Chapter 42: Chapter 42 - The Fight of the Big Dogs (part 1)

Wilson stood on a small hill and looked down at the vast plain field below. He watched as a man who by all rights could be described as beautiful, stood on the plain field and looked around, covered in blood. Everywhere, there were people with weapons fighting till they dropped dead or killed their opponents. It was chaotic. The fighters were grouped into two; on one hand, there were those wearing black armor with stripes of silver and red that glistened under the setting sun. They wore silver helmets that exposed only their eyes. On the other hand, there were those in feathery white armor which by this time had turned red from all the blood, some of which was theirs. This armor was a lot more durable than one would think. They also had on, white helmets with colorful feathers sticking out at awkward angles and in a fashion that would intrigue any one who set their eyes on it.

The white armored fighters were a lot fewer and were dying in their tens, further reducing their already pathetic number. They were tired and most probably hungry but they seemed angry as well. They knew they were losing badly. It was obvious. Even then, they still fought with all they had. They were willing to exchange each of their lives with that of their enemies. And it was for good reason. These vastly numbered, black armored men were invading their home. The paradise their ancestors had discovered and died to protect for over two millennia was invaded by these faceless monsters. The home they had sworn to protect as warriors from the day they became one till the day they died. Wilson shook his head as he thought back to the story behind this war.

Their home was actually a small village when compared to the other places they had heard of, but it was way more abundant. They literally had everything they would need to live a fulfilled life. So much that they never had to enter into trade with any village or kingdom.

Then, one fateful day, their chief broke an ancient law that had been passed down for generations and married a foreigner that had strayed into their village and that was when things became rough. His advisors and elders did their best to make him see reason why he should not take such massive risks but their beloved chief was already blinded by love.

They got married against the wishes of the villagers and soon after, the chief died leaving not even the slightest sign of a child, born or unborn, behind. According to the law, if a chief died prematurely without a heir, his nearest male relative that was already an adult and in this case, was the chief's only younger brother, should take the seat after the deceased chief had been mourned and buried. As for the widowed queen, she is to be left to decide if she wanted to marry the new chief and remain a queen or she would rather stay a widow for the rest of her life. Doesn't sound too bad right? Well, this foreigner queen did not agree to this. She wanted to discard the laws of their ancestors and become chief. This was what enraged the people. How could some foreigner come to their paradise and claim rights over them. She was immediately exiled. She was never to show her face there again. However, on the day she left, she told them she would be back for blood.

Two years later, thousands of black armored men marched on foot behind a couple horses. One of which, the foreigner queen sat. they marched towards the village and the banished queen showed them the way and opened the gates and barriers that helped to protect the village. They immediately rushed in but fortunately for the villagers, the new chief had recently erected a new barrier. This barrier delayed the men in black as the banished queen tried to unlock and then, tried to break through the barrier by searching for a crack that she believed existed.

The time given to the villagers was not much, but it gave them the chance to run away. To leave their home of over two millennia in order to preserve their lives. The chief had other ideas though. He was not going to give up on this paradise which his ancestors had given their lives up for and the same which he had sworn to protect. The other warriors agreed with him and so, they stayed behind and prepared for battle, leaving the old men to take care of their wives and children. As for them, they were still young and were warriors trained from childhood. They were not afraid of anything. Let millions come, they will stand their ground. They knew that if they gave up on a place like this, they would never find such a peaceful home like this again. So, why won't they risk their lives to protect such a beautiful home? It was their heritage. They had to protect it and pass it down to their kids.

The chief looked around, covered in blood and was enraged every time he saw his men die. It was that foreign woman's fault. The old men were right. Bringing in and marrying a foreigner, especially if that foreigner was female, was a bad idea.

The chief searched for the foreign woman and saw her sitting on a horse at the far back, on a hill with Wilson. Away from the chaos and death.

"She must die! Even if I will die as well, abomination like her must not be allowed to live on." The chief said to himself and began to run towards the hill. His men, sensing his plan became even more invigorated and began clearing a straight path for their chief. They all had the same thought as their chief. Even if they died, she had to die with them. She did not deserve to live any longer. They pushed and stabbed and sliced and got stabbed and cut but did not waver. They ensured a smooth transition from the plains down below all the way to the top of the hill.

The chief ducked under a swinging sword and kicked a spear holder. The spear holder flew backwards a couple meters due to the kick force and collided with a couple other soldiers. Chief picked up the fallen spear the soldier left behind and ran forward. He stabbed a swordsman before he could even swing his sword and collected the sword from him, leaving the spear in the dying swordsman. The chief parried a sword strike, grabbed the sword owner's hand and threw him overhead at some soldiers approaching from behind. He threw a sword at another spear holder who was trying to stab him. The sword stabbed through the spear holder's chest and chief grabbed the spear which he threw twenty or so meters to penetrate the foreign bastard that caused all this trouble.

Wilson stepped sideways and let the spear penetrate through her chest, pushing her off the horse and pinning her to the ground. She died instantly. Wilson looked at her and smiled. It is good she was dead. If she was willing to betray a group of people like these ones, she would gladly betray him as well and so, she was better off dead.

Chief smiled as well and approached Wilson who looked at him with disdain and signaled for his men to stand back. This was a fight of the big dogs. Small lapdogs should stay away. They were useless in situations like this.
