"Can we talk?" The voice on the other end said and ALexander went mute for a moment. Maybe it was because he hadn't expected whoever it was on the other end, or maybe he had expected it but didn't want it to be true.

"You're still there? You might wanna breathe a little louder, so I can know you're alive," the woman on the other end said.

Her voice was cold and emotionless. She wasn't even suing a scrambler, and that was the sign Alexander needed to know that the war had finally begun. This was what the beginning of the end looked like, and that he was about to face the best kind of karma.

"Bethany," Alex quietly let out.

"As I live and breathe," the woman said, before adding, "how have you been?"

Alex was in shock.

He hadn't expected this to be the truth. It was all supposed to be a bad rumor.
