Chapter 40: The Banana Master
[You have managed to raise the banana seed.]
[It became the banana herb, ready to share bananas with the world!]
[Your quest has been completed.]
[You have gotten the subclass; Farmer!]
Those system messages weren't useless nor rewarding by any means.
But Michu simply ignored those as his eyes had been glued to the banana herb he finally managed to get. It was his herb that towered before him and a fair share of bananas hanging around it.
The relief within Michu turned into excitement after other players' loud voices swept through him. All of them cheered and congratulated the monke, "You did it, Master Michu! I never doubted your abilities. You are the real deal!" The village guy was particularly loud.
The ladies silenced him with their glares, then chirped to Michu's ears, "Congratulations, Master Michu!" For them, it would take around a month to grasp all those abilities.
In the ocean of their cheers and excitement, Michu chuckled and raised his arms, "I did it! Hehe! It's all thanks to your support, everyone!" Even the scorching sun became gentler and Michu felt like it had patted his back!
He giggled to his heart's content, then extended his hand for the bananas. They were within his reach, so Michu's hands instantly got stuffed with those delicious fruits! The monke shared it with everyone to celebrate his first subclass.
"Eh… Michu, Michu, Michu…." Daria finally said something. She had been here all this time. Any player would recognize it by looking through system messages. If she weren't here, would Michu get the subclass?
She cast a warm smile at him, then it shifted into an encouraging one as Michu's feat was outstanding nonetheless.
The farmer passed through every player, then slapped Michu's sweaty back, "Those bananas weren't yours, were they?"
"Uhhh… Ahh… Yes, I have bought some from Old Man Hao-" Michu realized his mistake, but Daria cut him in.
"Even if that old man is experienced, his bananas can't possibly match the ones raised in our greenhouse. This place, if you haven't noticed it yet, is quite special," The sun was too much here, so Michu could connect a few dots, but he didn't want to make a mistake nor talk back to Daria.
He apologized, "I am sorry!" Then added, "But Old Man Hao's bananas are made with care and passion. He also works for his granddaughter, so his bananas fall just short of the royal ones!"
The players, especially those from the villages in real life, had a noticeable change of expression after Michu's words. All of them raised their voices, "We will pay for those bananas!" They were ready to give all their newbie funds!
Daria expected this, "Nope. Our monke can work in our farms, instead. Master, was it? From now on, you are a banana master."
[You have received the title, Banana Master.]
[Your farmer skill, Nourishing Water, gets additional effects--Banana herbs nourished by this water will grow and bring out bananas faster.]
"Amazing! Thank you so much! Everyone, I am no longer Master Michu, but The Banana Master! Haha!" Michu hugged Daria out of happiness.
If all former messages were rewarding, then this one made him feel fulfilled. He hugged Daria similarly to his mother and the answer he got was also the usual one his mother would give him.
It was rough ruffling. His hair got so messed up that the monke instantly used water to fix it.
"It's just the banana master title," Daria rolled her eyes, snatched the banana, and munched on it with a content smile, "Well, if you got rewarded with an additional title, then no one in the world can question your passion anymore."
Michu nodded a few times.
This gave him an idea. Because his monkey god's inheritor class was a secret that he needed to keep close to his heart, Michu often didn't know how to react when people called him monke.
In the game world, it made him nervous as people could connect some dots with unique or higher graded classes.
But now, he would just flash the banana master title and get over it!
"Michu! You got quests to work on this farm. We know that working here can benefit your skills. It should make them… evolve?" The villager guy asked others with his eyes and all of them nodded to his words.
For a newbie, it would be great to work here and make the same wonders as Daria did before. Michu would go around the banana farm, slap the ground with a stick and make them get higher quality bananas!
"I wanted to start my farm, but I can do it as additional training!" Michu replied to other players.
They blinked their eyes and then laughed out loud, "It's impossible to get land without backing, Michu! Even if you get one, you would either get uncultivated or too small for a proper farm!"
"I got land, though! Don't tell anyone, though!" Michu felt like sharing this fact with the players here. They were all nice people that worked together with him in this hellish environment.
