"Business is a science of identifying human needs, fulfilling those needs and in return get paid for it. From early times of human history we can easily find some old business models that were in use at that times. The barter system is the best example of an ancient business model, where one can trade his goods or services with others. For example a farmer can exchange some of his crops for some pots from blacksmith or a cobbler can exchange a pair of shoes for a services of a carpenter. As the time passed mankind became more civilized and developed a currency for the exchange of good and services. The most ancient form of currency we find in history are coins made from gold, silver and bronze. They remain a medium of exchange for a very long period of time until the invention of paper currency" Locus a senior member of the acedemy stopped for a moment to drink water.
"You told us business is the science of identifying human needs. How can you explain this in our underworld?" one of the student asked.
"Hmm, First you need to know their circumstances" Locus replied.
"I don't understand what do you mean? He asked in confusion.
"Look if you are a small trader you might need a pistol for self defence and to protect your goods. But if you are a owner of number of shops along with goods worth of millions of dollars you will need a team of guards to protect you and your shops and your goods from any potential threat" locus explained beautifully.
"Hmm I got it" He seems satisfied.
"Now we will discuss the application of business management in our business" Locus continue his lecture.
"First we should clearly understand that we are not saint, Noble or civilized people of the society. We are organized gangsters, criminals and smugglers so our requirements are quite different from other businesses. we require arms, drugs and ammo for trade and for our use" Locus looked at the entire class for any potential question.
"Joy you looked confuse, what's the matter?" He finally stop his concentration on joy.
"How can we negotiate for a maximum benefits from any business deal? Joy was now looking at him.
"Good question boy, First like I said earlier understand the circumstances. Now look at this glass of water. How much you are willing to pay for it?" he asked.
"Absolutely nothing. I will just go outside and drink from the water dispenser" Joy replied but he was still confused.
"Ok, how about a person dying from the thrist in the middle of the scorching desert, how much he will be willing to pay for a glass of water" Locus asked again.
"Obviously he will spend every money he has to save his life" Joy replied. He was now looking satisfied.
"Good this is the point where we can exploit our customers to get maximum benefits from any deal" Locus light up a cigarette.
That's sound understandable" Joy replied and made some notes.
"For us, identifying the customer and their need is equally important as in any other businesses" Locus continue his lecture.
"We buy drugs, arms and ammunition from every corner of the world and sell it to our customers. Now we need to understand how much our customers are willing to pay. If they are not able to spend good amount of money. Then we should offer them goods that are cheap, affordable and good enough for their need for a short period of time. On the other hand if they are able to spend a lot of money then we should offer them world class goods which are not only exceptional in their performance but also durable so they can build their trust on us. Is that clear?" Locus now putting his notes in his bag.
"Yes Sir" Entire class replied.
"That's enough for today. Tomorrow we will talk about some modern business models in details" He then left the class.
