________________

A beautiful sunset. The blue sea had been dyed orange by the sun as a ship goes off on the horizon. The air is a bit chilly. The clouds in the sky are also orange.

One large man was currently waving at another person. Standing on the deck.

"Don't forget to visit after two months."

After the loud shout from the person that was waving from the deck.

"Okay Okay"

A small response came from the man standing at the pier. Soon, a small smile hung on this man's face while the person next to him also smiled.

All in all, this seemed like that moment in an anime where the main character is leaving for an adventure full of hardship and YOUTH.

Of course, this wasn't it. Instead, Simon wanted to laugh his ass off at the thought of Toonka being the main character and this scene being wholesome.

Currently, Toonka was waving at Cale from the ship while shouting his real name. Finally stopping the l̶e̶g̶e̶n̶d̶ alias 'Bob'. (f in the chat for bob...but bob is eternal)

Only Simon knew what the people here actually were thinking about. He knew for sure that Cale wasn't smiling at Toonka. That smile was probably for the money behind this all.

What was happening here? Pretty simple. Cale made arrangements for Toonka to get away from here after their negotiations the previous day. For Cale, Toonka would easily be a very good person to use.

Simon was smiling because he knew why Cale was smiling.

Toonka was smiling because he was thinking Toonka things. (nobody understands toonka things, he has read many many books on Cale's life...wait is that canon or fanfic?)

After that very non-wholesome departure, Cale and Simon returned back to their temporary residence, and Cale was greeted by the whale siblings.

Simon didn't say anything during the whole conversation. He preferred to be silent for now.

He didn't even listen to most of the things because he knew what was going to happen. It's like how you skip unimportant dialogues when rereading something.

Maybe, Living that moment was a bit different than rereading but Simon wasn't interested to hear the same things he already knew like it was in the back of his hands.

If he had to summarize it, it would be something like this...

'My bro found the reason why enemy be strong'-Witira

'I don't care'-Cale

'me research. find reasons. gets chased. almost dies'-Paseton

'I don't care'-Cale

'Need your help cuz its happening in your territory from the Forest of Darkness.'-Witira

'I don't care'-Cale

'we gib you Compensation'-Witira

'Compensation?'-Cale

'Tell me what you want. I need information on what is happening, when, how, why, everything.'-Cale

Ahem, Ahem. Maybe it wasn't the best summary.

Let's see how Cale would summarize this.

'It's not like listening to them would be a problem, right? Plus it's in our territory and I can't let any possible dangers just lurk there.'

Ahem, Maybe Simon's summary was better. Leaving what happened, The rest of the conversation went something like this.

'Whale tribe be the second strongest in total and the strongest in the ocean. But the numbers are low. While mermaids are average with a large population.'-Witira

'They attacked other sea creatures and Whale tribe and are trying to take control of the entire ocean.'-Paseton

'hmmm'-Cale

'they are targeting the sea route between the two continents.'-Paseton

'the route belonging to the humans?'-Cale

'yea, they are breaking the very very important agreement.'-Witira

'what has this got to do with that Forest?'-Cale

'The mermaids got stronger through one ingredient from a swamp in the forest of darkness.'-Paseton

'we need you to take us there for us to find the rest of the truth'-Witira

'whats in it for me?'-Cale

'Sea route. the safest sea route ever.'-Witira

'Cool but don't want it. I need the power of the whales two times.'-Cale

'...ok'-Witira

*end of summary*

After the end of the deal, Cale plopped down on one of the couches.

"Are you really fine with helping them? Aren't humans not supposed to interfere with the lives of sea lifeforms?"

Simon decided to ask some questions that he already knew the answers to... but why not ask them either way. It's not like they talked very often.

"The mermaids broke the agreement before. Plus somebody is probably helping them."

"You think it's them?"

"...There is a chance but doesn't matter. We will know about it once we go there."

"Ok and also, why did you let that Toonka guy go that easily?"

"...then, Why did you beat him that hard back then?"

"Are you complaining that I did that?"

"No"

Cale wasn't going to defend Toonka. He was just curious as to why Simon, who always acted cool had beaten Toonka like that.

Toonka might not have suffered brutally but the way that he was beat was on another level. If Cale didn't know how this kid was, he would have labeled him as another strong lunatic.

"OK, if there is nothing else, I will be going."

