Chapter 35: We Gonna Make It!

Immediately they looked at where it came from and saw a huge and terrifying dragon descending on them with such impact that all intention of the fighting between Malcom and the merchant vanished completely.

Malcom activated his boots with speed and took Skyler to get her out of the way. With one of his cards activated a n invisible cloak and dropped it on both of them.

At the same time, the merchant activated his own spell to make his wagon disappear.

The dragon swooped down and shook the floor. Skyler and Malcom watched the gigantic creature in terror as the merchant disappeared before their eyes.

They had both made themselves invisible, but both Malcom and Skyler knew the danger which was far from over.

Malcom took Skyler with both hands and got prepared to run if necessary, and he would expend all of his physical energy to do so.

But the dragon sniffed the air, and with a sigh, its breath fell on the merchant's cart, nullifying his invisibility spell.

The merchant's face instantly appeared in front of the dragon. His expression was so terrified that he could not even scream. The last sight of him was when the dragon's jaw opened, releasing flames, engulfing and charring him to death.

In a blink of an eye, the merchant's body was devoured by the huge creature in one bit. The dragon then continued sniffing the air totally leisurely.

"Malcom, if it sends its breath here, we are dead..." Skyler said, whispering as low as she could

"Don't move. I'll take care of it," Malcom said. His expression tensed when he took a card from his arsenal.

After he did that, Malcom carefully moved as least as possible to come out of the blanket without revealing Skyler.

It took the dragon two seconds to notice the young man who was already shooting off towards the forest direction, using his boots at maximum speed.

And the dragon took less than two seconds to jump and take a flight to chase Malcom.

The dragon spat out a huge fireball that landed in front of the path where Malcom was running.

The young mage stopped in his tracks and, turning his body to face the gigantic creature that from the air began to release a curtain of the deadly fire that in a few seconds would cover Malcom completely and would surely burn him.

Malcom took the two cards he had drawn from his arsenal and activated them by creating a viraety of shields to form a wall in front of him.

He watched as the dragon approached, destroying everything in its path, and it only took him a second to realize that the fire would not stop with his shields.

'What the hell are you doing?!' Malcom chastised himself when he took a leap that raised him several meters in the air to escape the dragon's flame at the last second, using all the power of his boots.

His shields that were still in the place where he had conjured them, melted in fractions of seconds as the dragon looked up at him to search for his elusive prey.

'I must move!' He realized as he gritted his teeth in desperation. The dragon threw a ball of fire in that direction, and it was flying towards him fast.

The mage, who was still raised in the air, felt how the heat was approaching him.

Malcom leaped from the air to get out of the way and avoid the flare using his boots ability. Still, when his eyes focused on dodging the attack, he saw the dragon a few meters from him opening its jaw to devour him without regard.

Malcom, without using his cards, created a huge iron shield to lock the dragon's jaws. However, the dragon's jaws forced the shield to shatter.

Despite that, this gave the Marked the necessary seconds to get out of its mouth.

Malcom, still using his boots ability, moved in the air and seeing an opportunity, attacked. He took the dagger and turned it into a huge sword to attack the back of the dragon that was not far from him.

With the power of his boots, he approached quickly. He ran down the creature's back and began to try to cut it.

Despite his efforts the action was useless because his sword could not pierce the thick and powerful dragon scales.

He needed to give up.

However, before he could get away, the beast's tail bent to swat him off its back.

Malcom used his magic and created two shields. He turned his dagger into a third shield to attempt to withstand the impact, but this was useless.

Despite not carrying too much power, the dragon's tail smashed the magic shields as if they were crystal and hit Malcom to throw him towards the ground at full speed.

The boy tried to withstand the impact by placing his legs and activating the power of the boots. He landed as he could by standing, but the pressure was so much that he still rolled on the ground.

Rising to his knees, the man spat out a good portion of blood while searching through his cards.

"Don't faint! Don't faint! Don't faint!" He muttered to himself tensely.

However, when he heard the dragon coming towards him, Malcom's gaze blurred.

Before he completely passed out, he found two cards from his arsenal. Malcom took them out. He looked up and saw how the dragon had its jaws wide opened, ready to roast him.

Just before the dragon released its flames, Malcom activated one of the cards, and a smokescreen appeared.

Moments later, the young man appeared, running towards the forest through the side of the smokescreen at full speed.

The dragon began to spit fire in his direction, trying to cut off his advance. It would be a matter of time before the dragon got him right.

But at that moment, the figure of Malcom fired with even more speed, and the dragon persistently pursued him until he entered the forest.

From the smoke curtain, another Malcom appeared. He watched how his clone guided the dragon towards the forest and breathing aggressively. Malcom saw how the dragon's fire passed by the clone, leaving burns on the clone's arms.

Malcom was closely observing the creature. That trick would not work for long. However, it would give them the necessary time to leave.

With that, Malcom forced himself to move. It did not take long for him to return to Skyler's side.

He took the young woman and, then, unhitched the merchant's car. Malcom then mounted his transport. He took magic restoration potions to be able to move it.

Malcom advanced at such speed that the transport left the dragon behind in seconds. He could only keep the vehicle moving for five minutes before running out of magic.

Still, each time he felt his magic diminish, the young man ingested another restoration potion.

The girl watched him with curiosity and concern, the pain was increasing, but she managed to say a few words as they both moved quickly down the road.

"Malcom, don't keep taking positions. You're already intoxicated, and if you continue like this, you could die," she weakly said. Her voice, laced with worry.

The young man took his eyes off the road to wink at the girl before saying and taking another potion, "We will get to the city before someone dies, don't worry."

And so on, the path around him, from day morphed into the night, as the last position slid down his throat.

His vision was already blurry, and his numb muscles told him he was on the edge.

Luckily the city was already insight, and when the vehicle stopped, Malcom took Skyler and using his last strength, he advanced.

He ran with whatever he gave until his magic treasure stopped working out of exhaustion.

The city was so close that he could almost smell it. The guards on the walls would see him. He was sure of that. He took one more card and used the last bit of magic that he had.

Skyler was unconscious next to him, and he, too, would faint soon. The card released a strong white light that rose to the night sky and exploded.

Malcom had done everything he could, and at that moment, he lost consciousness.
