In a flash, Takeshi found himself on the Island of Steel. The Kirigakure Shinobi Corps possessed interesting means of transportation, having access to the maritime route and water ninjutsu to power boats and reach their destinations faster.
However, he was not here as Otuka's disciple. As the commander of the platoon in charge of defending the Island of Steel, Elder Otuka could not afford to teach him. Instead, he gave him scrolls about the Haze technique, a training sequence to complete on a daily basis to reinforce his body as well as a couple C-rank water ninjutsu. If he wanted more, then he would need to prove his worth in the battlefield.
Around him, his age raised some suspicions.
"How old are you, really?", a genin called Kyo asked.
In kirigakure, it was rather rare to graduate before the age of 10, much less without the bloodbath competition that happened at the end.
Takeshi answered truthfully: "Nine"
The other genins frowned slightly. Those who had been selected for this mission were the best of the Kirigakure Genin Corps, those who performed the best. All of them had a record of at least fifty missions. They had travelled accross the lands of water, and sometimes, they even completed missions at the frontier involving skirmishes with the enemy.
Yet, an inexperienced child, nine years old, was with them?
It was not one, but all of the genins around him who were having such thoughts.
However, Takeshi ignored them. Even though it was true that he lacked experience, his skills far surpassed regular genins. In terms of stats, he was already on par with most chunins, and if you considered his kenjutsu skills, then he was even stronger, though the gap between himself and jonin was still very high.
As Otuka suggested, he needed to equilibrate his stats if he wanted to become a true powerhouse, something that was difficult to do.
