Chapter 399: Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 164. Heart Family's History I

Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 164. Heart Family's History I

"How about now," said Angel in a firm tone.

"Now? But it's already late," said Rose worriedly.

"I want to know the truth, Rose. I need it," he insisted.

"I understand, but I don't think it's a good idea right now. You are tired and stressed. If you start checking it, it might worsen your condition. So please wait until tomorrow morning."

"I'm fine. I'll be fine," he reassured her. "And I don't want to wait anymore." He wanted to know what was in there and how the Heart Family saw the war.

Rose sighed. She understood why he wanted to check the book tonight, but she was also worried about him. She remembered how Euphorion's history book took a toll on his health and condition, her family book might do the same.

But she also knew how stubborn Angel could be sometimes. So she decided to compromise.

"Alright, but only thirty minutes. Then you should take a rest."

"You know I don't need your permission for it, right?" he asked. A frown on his forehead.

Rose gave him a gentle smile.

"I know, but I'm your doctor tonight. So I believe you will listen to me anyway." Of course, she realized that she couldn't order Angel, or limit him to doing anything. But, she also knew that he would listen to her for this. He wasn't the type of person who did things without considering the consequences. Only, this time he could not hold his curiosity.

"Fine," he conceded.

After that, they left the bedroom and headed toward the library. Rose was glad that he was willing to listen to her. But at the same time, she also worried that the book would give him another hit to his heart.

They went through the corridor and stopped at the door of the library. Rose opened the door. Inside the room was dimly lit.

Angel swept around his gaze as he trod cautiously.

The room was huge. There were rows and rows of bookshelves. Each shelf contained thousands of books. The floor was covered with carpet. On top of that, the walls were decorated with paintings and drawings of different sizes. They depicted various scenes of battles and wars.

She led him to a desk where a librarian was sitting. He was an old man with white hair. He was wearing a black robe over his clothes.

"Good evening, Your Majesty, Your Highness. What brings you here today?" The librarian greeted them politely.

"We are looking for the ancient history book. Do you know which section has it?" Rose asked him.

"Of course, Your Highness. Follow me," he said. He stood up and walked toward a bookcase near the wall. He picked a nice-looking box from the shelf, then handed it to Rose.

"Here you are, Your Highness," he said.

Rose took the box from the librarian's hands, then thanked him and both of them went to a nearby desk.

Carefully, she opened the lid of the box and took out the book inside. The cover of the book was made of leather. The title of the book was written in gold letters on it.

"May I?" asked Angel, asking for the book from Rose politely.

"Sure." She passed the book to him.

Angel took the book carefully in his hand, then he opened its pages and started reading.

The first thing that caught his attention was the size of the book. It was much bigger than he expected. The thickness of the book was also impressive. It was much thicker than Euphorion and Asteria's.

"This book is quite thick," he muttered in amazement. He wasn't sure that he could read all of it in one sitting.

"The content is also very long and detailed. It's mostly about medicine and herb ingredients," she explained.

"I see."

He continued to read the contents. It wasn't easy to understand. There were so many details in it. Some parts were hard to understand. He had to reread them several times or ask Rose before he finally grasped the meaning.

Minutes passed. And Angel was getting serious. He was trying to find a clue about the dark crystal from that book. Or maybe about the princess or the ancient dark king. However, the information in there was too vague and unclear. And he didn't feel any overwhelming emotions like before.
