The days passed and Max and Trevor's relationship was as sweet as ever. Ever since Trevor had decided to stop hiding their relationship, Max clung to him like a newborn to his mother. People had never seen Max so happy, and the sweet smile he showed when he was with Trevor was enough to make you realise how in love he was.
At the university, people were already starting to spread rumors that the two of them were really together, and this time it wasn't just a rumour, because people caught them kissing in Max's car, or sometimes they even walked hand in hand through the university restaurant. People were once again starting to pay too much attention to Trevor, but the fact that he may be Max's boyfriend had stopped some of the jealous ones from messing with the man. They knew what Max was capable of, so they didn't want to challenge him. All they could do was: watch the happy couple with jealousy in their eyes.
But as we know, there are always people in life who would do anything evil just to get what they want, regardless of hurting others in the process. These selfish people think that if they love someone, that person should love them back. So they were completely stunned when the news spread around the university and so on around the city. Some were in such denial that they targeted Trevor as if he was the one who was the problem.
Thus, even when people weren't messing with him at the university, Trevor would sometimes get stalked by people, or receive anonymous phone calls, calling him names or threatening him to leave Max, and so on. Max wasn't really aware of everything that was happening to Trevor. He did know about some of the messages he had received, as the security team always reported to him, but there were also some that could be passed between security team stakeouts. But Trevor preferred to deal with it on his own, he didn't always want to rely on Max.
Until one day his car was filled with toxic gas, luckily his security team was very efficient and cleared the car before he got in.
That day Trevor was really shocked. He'd expected some trouble after people knew about his relationship with Max, but not that they'd go this far. He couldn't help but imagine what would have happened to him if he'd actually gotten into his car and smelled the toxic gas. That night he couldn't sleep thinking about it. When he saw Max that night, he didn't know why, but he had stayed out of his way, he couldn't look him in the eye, he didn't want him to see the fear in his eyes, he didn't want him to worry about him.
He could see how tired his alpha was every day because the end of the school year was coming up and Max was very busy. That was why he wouldn't let Trevor out of his sight for a second when he had a little time. People thought they were too flashy, kissing here and there, but the truth was Max didn't have much time to spend with Trevor, and as soon as he had a little time, he expressed his love to his boyfriend and loaded himself up with hugs, kisses, and the smell of his babe.
That day when he learned from the security team that someone had planted poison gas in Trevor's car, he rushed home, when he went to the open door of their bedroom, Max didn't go in, but stopped outside the door. Inside he could see Trevor leaning silently against the fence of the window, staring blankly into space with lifeless eyes. The golden afternoon sunlight streaming through the window made the moment, even sadder in Max's eyes. His brown hair shone in the golden light, and his handsome features were caressed, but the glow in his eyes was faint, a faint trace of worry was on his face.
Max leaned against the door and looked at his boyfriend silently, somehow knowing that he shouldn't disturb Trevor at this moment.
That night Max had been waiting for Trevor to come to him, at least waiting for him to voice his concerns, but Trevor didn't come to him, he didn't even vent his anger. He was beginning to feel Trevor put a little distance between them, he knew how uncomfortable he was with the situation, he wanted to do something for him but he didn't know what to do.
So he started by making some rules. He didn't understand why people cared so much about his relationship. He knew he was a catch, that a lot of people had their eyes on him, but that absolutely didn't give them the right to come into his life and mess everything up.
Soon they'd caught the culprit of Trevor's car accident. Since the man was going to prison for more than ten years, Max set his sentence as an example for other brave people who would dare to do something to Trevor.
To prevent something like this from happening again, he posted a short message on the university's website and on his social media officially announcing that Trevor is his boyfriend, the man he loves and has made his life partner, and if anyone has anything to say about it, they're welcome to come to him!
That day, the whole university was in turmoil. Those who had hoped that his relationship with Trevor was just a fling and who still had hope of winning his heart one day were finally disappointed!
Trevor was the most surprised by the announcement. Max didn't like being in the spotlight, no matter what people might think, and now here he was, announcing his relationship to the world.
When he got home that night, he found Max sitting on the couch eating ice cream. Since he had been avoiding him for the past few days, he didn't know how to face him, so he went as fast as he could to avoid him!
Max knew he was home as soon as Trevor passed the gate. As Trevor passed behind Max, he heard a raspy and imposing voice.
"Come here!" It was the first time Max had used his alpha superiority to get the omega to obey him. He didn't want Trevor to ignore him again, he just wanted to talk to him, but when he saw him looking down at the ground instead of looking at him, it frustrated him, and without him knowing it, he used his alpha right to get Trevor to come to him.
Trevor felt great pressure take possession of his body, and soon he couldn't control himself and followed the command like someone without a soul. He came and sat down right next to Max before he regained consciousness. He looked at Max a little shocked before looking back down at the ground.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you do anything like that. I guess I was just trying so hard to get you to talk to me." Max apologised as soon as Trevor sat next to him.
"It's okay; just don't do it again!" Trevor was still a little shocked.
"But why aren't you talking to me lately? Why don't you tell me what happened to you?" Asked Max, leaning back on the couch a little discouraged.
"I'm sorry, I just didn't want to cause you anymore worry! You already had so much on your plate, I wanted to handle this on my own. I just wanted to show you that I can take care of myself." Trevor said, finally looking at Max.
"But why are you avoiding me?"
"I'm not... It's just that you're so busy that I don't want to bother you when you're home... That's all."
"But you're putting distance between us..."
"I... I'm sorry..." He sighed. "Okay, maybe I'm having a hard time not blaming you for what's happening to me right now... I was starting to think that it was all your fault... That I was right, that I shouldn't have agreed to make our relationship public in front of everyone... I know it's just my fear taking over in my head, so I've been trying to avoid you because I didn't want to hurt you unnecessarily because I know my mouth can spout some nonsense sometimes..." confessed Trevor.
"So you think it was a mistake to openly accept your love for me?" asked Max a little sad when he heard what Trevor had said.
"No, it isn't! I don't really regret that decision... It's more like I'm scared!"
"scare of what?"
"I don't trust myself enough to take all this. I didn't think things could go so far... So I'm afraid I'll give in to my fears and hurt you again."
"Then why won't you let me help? We're a couple, after all, we should be able to agree when we're faced with a problem, don't you think?" Asked Max, taking Trevor's hand.
"The way you take care of me when you bring me food, when you organise my files, or even when you do all the outside chores to take some of my work off my hands when you prepare my clothes when I've to go to work early, when you stay up late just to accompany me because I've too much work to do! I also want to help you lighten your load! There are two of us in this relationship, you're not alone!" Max stated a little annoyed, to which Trevor looked at him with apologetic eyes.
"I ... I know, honey, and I'm sorry. It's just that I wanted to take care of it myself so I could prove to myself that I'm strong enough to stand by you! I'm really sorry that I let you down! Forgive me, okay?" Trevor leaned over to Max and gave him a burning kiss!
