Next afternoon.
"Genny's boss?" When Amber nodded her head, Catheline remarked, "I heard he is hot."
"He is Genny's boss, how hot can he be?" Amber chuckled. "Anyway, even if he is, it has nothing to do with me."
"Come on girl, at least show some interest in men. When was the last time you had a crush on someone?" Before Amber could say anything, she snapped, "Don't tell me Matt Corbis' name. He was handsome and crushable only in high school, that man is bald and looks like a truck now."
"Hey, stop judging people by their appearance," Amber retorted.
"Oh okay, let's also not forget that he was a jerk with a stinky personality," Catheline added.
Helplessly shaking her head, she sighed, "You know me well Cath, I am really not into relationships or going on dates. I have other goals in my life which are more important at the moment."
"Fine, I just don't want you to waste your youth this way."
"Well, I can tell you the same thing." Placing her hand on hers, Amber said with a firm persistence. "It's already been four years, how long are you planning to hang onto it? The longer you linger around the past and hold onto it, your present and future will be affected more and more everyday. You need to understand that only you can make yourself happy from the inside. But if you keep holding yourself back just because of things that happened in the past which do not matter now or will in the future, you are hurting yourself. And trust me Cath, that is worse than someone else hurting you."
"Why am I getting a free session in the middle of lunch?"
"Because you have a very nice and awesome friend who always has your back no matter what happens."
"Amber—" Placing her hand on hers, Catheline said in a gentle and thankful tone. "Thank you, not for the free session but for always being there. If not for you—"
Cutting her off, she frowned, "Hey, stop it. Don't talk about things which never happened. And if you really want to thank me, just pay for my lunch."
"Of course I will."
After the food arrived, Catheline asked her. "Did you visit aunt Silvi yesterday?"
"I did, I came back a little late and was in no mood to cook dinner when Genny arrived like my food angel. She brought some food over and I ate a lot," Amber answered.
"Don't stay out late at night, things don't look good around the city."
"Gen told me about the mysterious murders happening in the city." Scrunching her brows, Amber remarked, "It's very weird."
Catheline nodded her head and added, "Yes, the investigating officers suspect that some serial killer is behind the murders."
"I read the article yesterday. Didn't both the murders happen in the same way?" When she nodded her head, Amber sighed, "Maybe it's the work of some psychopath then."
"Maybe but everyone needs to be careful until they find out who it is. I am always worried about you and—"
Cutting her off, Amber assured her. "Don't worry, no one will attack me and even if they do, I have my tools." Taking out a pocket knife and pepper spray from her bag, she started flexing it. "You see these two, I never go out without them and if someone dares to mess with me, I'll chop off their fingers or slit their throat."
"Okay now you sound like a serial killer."
