"Awakening?" Sintija repeated the word. "What do you mean by that?" She looked up at Markos with a curious tilt of her head. 

Markos shifted and nodded. "Yes," he pursed his lips together as he tried to find the right words to explain what had happened and what was going on. "Mara marked us and freed us from the limitations the Church placed on us." 

"What limitations?" Sintija asked, trying to coax more information on the inner workings of the organization she fought with for the duration of her life. 

Markos rubbed the back of his neck, glancing over to Caelyn for a moment. 

"It's better to show you." Caelyn pulled off his shirt, revealing a massive intricate network of black tattoos all over his chest and arms. "These tattoos were made with ground maraium ink."

Sintija's eyes widened in dismay. It was a metal that hurt magic users and disrupted the flow of the Word. It was why templar swords and their shot were made from it.