"Actually there is something."

"Hmm?"

Simon wasn't expecting Cale to say something like that. Like always, Simon expected Cale to not bother much with what he did.

"Now that it seems like you have become stronger, I am sure you could live hidden from Arm. The money you got from His highness is enough to easily last any lifestyle you would want."

"Ah..."

"You seem like you can grow stronger. Do you still plan on following me around?"

Cale would be very glad if Simon didn't go away. It would be hard to find someone that would be as useful as Simon, who is also this smart.

"...If you look at it like that, Yea I could live alone. If I am careful enough or just cut my connections with the outer world, Arm won't be able to and won't try to search me.

It's gonna be pretty easy if I stay like that. But... I don't want to live like that."

Simon was saying lies at this point because he always planned to follow Cale. But, Some of his words were still true.

Simon wasn't some hero, He would rather survive himself. But, He wasn't like a cold and hopeless protagonist who had no meaning in life. Simon was the person that would meme at the worst villains for no reason.

He had never given up in his life. Sure he didn't have many friends in his past life but he never hated it.

Even the shitty life he experienced as a kid was something he forgot. He didn't even remember how things actually were back then. And, Simon couldn't care less.

He was the type to never sacrifice his own comfort for any stranger. If he could do something that he wanted to really do, Simon would do it. He didn't need a reason or anything to justify his actions. It was his life. Nobody else's.

"If I wanted to stay like that, I would never propose the idea of working together. I could have stayed alone."

"But, my life would be very bad. Running from those pieces of horrible sh*ts seems like a worse idea than facing them."

"...So you will stay."

"Yea, it seems like a better idea to at least fight back from where I have people that can help me."

Cale didn't how to respond so he decided to stay silent while nodding.

"Ok, if there is nothing like that then I will go."

Cale watched Simon leave the room. He looked up at the ceiling.

'It would be better to fight rather than to be hunted.'

-What are you looking at, human?

Cale couldn't say that he agreed with Simon very much. He was only focusing on survival. Cale knew that Simon was very smart.

It honestly terrified him how such a person would exist. Cale would have also questioned if there was also some other soul that was inside of Simon's body.

But, Cale dismissed those thoughts. Sure, Simon seemed like and was very smart. But, Cale could see signs of naivety in him.

Rather than naivety, Those were the traits of a normal 17-year-old kid. Simon seemed over-confident in many things. Would work on a whim. Doesn't like to work much.

Cale didn't know why but Simon seemed a bit too careless to him.

-Is it because I am that cool?

Cale wasn't the type to question things like this much. He gathered his thoughts. It didn't matter how that kid thought. Cale had only one thing.

-If so, I shall allow you. Look as much you want, Human.

"Hey, do you-"

"Don't call me 'you'?"

The black dragon appeared in front of Cale but he didn't sit anywhere. He kept floating.

'This again?'

"Then what should I call you?"

"Think it yourself."

"..."

"Anyways, Hey. Do you want a house?"

"...House? Are you abandoning me?"

The black dragon seemed angry at the thought of being abandoned. Cale wondered how this dragon was so different from other dragons, who were supposed to be egotistical and self-centered.

"No"

"Then?"

"Think of it as a Villa. We all could stay there for vacations."

"Okay"

The 4-year-old black dragon seemed to have agreed on a bit too fast and cheerfully compared to the black dragon from a few minutes ago.

"Ok, Then I will pick the location of our house."

"yeah yeah."

"So you will choose a name for me in a month."

"..."

Cale blankly looked at this 4-year-old dragon. He really felt like his worldview was collapsing. A dragon. The strongest existence was asking him to pick a name for him.

Dragons were egotistical and self-centered creatures. As the beings at the peak of this entire world, Dragons were almost unbeatable.

Now, this dragon was asking Cale to name him.

The cats near them meowed at Cale's facial expression. Cale, who just gave up, sighed and spoke one last time.

"Ok."

With this, the time for Cale's stay was also over as the most important stuff was completed. Cale decided to stay here for two more days and then got on the carriage as usual.

It was time to move from the Ubarr territory. Cale's next destination was the Henituse county. Or the Forest of Darkness, one of the top 5 forbidden places on this continent.

Filled with weird and strong monsters, It was dangerous for any normal person. Of course, Cale wasn't normal with a literal dragon by his side.
