Chapter 8: Ch 8 - Monsters?

'HOLY SHIT that was one hell of a jump scare! I was definitely not expecting that to happen,' I say to myself amused.

Before Mia's death, a very important figure's plan was going into action. That very being happening to be a king!

What Christopher and his party didn't know, what that they were in the middle of a dispute between very powerful and predominant rulers.

First, being the very emperor of the current world. His influence being stretched throughout seven of the ten kingdoms on the planet.

Christopher and his people were currently traveling to one of the two main capitals that are part of the empire.

That capital being called New Neviem which focused more on the strength of the body and advancements in technology. It was a place that was predominantly political. Rather than its benefactor Linstone. There they would increase mage prowess and it was where the main army was stationed. Linstone acted as the governing power of the empire and was the place in which the emperor resided.

The current leader of New Neviem had just declared war on an enemy which brought Christopher to this very predicament.

This enemy is the king of the forest!

His land surrounded the southern part of New Neviem.

For hundreds of years, the humans were mainly at peace with the monsters. With an agreement that allowed hunters to sustain themselves and monsters to kill in order to raise their kin with the exception of mass murder.

Yet this treaty that had been set by the ruler's ancestors was broken by the leader of New Neviem when he wanted more land and declared war due to his greed.

Thus, the leader sent out an army to lay waste to the inhabitants of the forest. Where he believed that he ended the monster's lives.

However, this was apparently not so.

Christopher did not know of the political dispute. Yet he was informed that there had been a purging of sorts and so the land was safe to travel as it was marked green for not dangerous.

What the people didn't know was that the forest king had survived the war and was out for revenge.

He was gathering all the living monsters and forming an army of his own as he began his march towards New Neviem.

Christopher's group just happened to be unlucky enough to get it their way.

Not only was this terrible news for the group but Christopher had actually doomed them all himself!

When his daughter Kylee ran away, he told all the guards to surround his encampment. That included the guards he had earlier sent to stand watch

And so with no one on the lookout, the entire group was surrounded and about to face devastation.

That's precisely when the monsters attacked. Which consisted of all types and kinds. From ogres and goblins to lupines and manticores as well as the fairy king!

"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Deadly screams could be heard from all over as monsters killed ruthlessly.

"HELP ME!" A nurse called out as an ogre tore off her leg.

The guard in front of her was shaking in his boots unable to do anything but watch. His only hope is that the monster would get full before killing him too. However, unfortunately for him, there were hundreds and they were looking for blood. Screaming went on nonstop as people were being killed, eaten, and torn apart as if it was a great joy to the monsters.

"PROTECT ME, you idiots! I PAID FOR YOUR SERVICE! Sacrifice your lives to stop them!" Christopher shouted while hiding in his carriage hold his daughter close.

Yet there was nothing anyone could do. There were no more than five mages that were hired due to their expense. Along with the fact that it was supposed to be a simple journey.

Of the guards, only twelve of the original twenty-seven remained. While the second mage just went down to a horde of goblins jumping on her.

Goblins were easy to kill but their high numbers made them a force to be reckoned with. And their ruthlessness put all other monsters to shame.

This was seen by all the people nearby who witnessed the death of the female mage. First, the goblins chewed off her hands and feet making her unable to escape. Then they continued to beat her over and over. While tearing skin and breaking bones. Before she could finally die from the blood loss.

"WE'RE ALL DEAD!" A guard cried out giving up on his thoughts of returning to his family after doing an easy mission for a wealthy merchant.

"AHHHHHH-"Another mage's scream was cut short as a manticore dived bombed him before flying away with his body torn in half.

With the death of the third mage, the remaining people's faces turned to despair. They knew that it was all over and just a matter of time before their own deaths.

Meanwhile back at the carriage where Noah was laying the king of the forest had come to greet him.

Hovering majestically in front of Noah the fairy was wondering what to do.

"You are not a normal boy what are you?" The king asked.

'YOU CAN TALK?!' I say aloud in my head.

After the lupine that killed Mia finished, it turned towards Noah and jumped. The poor wolf expecting a free meal out of a baby died with a flabbergasted expression as his head fell off its own body.

The nearby monsters seeing one of their brothers die turned enraged and charged at Noah. However, not learning from the first Lupine's mistakes they jumped all at once towards him before meeting the same fate.

Tens of monster's bodies were littered around headless as a seemingly innocent baby looked down upon them.

Noah was surprised at the easiness of killing the monsters.

It wasn't that he was strong or powerful. After all, he had only been practicing magic for a couple of days. It was just that the monsters were stupid and Noah was able to take advantage of it!

He wasn't able to move around his magic yet, however, he could form it anywhere he wanted. And so Noah would wait till the monsters jumped at him before conjuring a simple wind line in front of their throats. The monsters being unable to move in the air unknowingly jumped straight into the magic killing themselves!

It was as if running at full speed into a serrated wire that would instantly decapitate them.

