As the doctor brings us to the maternity ward, into a fresh clean room, all ready for me, they get me into a hospital gown, I lay down, they get me hooked up to IVs and the contraction monitor, keeping track of the baby’s heartbeat. They tell me to relax, I can’t eat anything until after the baby, only clear liquids for a bit, after 18 hours of dealing with everything, including getting an epidural, I give birth to Miley, who is 4.5 pounds, they let us each hold her for a few before taking her to this NICU. I was exhausted, all that hell for her, all that pain for those 18 hours, even with the epidural the pushing was intense, it was nice to finally meet her, even if it was 6 weeks early, they have me order food, since I hadn’t ate since before I arrived.
