Chapter 66: Conversation on the Train

After the meeting with the Chamberlain was finished, all Mattheus had to do was deal with the last minute requests at his office—he wrote a slew of letters to deny the dumb appointments that were a guise to get to know the Court Healer—before he was pretty much set to head to Mecane the next morning.

He didn't bother packing, only sending one last letter in reply to Jack before considering his week of vacation to the hometown he only saw glimpses of through a car and the eyes of Brunilda. Other than a vague sense of familiarity to Hexadion Hall, the remnants of the original Mattheus Crown had remained silent.

Mattheus thought it a bit sad but pushed away the emotion easily enough. At least there wouldn't be any preconceived impressions that might color his enjoyment of this short break.