"Of course I can talk! All monsters can! However, we like to keep it a secret from humans. Yet you seem to be an exception," The fairy said still unable to understand the situation.

'YOU CAN READ MY MIND AND I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU?!' I asked again becoming even more shocked.

"Yes, it's one of the magical traits a fairy can perform. Although, the fact that you are speaking in another language makes it very difficult. Luckily, due to your mind being underdeveloped as an infant I am able to translate your word to mine and mine to yours. If you were a couple of years older we would have no way of communicating. Also, the fact that you created a whole language as a child is an anomaly of its own. Now I once again ask you, what are you?" The fairy king replied.

'What do you mean what am I? Last time I checked I've always been myself,' I say confused.

Ignoring the sarcasm, out of curiosity the Fairy asked, "Do you mind if I take a look into your soul? I swear it won't harm you in any way. I am just curious about what makes you special."

'You can do that? Is that another one of your traits? Even though that's amazing, I would rather you didn't I don't want someone else tempering around in my body,' I say defensively.

The king sighed before speaking, "Yes it is another trait... what if I make a deal with you? I noticed that you are a wind mage. I also happen to be a user of wind magic. Since we monsters are creatures of the world we don't have to abide by the same laws that humans do although we have restrictions of our own I could aid you. Of course, if you allow me to search your soul first?"

Thinking it over I figured that I might as well accept. He said that he wouldn't cause any harm to me. Plus I want to find out why he is calling me special. Then with the added bonus of making my already profound wind magic stronger, it's a win-win.

'I accept,' I say.

The fairy nods before flying over to me and placing the tip of his finger to my head.

However, instantly after doing so the fairy flies back as quickly as he can.

"By my maker! You're the monster! You're a damn devil!" The fairy says shaking uncontrollably while backing away even faster.

'What?' I asked confused, wondering what he could have seen that would cause him to react like that.

"Your soul is black! Every being on this planet no matter who or what they are has a white soul. Yet when I entered yours it was so dark that it felt like it would swallow me whole. The rage and hatred I felt will give me nightmares for life!"

"Also, when someone looks into another's soul they are able to gauge the amount of power that they will be able to hold. Yet yours was... infinite. What kind of abomination are you?" He said petrified.

'I don't know,' I said lying unable to risk telling him about my reincarnation that probably had something to do with it.

"The main reason I wanted to see your soul was to find how much power you could hold in order to make a deal with you. I already had an idea that it would be high because of how easily you killed my brothers but I never expected... that. I already made the deal to teach you my own magical powers however, I have a new contract to make that will further develop both of our plans so listen closely."

"Although I have many allies I can't compete with the humans in power. If you promise to kill Edward the current leader of the human capital, in New Neviem within the next 50 years I'll bless you with my inheritance. Do this in my name Arkin as revenge for my people. Do we have a deal?" The fairy king asked with anticipation.

'Hmm, 50 years is a long time and I could care less about your feud so if I just have to kill some corrupt old man it seems possible. I will have plenty of time to complete it along with the gift of an inheritance which I can only assume will make me stronger... I accept!' I say.

"Wonderful! This is an ability that only monsters are born with and can achieve however, in your case I believe it to be an exception. Now as you know wind magic like all magic uses the ancient tongue. With the dialect that you speak, you can create all types of spells. What you will come to learn in the future is that the spells the humans created are only some of the whole. Well, I should rather say you already know because you can somehow cast as an infant. But I digress, monsters have the rest of the types of spells that humans are missing. For the wind element, I can teach you the only other type that I know. I am positive that humans cannot recreate nor learn it without being an exception like you. This type happens to be a subcategory that uses wind magic as if it were a body part."

"Since you have chosen to accept my inheritance you will instantly master the ability to use it."

"What makes it special is the way in which it is used. For humans, they use wind magic to go out and do their bidding however with this type it naturally becomes part of you."

"These are the key points that become available to you when you make use of it. First, you can form a force field. As you know wind magic for some reason can't be confirmed, yet, with this, it can!"

"Another thing is its durability. Wind magic will slowly dissipate if you shoot it outwards as it goes against the air of the planet. Of course, you can strengthen it as you get more powerful. However with this subcategory, because the wind becomes an attachment of yourself it will not dissipate nor hinder it in any way. That means if you shoot out a blade of wind it will continue endlessly until it reaches a target!"

"Then there's the final part which is an improvement to flight. As you may or may not know humans have developed a spell to fly. Their spell uses wind patterns to push themselves forwards, backward, left, and right. However, with my inheritance, you don't have to think about that at all! You become one with the air around you allowing you to move in any and every direction at no effort at all!"

"This is the power I grant you as King Arkin."

After that sentence, I was enveloped in a cloud of white lights similar to what Layla had done.

However, unlike with Layla's gift, Arkin's was hundreds of times more powerful. So before being able to once again divulge into the wonderful feeling that it brought along, I was knocked out by the overwhelming amount of information.

Unfortunately because of this, I wasn't able to get the answers to the questions I had about what Arkin said.
