Chapter 12: Ch. 12 Her Tragic Past
Her father and Axel believed Alexis had been approaching her for ten years just to get revenge. And now, her father's company was in a state of crisis because of the new development of Alexis's company strategy. Vincent even told Axel to hide this from her, not to make her worried.
Her father even told Axel not to bring Chleo back to America to avoid the evil plan of Alexis that wanted to involve her.
What is this? It turned out that her father and Axel are joining hands to protect her? Why didn't they tell her anything? Why did they let Chleo hate Axel like this? She couldn't even recognize Axel's feelings for her all this time because she was too blinded by her hatred.
The miserable girl quickly turned off the laptop, and after making sure everything was back in its original state, she sprinted out of the room before the servants passed by and did their work. Chleo went through the day as usual. Had leisure dining, take a walk in the garden, or watch a movie. It was her everyday routine activities at home.
The difference was, this time, she waited for her husband to come home. She even wondered when her husband would arrive.
Even as she awaits her husband's return while watching a movie, her mind couldn't focus on the film she saw. Instead, her eyes glanced back and forth across the clock and wished she could talk to her husband before sleep hit her.
Chleo would struggle to stay awake even though a tremendous amount of sleepiness struck her. The unexpected, shocking facts she had just found in Axel's study room were very significant and might change her feelings toward her husband. It was more than enough to make her stay awake.
Chleo still didn't enter the room even though the clock showed eleven o'clock in the evening. Usually, she had entered the room at nine in the evening. When Axel comes home at six in the evening just to have dinner together, Chleo will go straight to her room after dinner.
Ever since their marriage two years ago, Chleo refused to meet with her husband, the person who had taken her freedom from her.
But... come to think of it, was her freedom taken away? Apart from confiscated communication devices or bodyguards following her, she was allowed to go anywhere and was free to do whatever she pleased.
Whether she went out to the park or out of town… Axel never forbade her to go as long as she let the guards or helpers accompany her.
As long as Axel knew where she was going, as long as she had no intention of running away, Axel never caged her. If she thinks about it, Chleo's life in England isn't like that of a prisoner. So far, Chleo herself had assumed that Axel was holding her back and keeping her hostage.
Rather than searching for answers blindly, she decided to ask Axel directly. That's why she waited patiently for his return. Unfortunately, Axel didn't come home until midnight. Chleo, who sat on the sofa, could no longer withstand her drowsiness, and she fell asleep unknowingly.
A few minutes later, Axel returned with a weary look and panda-like eyes due to overwork without resting. Initially, he had no intention of helping the Flex group, which was now on the verge of collapse because of Alexis's doing. But seeing Chleora's misery and suffering, he decided to let her go.
The girl's gloomy heart would surely improve once she gets back to her family. But before that, he had to find a way to settle Alexis's grudge. After all, Alexsei was guilty of causing Chleora an acute trauma.
He has investigated Chleora's childhood these past couple of months. Chleora was once a cheerful, energetic kid who was fearless of water. She even extraordinarily fancies swimming and couldn't stop bouncing if she hadn't sink herself inside the water.
But since the kidnapping incident, Chleora's life has turned upside down.
To save the dying Chleo and Meisya, who was once targeted by Alexsei, one of his fellow rulers of nature, the flame queen sacrificed all of her energy to the little girl. She did what most of the rulers had no courage to do it.
She did a life energy transplant to save the dying Chleo. As a result, the flame queen was gone for good, and the child's uncle, who is the lover of the red queen, cannot bear to accept the departure of the woman he loves. It brought the grieving man dead in a car accident.
Not only was she badly traumatized, but little Chleora also blamed herself for the loss. She also felt that her mother didn't love her anymore because she was sure Catherine accused her of the source of death.
Her mother rarely smiles anymore, resulting in little Chleora growing up to be a gloomy, introverted child and easily suspicious of strangers.
It was an ironic incident for the Regnz family. All of this happened just because Alexsei was so ambitious about taking over Peskhov's fortune from him. Axel had planned to give Peskhov's inheritance to Alexsei but dropped his intention because the older man was incompetent in managing his own accountant, let alone a whole company.
Not only neglecting his son, but the man also preferred to spend his time gambling, partying hard, and mingle and play around with whores.
When Alexsei learned that Master Peskhov's fortune would fall into Axel's hands, Alexsei used everything he could to become the son-in-law of the Heinest family. In this way, he had the assets and the power to offset the ownership of Peskhov's shares.
Axel had no problem with someone who has high ambition, but he was disgusted with Alexsei's way to get it. Axel determined not to give the inheritance to the unrestrained wild man.
Because of his stubborn head in the past, who would have thought the girl he loved had traumatized and caused two people to die.
Not only that, Vincent and Stanley both decided to take revenge on Alexsei, which resulted in a planned accident.
After knowing the past truth, Axel decided to help the Regnz's almost-bankruptcy business. He's trying hard to find a way to make the grudge between Alexis and the Regnz family stop here.
Plus… he couldn't bear to see his wife suffer from living with him. He has tried everything. He tried to make his wife happy and showed his sincerity for him, but nothing had worked.
He only made one mistake... a fatal one. If only he didn't force her or threaten her to marry him, their relationship might work better. No matter how hard he tried to make amends by getting his wife to smile or live an enjoyable and peaceful life, it wouldn't erase his unforgivable sin.
Chleo could never forgive him. Neither would she give him a chance to love her.
