As the thought of Tristan might've had an inkling about the incident or at least a small gist of it crossed the duke's mind, the footman's firm and respectful voice echoed through the opened door.

"We've arrived at the royal palace, Your Grace," he said before moving to the side to give way for the grand duke to alight.

The footman's announcement immediately interrupted the man's train of thoughts as the bleak atmosphere around him quickly settled down and Duke Balzac swiftly schooled his expression into his usual emotionless face, completely obscuring any sense of suspicion or worry. It was as though nothing had gone awry and everything remained within his control. He returned to being the respectable and callous noble that he was.
