Chapter 9: Inspection (1)
As they were chatting Mike's voice resounded, "We're here!"
This made everyone turn their heads to the window to finally witness the so-called ~ Suicide Bridge.
Felix and others stared outside the window to get an actual view of the bridge.
"Alright! We have arrived. I won't be leaving the bus and indulging in your activities. So, spare me out, guys! Leave your needless baggage inside only. I'm gonna park my bus right here. And, whenever you feel like my assistance is required just call me. Okay!?" As they were peeking outside from the gaps of the windows still busy while scrutinizing the bridge, Brian's voice instantly made them realize that they have to move out now.
After saying that Brian lifted off his hat exposing his short brown hair and slung it onto the small hook which was positioned near the rearview mirror above. He wasn't entirely exhausted yet. However, he still decided to rest a little as he slumped back into the seat.
Grabbing their backpacks everyone else came out of the bus leaving Brian the only one inside.
*Squeak* *Squeak* *Slam*
The door of the bus closed as its hydraulic air release system made a squeaking sound. At this point, even that sound that nobody pays attention to felt like the noisiest creaking sound they ever heard.
The whole area appeared sequestered. Too quiet. Felix stood behind everyone else as he gazed towards the entrance path of the bridge. Nobody knowing what he was thinking right now. The light cold breeze kept blowing making the bangs on his hair flutter. He seemed fairly attractive.
Although everyone was occupied in evaluating the site further, Celia was the only one who managed to capture the glimpse of Felix's handsomeness at that juncture.
'I was right. He is clearly very handsome. Really handsome! Eh!? Celia!? What are you even thinking? Concentrate on the investigation, not on Felix right now. You overly dreamy girl,' she shook her head and lectured herself for getting distracted by the irrelevant yet very fascinating scene she just saw.
"I'm already getting awful vibes here," Alex who now had her denim jacket on, uttered while staring at the bridge.
"True! And, it's really a bit cold here," hugging herself, Celia spoke softly continuing to eliminate her previous thoughts.
"My weather app shows it's 18°C right now. No wonder it's a bit cold. It's already October. Winter sure is coming," said Paul after sliding his phone back into his pocket.
On the other hand, Rob and Steve who were prepared to begin shooting glanced at Mike, waiting for his indication.
"Intro brief right!?" Rob asked Mike, seizing his camera into his hands.
Without even glancing at him, "Yes!" Mike answered back as if the reply was obvious.
"Alright then! Take the position," he told Mike.
Everyone else except Felix shifted sideways as if they were already familiar with the procedure.
Felix was holding his spot when all of a sudden, someone clasped his hand and pulled him behind hastily.
When he turned around to notice who it was? He saw Alex with a faint smile on her face, her enchanting blue eyes already locked onto him. She pulled him so close to herself that even their shoulders were in contact with each other.
But, that wasn't just the end. Right at the next moment, he saw her shortening the distance between their faces as if she was reaching out to kiss him. Widening his eyes in surprise, he had no choice but to turn his head away from her.
"Our leader will give an intro brief about the site. So, isn't it common sense to move out of the frame!?" she leaned close to him, her hot whisper tickling his ear. Those pink kissable lips were only a few centimeters away from his ear. Her titillating voice could turn any man's lust on at this point.
She smirked when she saw how he just turned his head away from her. If he kept behaving like that, no doubt teasing him might become her favorite hobby.
'Damn! I'm really not good at dealing with such situations. It'll sure take quite a while for me to get used to Sis Alex's approaches.'
Perceiving her action he replied, "Ah! Right! Thank you! Well, now... you can release my hand, Sister Alex."
However, to his surprise, she didn't even release his hand, instead, she intertwined her long fingers with his; gripping his hand much tighter than earlier.
She could feel the warmth excluding from his hand.
Feeling those rough manly calluses on his palm again, an uncommon feeling rose inside her heart. This was the second time she felt his hand within hers. The very first time was during their meeting where she stood abruptly and greeted him.
'Did she heard me or not!? huh? Sister Alex!? Fuck! She's not even listening to me. I'm not gonna say it again.'
Meanwhile, Rob was done with choosing the perfect angle where on camera he could see Mike along with the bridge's entrance in one frame.
