated with a straight face, Tang Hongyu was done with this bullshit.
She stood up and slammed the table.
"What the hell, Fan?! Do you think your Auntie is an idiot?! Do you fancy yourself as the main character in a wuxia drama?! What kind of bullshit is this?!"
In response to Tang Hongyu's explosive reaction, Chen Fan only raised his eyebrows. He'd be lying if he said that he wasn't entertained by her over-the-top reactions, but he kept his opinion to himself and waited for her to calm down.
'Still, you're wrong about something, honey. This is Xianxia. Not wuxia. After all, Wuxia is old school.'
Soon enough, Tang Hongyu managed to regain her composure. She looked at Chen Fan with a look that demanded an explanation…a real explanation, and not the bullshit that he'd fed her.
Until this moment, Tang Hongyu still thought that Chen Fan was pulling her legs.
In truth, Chen was indeed pulling her legs. However, he would never admit it. He wouldn't stop pretending because of a glare.
He wasn't a child.
He thought that it was time to bring his plan to the next stage. "I can see that Auntie doesn't believe in my words. Therefore, I will show you pieces of evidence. I will show you my Immortal Body and bring you somewhere that will make you believe it!"
Tang Hongyu looked at Chen Fan in exasperation and thought, 'This boy… is he still insisting on the bullshit that he fed me?'
However, the next moment, Chen Fan showed his real appearance.
Sure enough, Tang Hongyu was struck dumb. Chen Fan's real appearance was unbelievably handsome. She couldn't help getting charmed by it.
As Tang Hongyu stood there in a daze with a red face, Chen Fan wasn't done yet. He waved his left hand, and then a flash of bright white light blinded Tang Hongyu's sight, after which their surroundings changed.
The sudden change of their surroundings surprised Tang Hongyu so much that she snapped out of her charmed state. She looked around her absentmindedly and saw a quaint log house in the middle of a big clearing.
The sky was clear with fluffy clouds drifting lazily, and the air was extremely fresh and fragrant. When she unconsciously inhaled the air, her mind became blissful. She also felt energized.
There was a small stream nearby. She also saw a beautiful and tidy garden with unknown plants, herbs, and flowers.
She finally saw the strange soft light that covered her body in a thin film. She blankly stared at her hands, which were clenching and unclenching slowly, as her mind failed to comprehend what's going on.
Finally, she turned to Chen Fan and fell into a daze again. Her mind that failed to understand what happened so far was in a vulnerable state that easily got charmed by Chen Fan's real look.
When Chen Fan saw Tang Hongyu's state, he nodded in satisfaction. This usually composed lady had been a tough nut to crack, but now, her usual composure was gone. This was what Chen Fan wanted.
After a moment, Chen Fan spoke up, "This place resides in one of the habitable planets in the High-ranked Galaxy in my inner universe. Because this planet is bigger than Earth, the gravity is higher here, so I protect your body from the harm with that light."
"Huh?" Tang Hongyu managed to snap out of her charmed state. She then gave a confused look towards Chen Fan as her mind couldn't understand his words.
"You're confused, I see. Understandable. This is beyond what a mortal can comprehend. Anyway, let's enter my humble house and have a break there. It seems that you really need one," Chen Fan told Tang Hongyu and then grabbed her hand.
When Tang Hongyu felt his hand touching her, she couldn't help feeling shy and blushing deeply. Although she was an experienced woman, her mind wasn't in a stable state, so she lacked her usual composure. This made her vulnerable to Chen Fan's aggressive advance.
In addition, she had an unhappy married life. If she was happy with her husband and had a deep sentiment for him, she would have a chance of fighting against the predation of Chen Fan's charm. Alas, Jiang Haishan was such a pathetic man that left his amazing wife unhappy.
Chen Fan easily caught her reaction and felt pleased by it. So far, everything went so well, and he hoped that it would go smoothly like this until he thoroughly conquered her.
Chen Fan brought Tang Hongyu into the house and made her sit in one of the wooden chairs in the sitting room. Tang Hongyu, who was stuck in a daze, allowed Chen Fan to bring her with him.
"Wait here, Auntie Tang. I will brew tea to help you calm down," Chen Fan told Tang Hongyu before moving to the small kitchenette in the corner.
As Chen Fan walked off, Tang Hongyu's gaze lingered on his form. She had a hard time tearing off her attention from Chen Fan. His supernatural charm was too effective against an experienced woman with an unhappy married life such as her.
However, when Chen Fan's back faced Tang Hongyu, this lessened the effect of his charm because it was mostly concentrated on his face. This helped Tang Hongyu to snap out of her charmed state, and then she realized what she'd done and couldn't help feeling ashamed.
'What's wrong with you?! She's your best friend's son! You aren't allowed to get charmed by him! How can you face Sister Xiaoyun if you have feelings for her son?' Tang Hongyu admonished herself in her mind.
So far, Tang Hongyu had seen something that subverted her cognition and belief. This wiped off her doubts about Chen Fan's nonsensical claims. This also caused her mind to destabilize and showed a weakness to be preyed upon by Chen Fan's charm. Therefore, it wasn't really her fault.
Unfortunately, Tang Hongyu saw herself as the responsible adult between herself and Chen Fan. She couldn't help blaming herself because of her sense of responsibility.
