Chelsea eyed Brad. “I’m not that little anymore.”

“No, you aren’t.”

She went back to scrubbing.

“What are you going to do about Jake?” he asked.

“Don’t know. I guess we’ll see where it all leads.”

That surprised him. She had her life planned out to the millisecond. “No grand scheme? Not knowing exactly where you’ll be in two or even five years?”

Obviously chagrined, she tried to put on a stern face. A giggle erupted from her. “No, I guess not.”

He paused in his scrubbing. “Dad would be proud of you.”

She smiled. “He’d be proud of you, too.”

“Thanks, that means a lot.”

“Why is it that we can’t get away from our parents even when they are gone?” she asked.

He shrugged and dipped the brush in the soapy water. “That’s one for the shrinks, but I for one don’t think we need one.”

Jake’s truck pulled into the driveway. Chelsea looked over her shoulder. “Are you okay with this?” she asked.

“Yeah. Kind of nice having my friend back.”