"Okay! In 3, 2, 1, Start!!" Rob said aloud before pressing the record button.
'That clapper board guy is the only one missing here now',' Felix chuckled in his mind as he thought inwardly.
"Guys!! We are finally here! You can already see the bridge right behind me. The bridge, which is believed to be haunted by an unknown number of spirits. As you can see, there isn't a straight passageway. It curves slightly to the right. You can see the lightings the bridge has. They're beautiful! And, Of course! Here are the rest of the team members."
Mike directed his hand towards Felix and the others in response to which Steve veered around his camera and focused on them.
Everyone gave a gesture. Celia and Veronica revealed a peace sign where Nick and Paul raised their thumbs. Alex just grinned and waved her hand as if she was saying 'Hi' to the viewers. She had a huge number of fan following. After all, an ethereal beauty like her along with her affable and convivial personality, there was no way anyone with the eyes could turn a blind eye to her.
Not only Alex but Celia and Veronica too. It won't be a stretch to say that if the show was able to preserve its rating currently then, it was thanks to these three beauties.
Unlike his teammates, Felix was standing alongside them struggling badly to put an end to his awkward smile which ensued only a failure.
'Yes! This is that legendary awkward situation which people always use to talk about. It's just like when people sing the freaking 'Happy Birthday' song for you and you don't know what the hell you are supposed to do at that moment. I should be glad that I was deprived of such situations since nobody was there to celebrate my birthday. Of course! Except for you old man.'
Felix thought as he recollected memories in remembrance of his late old man, who was his only family.
As they were standing, a car just ran past them which made everyone turn their heads to stare at it.
"I thought this place was isolated," Felix articulated in a low voice yet loud enough to be heard by everyone.
To his confusion, Celia responded, "No! Felix! The bridge is still in use. People use it just like a normal bridge as if nothing occurred here. But, the traffic here always stays inadequate as compared to our usual street roads or bridges."
"I see!" He nodded in acknowledgment.
Nick who felt he was being disregarded in the discussion declared, "Look, guys! Before proceeding, just choose whatever you're gonna use here, and we can leave the rest of the equipment in Brian's bus. How does that sound?"
Finding his recommendation appropriate, Mike instructed everyone to carry only the essentials and to leave all the needless stuff inside the bus.
Nick snickered as his proposal was acknowledged by their leader. He showed an egoistic smile to Felix as he walked past him.
'He's still after me? Damn! Man! Don't try to push things dude because once I go mad then, it gets really difficult to prevent me from... Ah! I'll just ignore him for now.'
Sighing, Felix overlooked Nick's scornful smile and proceeded to follow the instruction.
When everybody was busy with the work bestowed by their leader, Mike started to explain the history associated with the bridge. He explained what Celia told Felix earlier on the bus.
And, after quite a while, they were finally ready to step onto the bridge to unravel the mysteries and secrets related to it.
The Bridge truly looked beautiful if one could ignore the fact that it was haunted.
They discussed the lightings the bridge had. They were just like street lights. However, more expensive; seemingly extravagant, and impressive. They were designed a bit differently. The iron pole was designed in a cross-shaped manner, where the top portion had one big white-colored ball-shaped glass.
This glass contained the LPS lamp inside thus, producing an ample amount of light around its area. Similarly, three more ball-shaped glasses were positioned in series right below the top portion.
And, this same pattern was followed by the other lights in series from the starting point until the end of the bridge.
Although, it appeared beautiful. Veronica was getting some terrible vibes. She saw how wonderful the lights looked. It was all dark and only these lights were situated in succession alongside the railings of the bridge. She saw how the sight in front of her seemed remarkable yet she couldn't utter what was that unusual feeling which she was getting.
Along with the beauty, it gave her a creepy and dreadful feeling. Still, she remained quiet as no one else in her team mentioned it.
When they arrived at the entry point of the bridge, without glancing back they finally stepped forward and entered the two-lane-based bridge.
After everyone entered, Felix took a sharp breath as he tightened his backpack and stepped forth.
But, the moment his right foot entered into the vicinity of the bridge and came in contact with the road, his eyes widened as a terrifying chill went down his spine.
