Thud!
"Is… is it over?" Yakov asked with uncertain tone. His eyes were looking towards the Mutated Bone Xermo on the ground. There was no trace of blood or whatsoever on the Xermo's body, making him confused.
William looked at the Mutated Bone Xermo and tried to get closer. He looked at the spot on the back where the bones were shattered into pieces. It created a small hole at the size of a fist, but the wound managed to penetrate into the Mutated Bone Xermo's body.
Before long, blood started to come out through that hole along with some other unidentified items that usually belonged to human's stomach.
"I think so."
Yakov heaved a sigh of relief. "Thank God. I was almost go crazy with worry when it first attacked me."
William furrowed his brows. "Always be prepared. You wouldn't know if there's any enemy nearby or not."
They didn't have any equipment to detect whether there was human, Xermo, or even animals around them. They could only rely on their limited senses to know whether there was anyone nearby or not. If they were not careful enough, it would surely spell their doom.
"I know…"
William kicked the Mutated Bone Xermo to turn him over. Now that he could see the face clearly, he could also see the remnants of clothing from the Mutated Bone Xermo before it completely mutated. His eyes narrowed.
"Yakov, this is the trace of uniform, right?"
"Eh, where?"
"Here."
Glancing at the area that William pointed at, Yakov finally noticed the trace of clothes in the middle of the bones. It had been reduced to nothing more than scraps, but the familiar blue color and also the familiar pattern already gave him the answer.
"Yes, it's the uniform. Every city has different pattern, but the uniform is still very similar," Yakov replied.
From this, it seemed that this Mutated Bone Xermo used to be a police officer in this place. When the attack happened, he might have been wounded or left behind by his teammates, resulting in this pitiful consequences.
"Are the door locked when you come down?"
"Locked? No, not at all. It's open, and I only need to push it open," Yakov replied. "I thought that it was safe with no one inside. But when I walk inside, I realized that there's something wrong, so I tried to shoot."
"And you hit him?"
"Actually no." Yakov scratched the back of his head. "I hit the wall, so I continued to try again and again after I see him, but I failed miserably since his bones seem to block everything."
"… did you not try to shoot at the same place?"
"I can't see anything!"
"Really!"
"Yes!"
William sighed and pointed to the basement. "Let's just finish collecting the weapons and guns. We might be lucky if we can find some grenades in this place too."
"I doubt it."
"We can try."
The basement was dark, so the two of them had no other choice but to try searching in dark. It was hard, and they bumped with the items lying around the floor a few times. Thankfully, they managed to find enough bullets and guns.
"Are there no silencer?" William asked with a frown. The Xermo was attracted to the sound of gunshot. If only they have a silencer, it would be able to help them greatly to attack the Xermo without attracting them over.
"I found one."
"Just one?"
Yakov smiled bitterly. "I'm sure the police officers also didn't want to leave silencers behind."
William didn't answer. He was sure that there must be some other survivors who also came to this place and took the guns, bullets, and most importantly, silencer. They were not the only one who could possibly survive in this place.
It has been a few days since apocalypse started in this place, so it was safe to say that there might not be many survivors.
"We should try to go to the next police station."
"Ah? You want to go again?" Yakov asked in surprise.
William nodded. "A silencer is important if we wish to stay unnoticed by the Xermo. I'm sure you also understand the importance of it."
"But if we leave for long the others will miss us!"
"…" I don't think that's the case.
Yakov noticed William's gaze and quickly corrected himself. "I mean, the others will be searching for us."
That was more appropriate.
"Do you leave the walkie talkie with them?"
"Eh? No…" The walkie talkie was still inside his pocket and never leave his side ever since he came out. He completely forgot that they could only communicate with walkie talkie with others.
William looked at Yakov with annoyance. He took out his walkie talkie and tried to use the previous frequency. "Test, this is Lucky looking for Gloria."
"Why are you calling that girl? She will not…"
Before Yakov could finish his words, he could hear some sound from the walkie talkie before a clear voice of a young girl came out.
"Test, test, William? Is that you?"
"Yes, call me Lucky through the walkie talkie."
"Ok, but you'll need to change my name too."
"We can talk about it later," William responded. He paused for a moment. "How's the condition in your side? Are you safe?"
"There's no Xermo coming in for now. We are still busy cleaning up."
"Good. Keep the walkie talkie with you. I'll be going to the next police station with Yakov, so we might take some time."
"Ok."
William cut of the communication and looked at Yakov, who was gaping like a fish. The latter was basically staring at the walkie talkie as if he was seeing a ghost.
"That's…" how did he communicate with Gloria when the walkie talkie was with him???
"She took more than 1 walkie talkie back then."
Yakov: "…" how am I supposed to know that?
