Chapter 45: Friend?
Outside Amber's house.
"Genny did tell me you both are neighbors but I didn't know you shared the same wall."
"We are neighbors who get along," Amber smiled. "Thank you for today, I really have no idea what would have happened if you weren't there to help me out."
Ivan sighed and nodded his head. "Don't you think you should seriously stop trying to help people who are getting mugged and who are missing, all by yourself? Not that I am saying you can't but it can be a little risky."
"I think you are right," she chuckled. "What am I supposed to do then? Just stand there and watch people getting mugged?"
Letting out an assertive sound, he agreed, "Well, you have a point." Pausing for a while, he suggested, "Why don't you call me? We can deal with it the way we did today, smoothly."
Smiling at him, she remarked, "I wouldn't dare to disturb a busy person like you."
"Oh come on, someone is getting mugged so as a responsible citizen of our city it is my duty to save random people from getting mugged." Ivan's hilarious remark earned a laugh from Amber.
"I am glad you care about our city so much." Unbuckling the seat belt, she added, "Before leaving, I would like to tell you something."
"I think you have thanked me enough—"
Cutting him off, she shook her head, "No, it's not that—I mean I do want to thank you over and over again but this is different." Without waiting for her reply, she explained, "I know you don't need any therapy or counselling but if you ever want to talk to someone about anything, you can always count on me. Not as a therapist but as an acquaintance or maybe as a friend, okay?"
"Thanks, I really appreciate it."
"Goodnight."
After Amber got down from the car, Ivan waited until she entered her house before driving away.

Next day.
Arnold's dine-in
"Okay so let me get this straight, he rejected your therapeutic help but you still offered to help him out as a friend?" When Amber nodded her head, Cath raised her brows, "You are trying to do charity."
"It's not like that."
"Well, it seems like that."
Pausing for a while, Amber explained, "Something about him makes me curious, I don't know what it is but I feel like he is lost."
"What do you mean?" Catheline curiously asked not understanding what Amber was trying to say.
"When you meet someone for the first time and feel like they are in trouble?"
"What kind of trouble?"
"Emotional trouble, it's like they are smiling but are actually muddled from the inside," she further explained.
Giving her a confused look, Catheline sighed, "I have no idea what you are talking about."
"You won't understand, you need to have a third eye to read people's emotions."
Nodding her head in agreement, Catheline exclaimed, "Of course I don't understand but I do understand what you are trying to say—Ivan Carter, one of the wealthiest men in the city is having some kind of trouble? Amber, that guy is super rich, he can do anything he wants. Why would he have any kind of trouble?"
"See, this is where people misinterpret things. Of course being rich gives you many liberties and makes you feel superior but that's not how life works." Without waiting for her reply, Amber further explained, "Life is not about having liberties and feeling superior, it's much more than that. Everyone one craves for a stable emotion, whether rich or poor. No one wants a turmoil of unstable emotion eating them up every second."
