Inmate's Ballad: Way of thinking

"No, please!" Darius pleaded.

He kept pleading over and over. Albert slowly made his to Darius keeping a hand on his god-arc.

It was now or never. I turned to my fellow inmates and made it clear what was about to happen. They had no intention of stopping me. In fact, they looked more than eager to assist.

Inmate 3350 Tomas Da Tuscany

A once Italian god-eater was caught trying to go AWOL. Managed to dodge FENRIR for nearly a whole year, before he was forced to choose between aragami and a court marshall. I don't know the whole story, but in the end, he surrendered himself after fighting alongside the local god-eaters.

Inmate 3420 Laurent Romane

Once a FENRIR supply manager was dealing supplies illegally. This would include but is not limited to, other FENRIR officers who wanted a little extra for themselves. Could've stayed out of Maximum security if he sold out all the people he dealt with. Knowing full well he could be sent to the god-eaters to serve his sentence. He stayed silent and chose a life of difficult battle and aragami than sell out his partners. Which also included refugees who lived outside FENRIR's walls.

Laurent slowly approached Albert with me.

Darius was still pleading with Albert so no one noticed when Tomas headed for the driver's seat.

The engine started grabbing Albert's attention and he noticed Laurent approaching Darius.

"You want to know what situation you're in?" Laurent said making himself look intimidating.

"I have this under control see the officers inside the vehicle and await my instructions." Albert ordered. He attempted to put a hand on Laurent's shoulder, but the AEC suddenly drove past him stopping right at Darius's family.

"GET IN! THE ARAGAMI ARE ALMOST HERE!" Tomas yelled, frantically.

"Take your family and go..." I said shocking Albert.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!?" the portly officer screamed.

Laurent grabbed Darius and ran for the AEC.

"DON'T JUST STAND THERE GO!" he shouted, practically throwing Darius in as he hurried the wife to enter.

The wife almost hesitated, but she started moving automatically as her child cried.

"Mama, Tata, bring our son!" she said as she hurried inside to her husband.

"HALT!" Albert commanded as he tried to run to the criminals.

I put my shield up to stop him in his tracks. I nodded toward Laurent and Tomas and as soon as the grandparents and child were on board the doors closed. I glared at the FENRIR officers to make sure that's how it would be.

The AEC quickly sped around as I kept Albert at bay. The other officers continued to panic seeing their escape leave them.

"Captain, do something!" an officer begged.

Albert was a long-blade user. When he leaned back he attempted to swipe at my legs and forced me to jump back.

Albert's god-arc began to morph as he aimed for the escaping AEC. I bashed my buster blade against Albert's god-arc preventing the transformation from continuing.

That family was escaping, whether he liked it or not!

"What do we do, we need to get out of here!" one of the officers said.

Albert knew he had to deal with me in order to get back on the vehicle's trail. As a god-eater, it wasn't impossible for him to catch back up.

In predator form a well-practiced user could extend the god-arc for miles.

Despite how different we were, Alberts's mind worked similarly to mine.

"All of you, get back to the shelter and wait for a means to escape!" Albert ordered, struggling against my god-arc.

"Go back!?" the portly officer's question was only responded to with a crash echoing off yonder.

"There's no time! Get back inside now!" his fellow officer argued.

The rumbling was getting closer and we all knew what that meant…

By the time Albert could shake me off, the Aragami would be on top of him, and incapacitating me would be no easy task. The price of his success would mean facing the enemies alone.

While protecting his charges that were currently in a state of panic.

I eased off his god-arc, seeing he was thinking the exact thing I was. As the officers ran back inside, we stood our ground.

Todays Aragami; Kongou. Gorilla aragami that hunt in packs.

Fun fact; they have exceptional hearing.

Pretty sturdy, but heavy weapons like mine will make short work of the strongest Kongou. Something Albert lacked, and thus nothing needed saying as the battle began.

Albert would engage one Kongou and I would swiftly break its armor, so he could finish it off and I could move on to the next. After killing 4 it would seem like the threat would be swiftly dealt with.

However, the Kongou began attacking from a distance with air currents. These air blasts skidded off the shelter that was already damaged. I couldn't pretend I cared much for the officers we came for, but they weren't the only ones in there.

People now that I think about it, we would've left to die if we continued on with the original path. That shelter would've been their only haven and it was in dire need of wall repair.

If saving them, meant saving everyone, I didn't need to think twice. I made for the nearest ape and made sure that I was their prime target. All the air bullets needed to keep firing at me.

Once I was close enough, the Kongou just decided to punch me. Before I could feel their full weight Albert took their tails. As they whirled around with a start their backs were exposed and I took the opening.

I broke apart their back armor like plaster. I cut deep into one of the Kongou's abdomen, exposing its core. Albert pierced another in its abdomen and transformed the long blade into predator and extracted its core.

With one Kongou left, I hacked the exposed core and rushed the ape. I used Sameem as a blunt instrument and left cracks in its shell as well as smacking it around.

Its mask broken and body beaten, Albert and I gave it the final blow, destroying the core in the process.

We did it.

The shelter was safe. Darius and his family were too far away for Albert to do anything about it anymore and his charges were alive.

Fighting about wouldn't accomplish much. There'd be no point.

Right?

That's what I thought given I was optimistic and Albert had been cooperating up until that point.

But I was too eager to cooperate with someone who had the same thought process as me.

Sameem saved my life, as Albert tried to stab me and my throat. I almost didn't understand, but once I got a look into Albert's eyes I knew.

Tomas and Laurent would eventually come back, but who knows how many aragami would show up before then. All the people who lived here would have to submit to FENRIR's DNA rule if they wanted more protection than this.

Just like Darius's family...

Upon their return, it's not likely I would leave these people to die. I'd put 600 more civilians on that AEC before I put those FENRIR officers on, even if it was 6 at a time.

With that reasoning, it made sense that Albert would decide I was a major threat.

It was pragmatic thinking, soldiers thinking.

More importantly, he wasn't wrong.
