It's no surprise that I'm meeting Elon here. He lives next door, so the odds of us bumping into each other was pretty low.
"Did you just come out of that apartment, Rudy?"
"Listen, whatever you're thinking, you're wrong. Nothing happened."
"Rudy, I don't want you anywhere near Nola, you got that?'
"Elon, calm down. I'm not doing anything to her. Listen, I only wanted to visit her mom."
"My mom?"
"Uhh... yeah... you mom."
"Rudy, will you just tell me the truth already? What are you doing to Nola? You say you're not a bully, yet here you are, stalking her."
"I'm not stalking her. I'm... well..."
At this point, the door opens and out comes Nola, "Elon!"
"Nola!" says Elon. "Are you okay? What did he do to you?"
"I went to the toilet by myself! I didn't need you, Elon!"
"You did!? Are you serious?"
"Yeah. It was after Rudy... uh...." She then turns to me.
"What about Rudy? What happened?"
She walks towards me, grabs my arm, and pulls me away while telling Elon, "I have to talk to him in private."
We left a dumbfounded Elon as we head on over to the entrance of the stairs where a small balcony was positioned.
"Nola, did you go by yourself?"
"Yeah. No problem even... and I might not need Elon anymore."
"That's great. You're finally on your way to being better."
"The thin is... I actually went before without Elon, but only because I thought he confessed to me, only it was a lie however. Then I once stopped being able to go because he rejected me, only when he kissed me and I could go again. Now... well..."
"Because I want you as my girlfriend, that's why you can go?"
"Maybe... I don't know what it means. Maybe I do want a boyfriend? But... not you. It's not that I don't like you, but I can't be your precious girlfriend. But maybe... I have to?"
Nola doesn't look please with the situation. On the one hand, looks like she managed to do it because I asked her to be my girlfriend. But on the other hand, I'm putting her in an uncomfortable position. What should I do? What can I say?
"You want to be her boyfriend?" Oh crap, I was so shocked that I didn't notice Elon. "Rudy, what the hell is going on? What are you planning?"
"Elon," Nola says, "please calm down. He's my friend."
"No, Nola. This guy is nuts! He has this thing about the bathroom."
"I know all about it, and I won't judge him for it. After all, he didn't judge us when he found out."
"But still, your boyfriend?"
"I rejected him... maybe."
"Maybe?" I say. "Are you actually reconsidering?"
"Don't do it, Nola," Elon continues. "This guy claims to not be a bully, but his actions and words say otherwise."
Then Nola, "Can you please stop saying mean things about him. He's my friend and he hasn't done anything bad to me."
"He's only waiting for the right time to do something to you. He has a weird fascination with bathroom stuff."
"I told you I know of it already."
I finally step in, "Elon, I'm not going to be her boyfriend. I'm not even attracted to her. In fact, I don't even know why I said that. I guess I was going through some issues. In any case, don't worry about it. Nothing is going to happen between us. Nola, I'm leaving. Tell me all about it on Discord." And I take my leave.
== Elon POV ==
"Nola, what is going on?"
"I should ask you the same question. Why are you being mean to Rudy? He's done nothing wrong."
"Nothing wrong? He's been harassing us and Heather for information about our bathroom trips. I heard he grabbed you in a violent way."
"Yeah, he did, but he apologized and I forgave him."
"But even with that, why are you hanging out with him?"
"Because I'm lonely, that's why. I always had you by my side. I couldn't wait for school to end so we can hang out together. But you've been avoiding me for some time. I have nobody to talk to, and I don't count Heather. She's not my friend, you forced her on me. Rudy is a true real friend. He listens to my problems, laughs at my jokes, and gives me plenty of butt pats."
"Butt pats!?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry I was all touchy on you for so long, but he doesn't mind."
"That's exactly what he wants. He wants you to do something weird to him."
"Like pee on him?"
"Uhh... I think so, yeah. He may even want to pee on you for his sick fantasies."
"He already told me. He told me that's his fantasy and he doesn't want to anymore. He wants help, and I'm going to help him."
"I can't accept this. I'm putting my foot down. You are not allowed to see him ever again."
"You can't tell me what to do anymore. In fact, I don't need you. I can go by myself now, no thanks to you. So mind your own business, okay? You don't have to take me to the toilet anymore, you're now free. I won't keep you anymore. You got your wish, Elon."
She storms back into her apartment while I was just standing there, dazed. But I quickly snap out of it. I go into my former apartment just in time for Nola to lock herself in her bedroom.
"Mom!" I shout.
"What is it, former child of mine?" she asks.
"Do you know who that guy was who was just here?"
"Oh yeah, that's Nola's future husband."
"So he did ask her to be her boyfriend? What did he say?"
"Sorry, that's confidential."
"About his bathroom obsession?"
"Oh, you know. Okay, yeah. He wants golden showers."
"Mom, you can't let him in here. Nola could get hurt."
"He seems like a nice kid. I see nothing wrong with him."
"He's crazy. He's most likely pretending to be nice. He could by a sycophant."
"He's into sick elephants? I thought he wasn't into bestiality."
"That means he's pretending to be her friend but he's planning on something and I know it. Mom, if he comes back, call the police."
"That far? Elon, don't you think you're overreacting?"
"I know who he is. Trust me, Nola deserves better than that creep."
"Like you?"
"What?"
"Nola just confided in me that she went to the toilet all by herself just now, and it's all that boy's doing."
"I'm sure the therapy finally worked. It's all a weird coincidence. That guy can't be trusted."
"Or is it that you're jealous that she has found a new friend."
"Mom, what are you inferring?"
"Your losing Nola at a fast rate. You've been attached to that girl for so long that you can't take the idea that you're now separating. Now that she can go by herself, you feel like you're losing her, just like how she felt she was losing you. You're both separating, Elon."
I just stood there in silence. It's only now that it dawned on me that she can go by herself now. I don't have to follow her to the toilet anymore. I... can't believe it.
"I need to go home now. I'm sorry."
"Come on, Elon. Just stay for a little bit and let's talk about this. Dinner is almost ready. We're having lobster."
"No. I need some time to myself. I'm now realizing what just happened."
I turn around and head for the door. I didn't even pay attention to Mrs. Uro's in-your-face screams as I just head to my room and lay in my bed.
I can't believe it. Nola can go by herself. It's over. I don't have to go with her anymore. This is it, the moment I've been waiting for. I'm officially free.
But... this doesn't feel right.
