Chapter 21: Mysterious Person
[Arthur's POV]
A mysterious person. That was my first impression of him. There was a certain gut feeling that I got from him, that he was dangerous. That feeling in itself was baffling to me. Me, being a seasoned warrior, a master swordsman was not supposed to get that kind of feeling from a child-like him who was barely 8 years old.
What disturbs me, even more, was that I didn't see anything wrong with him the first instance I met him.
Reynolds Hamsworth. A strange existence indeed. An existence that brought with it ungrounded fear as well as a deep sense of familiarity that felt like it existed down to the spiritual level.
It was a weird cognition to have. A feeling that couldn't be described in words that made it an object of frustration but at the same time, there was still that lingering feeling of familiarity.
It's not like I knew him. It didn't even feel like I knew him..... but still there was a moment of relatable conjugation... Strange... I wonder if he knows something that I don't...
"Umm... I don't think I should be taking part in this spar..." Amidst my thinking, he spoke up, flashing an embarrassed smile while scratching the back of his head...
"Yeah! that's right Rey shouldn't be taking part in this spar, this is for testing Arthur and Arthur only!" Dad almost sprang up from where he stood as if finally seeing a lifeline that he could use to get out of a predicament.
"tch! you got lucky this time dear..." "Ha...hahaha..." mom clicked her tongue in annoyance while folding her arms in front of her chest as dad laughed a deflated laugh.
All these things came off as really bizarre to me and I ended up asking "what's happening really? Why is dad acting so weird?"
"well, you see Arthu-" "Come on Art! we have got some testing to do! we can't dilly dally around any longer!" Before Uncle Vincent could finish, I was dragged away by dad.
'Really! can someone tell me what's going on!?' I did the only thing I could do, scream internally.
We were out in a garden-like area that was situated towards the back of the mansion.
Everyone else was sitting by the side on the flight of stairs that gave way to the back entrance. Dad was standing opposite of me, warming up and loosening up his joints while I did the same.
It seems Ellie and Lilia had taken quite a liking to Sylvie as they were running around with gleeful smiles. I had half guessed that Reynolds would also play around with them, as a normal child should but he was with the Hamsworth couple, waiting for our spar to begin.
It was then when I heard uncle Vincent asking mom if I was truly a red light core mage. As he received mom's confirmation, he went on to ramble about how snobby genius brats who are admitted into Xyrus academy are barely at the dark red stage when they are eleven or twelve.
' Well, it would be best not to tell him that I am only at light red because I couldn't train my core while assimilating with Sylvia's beast will.....' I thought to myself as I heard my dad speak up.
"I hope you are ready son, you have had your mana core manifested for a long time, so I will not be going easy on you and will be using my mana from the very first." He said while taking on a very generic fighting stance.
I was confused as to what he meant, as I also heard snickers coming from the audience side.
I got into my own fighting stance as I pulled up my two fists in front of my face and oriented my body so that my torso was at an angle with my feet.
I riled up my mana and said with a confident smile on my face, "Bring it on!"

Trinath_Mukherjee A shorter chapter this time because I couldn't figure out the pacing of the fight. I was checking out the webtoon on how to write it, I knew what I was seeing but couldn't bring it out in words... so yeah, I cut the chapter short for that.