Furthermore, they weren't players around his age, but at least ten years older. They were people whose eyes didn't contain many evil thoughts at all.
A human couldn't be without any greed or lust, for example. What mattered was that Michu never found these players uncomfortable and genuinely enjoyed his time with them.
Their advice was also great for the monke who was about to step into an adult world. He spoke about their first jobs and other stuff! It was initiated by players that took a liking to him, then Michu asked and asked, clearly wanting to change for the better.
He still told them to not tell anyone, though.
To these words, the players burst out laughing, "You sounded so serious… But you got a farm! That's nice. It means that our paths might cross in the future again!" The nice lady who often poured water on Michu replied with a warm smile.
She explained, "Michu, didn't you see how many people work here? It's because they have so many farms and lands under their name! Don't you want the same?"
"Of course! My banana farm will be the biggest!" Michu nodded with dreams concealed within his eyes. No one could dislike those eyes.
"That's why you can hire us in the future! Haha, I would love to see your progress by then," One by one, other players agreed to these words and looked forward to the future!
Michu didn't even feel like refusing them! "Yes! You can count on me!" He sent thumbs up and waves of laughter yet again flooded the greenhouse.
The farmer from this world spoke after this excitement wore off. She kicked others to do their quests as well, "Let's go outside, Michu." Daria turned heels and Michu followed.
The sun became even more supportive outside! It treated Michu the same like everything else within their eyes' reach; like a mother. Michu's face brightened with its support and he glanced at the glistening farms and farmers going around.
It was a great place with hard-working people!
"I can tell that you want to go to your land and try all tricks on your banana seeds, but hold your horses," Daria peeked at the gleaming monke and continued, "I am not going to hold you as captive here. Just promise me that you will visit here frequently." It was for both Michu and his banana farm.
As others said, farmers' abilities were meant to evolve faster here, so it would be a mistake for Michu to not even come here after his subclass!
He shouldn't get obsessed with his farm and absorb knowledge from others!
After all this had been said, Michu bowed and thanked, "You can count on me too, Daria! I will make your banana farms the best on the whole continent! Hehe!"
"It's good to dream high! Now, back to work. Don't fuck up, Michu, or this stick will slap your hands," Daria pushed Michu forward and both of them headed to the banana farm reserved for the royal and other noble families.
Although Daria could tell, just by the banana master title, that Michu's body held a lot of potential, she would have never expected what kind of bananas it would bring in the future. For now, her face wore a satisfied smile that enjoyed the time with the honest monke. It was always great to meet such energetic players.
No player will call him like that, though!
Thanks for reading! Have a nice day! ^^
Chapter 41: Just ask her out
On the royal farm, the monke had two important tasks. The first one was to raise the banana herbs in the blink of an eye. This task taught him that the banana herbs in the royal farm died very often.
It was as if their whole vitality was sucked by bananas so that they could taste better! This was one of the techniques that Michu instinctively understood and would utilize himself in the future.
For now, he just mourned over dead banana herbs and clenched their seeds tightly, "You will breathe a new life to this world." He continued with his task and more banana herbs grew up to unimaginable heights under his leadership.
This was the skill called Nourishing Water. In his inventory, Michu had reserves of water prepared by Daria's people. He just had to use the skill to pour it down around and make those herbs grow in the blink of an eye.
The soil was already prepared and so Michu just had to use his staff to bring out the water.
The second task was the most pleasant one.
It was harvesting.
Back in his early days, the monke would climb the banana herb, throw bananas into the basket and jump to another.
This was different from the harvesting skill! For farmers, it would be just Harvest Skill. Michu called it Banana Flow, however.
Tapping the banana herb, Michu forced all those bananas to flow down. Like ants under the ant queen's command, the bananas went straight to his inventory in a row. This row ended just close to Michu as his inventory was 'within him'.
These two tasks brought completely two opposite emotions that had been coursing through Michu for many days.
After he grew more familiar with his skills, Michu realized that the rewards from all of those filled his inventory with more than two thousand bananas!
"You got a few bonuses from me," Daria chuckled and patted the monke's shoulder.
He raised his eyes, concealing a lot of affection and disbelief, then continued to look at Daria with the expression of utmost gratitude. This took her by surprise and she didn't even know how to react.
Did he like the bananas that much?
Two thousand bananas meant that Michu could make two golden bananas! It was the reason why his eyes teared up, making him look like an angel descended before him. Alas, the banana angel wasn't in the world.
The farmer slapped his cheek and said, "If you want more bananas, then just work! Perhaps you want to get even more with such cute expressions? Dream on." Daria turned heels and left Michu alone!
He just shouted before she left, "Thank you for your help! I will come soon!" Yes, it was time for Michu's return, so the farmer didn't bother with his eyes glazed with affection towards the bananas.
Michu also turned around and glanced over at players in the greenhouse, "I am done with my quests! It's time for my return, so thanks for your company! Hehe! Bye-bye!" Michu waved his hands and others reciprocated his feelings by either smiling or waving back at him.
After many steps, Michu trod out of the royal castle and entered the city where more players scattered around. Happiness within his eyes faded, or more likely, turned into another resolution that pushed him back to Mountain Cliff City.
It would be a long journey, but Michu sprinted with no problems at all.
-
Next day.
"It's the weekend! A perfect day to begin my banana farm!" Michu exclaimed after waking up. He wrapped his futon, went to the bathroom then, looked at the VR Capsule, "This is a special day, an occasion where I will give up on early training." He said and opened the capsule.
However, his sister also woke up and called him out, "Michu!" She sounded serious despite rubbing her eyes and still being half-asleep.
Nana said, "Did you speak with Venomous?"
Michu flinched and looked back at the capsule, "I didn't…" Both of them spoke about Michu's exams that were near the corner.
Even though Nana never had problems in school, she was still younger and Michu didn't want her to focus on what he had to go through. It would be an additional burden, so he talked about the idea to ask Venomous, and ever since then, Nana had been asking him about it.
But Michu found no time to speak with Yumi.
"Lies!" Nana read through her brother's eyes with ease, "Are you scared to ask her? I am sure she knows about our situation. So her impression of a big brother won't change if she sees you in real life."
"I will ask soon! I promise!" Michu believed his sister, but part of him reminded him of the eyes of other ladies in his classroom. Though they were younger than Venomous, the gap was not big and they all looked at him with disdain and scorn.
The monke brightened, though, "I am not ashamed of my mother and sister! Sorry, Nana!"
"Don't apologize, stupid brother," Nana teared up and hid within the blanket. She understood her brother's words, though. She just hoped that there wouldn't be some misunderstanding between Michu and Venomous if she were to reject this meeting.
She then peeked and asked, "What about Sandra? Do you spend time with her?" Nana and Sandra were especially close as Michu's sister ended up loving the editing. She even edited some video samples already!
That was why she asked and looked forward to Michu's answer! "She hit level 25 together with Yumi, so everyone went their own way to get subclasses and new quests! I also worked too much on the farm with other players…"
"She is so patient and nice with me, so repay her in the game, big brother!" Nana requested!
Michu didn't disappoint, "Yeah! I will give her my banana!" He said and his sister shook her head with how ambiguous it sounded.
She then found out that Michu's face blushed deeply and he looked far different than before. It was the first time she had such a scarlet blush on his face, so stupor hit her. Under her widened eyes, Michu corrected himself, "I will give… my golden inheritor's banana for a new skill…." He embarrassingly said, then entered the VR Capsule.
After a moment of silence, Nana's shock dispersed, "Big brother is really changing! The game was a heaven-sent gift!" She thought about the person and his company that gave them this opportunity to taste 'normal' life.
Nana glanced at the laptop and whispered to herself, "Michu has a lot of work to do. How can I help?" The first idea that popped into Nana's mind was to learn more about editing, but the quality of her edits would satisfy total newcomers who wouldn't even be able to pay for her work.
From too much thinking, Nana could no longer sleep. She stood up, did the morning routine, then practiced more of her editing skills before the laptop.
Thanks for reading! Have a nice day!
