Chapter 8: Rejected and failed

"Own me like I'm yours."

"Own me like I'm yours."

"Own me like I'm yours."

Those words were repeated countless times in my head. I exactly remembered what I did earlier and how I hoped I could still change it.

"You're crazy bitch!" I embarrassingly whispered as I bit the bottom of my lip. I wanted to pull out my hair, but I didn't wish to be noisy while Lisandro slept peacefully right next to me.

Before we came to this enchanted place, I'd imagined a wild scene with him. His topless upper body was wrapped with sweats. His addictive moan and perfect face—I'd waited for it to happen. But it was new to me when he told me to stop.

"Stop," his voice raised suddenly. "I came here to take a nap."

The moment I'd heard that cold, lifeless voice—I tried to catch my breath and looked somewhere distant. It was a slap of reality that a poor woman has no power to be dominant. I felt too small of myself, but I'd never wish to be a hypocrite.

I knew my place. I knew where I belong, but even with how hard I tried to stop myself from not admiring a cold man beside me, I've always found myself being wrapped in his arms.

"What are the reasons, Lisandro?" I whispered as I thought of possible answers.

However, it would be difficult for me to know and read what was inside of his head. Lisandro was a secretive man and I've no right to question his rare personality.

As I listened carefully to the sweet voices of the birds, I suddenly sensed that he changed position. He was sleeping like a log—a perfect log. I'd tried not to steal gazes of him, but I'd failed to control myself once again.

His thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, down to his pointed, enchanting nose—everything seemed perfect. There were no exact words to describe Lisandro's features, but every woman would fall in love upon meeting him for the first time—just like what happened to me.

"I'd never thought I would be right here lying next to a perfect man before my eyes," I murmured.

As soft as silk cloth, I cupped his cheeks and let a soothing sensation flow into my veins. "You just told me your real age, and I'm wondering what would be the next? About your hairy back and strong complexion— your past in other words."

Inside of a stunning treehouse, I spoke with a man who slept like an alpha. But it was impossible to happen. A typical werewolf doesn't afraid of anything like the sunlight, the seawater like vampires.

I needed to know the truth if he was certainly a werewolf or he possessed both bloods of two prominent creatures.

"I couldn't thank you when you're conscious. That's why I am taking this moment for granted, to thank you enough for everything—for saving my sister's life."

Tears flowed into my cheeks. My heart filled with joy because Andrea was given a second chance to live. A chance to prove to the world that she deserved it—she deserved to appreciate the beauty of life. And that's all because of a man who believed in me.

A man who wholeheartedly helped a desperate woman for the sake of her last, beloved family.

My hands trembled as I savored every second with him. I'd broken the last rule, but I could still accomplish the agreement within six months. I must complete this task and live a peaceful life like what I'd promised to my mother before she died.

Deeply, I took a breath and wiped away the tears that covered my eyes. My vision turned hazy; my knees weakened like hopeless gelatin.

"Six months is just a piece of cake. I can do this! I will be free someday and start a new, simple life with Andrea—away from here—away from Lisandro Realm until I've found myself again." I murmured and let my tears flow like a river.

"Wake up," a sweet voice echoed around as I turned my head to the opposite side. "We're in the hospital to visit your sister."

As soon as I heard her name, I willingly opened my eyes, grabbed my back with no hesitation. I didn't think about how I looked anymore because I was too excited to see Andrea after a successful operation.

Excitement almost took away my sanity. I could hear the loud sound that came from my chest which made me anxious. "W-why didn't you tell me earlier? I should've bought something for her."

Lisandro took a deep sigh and nodded his head as he looked straight to the main entrance. It was tough to read his thoughts and the guilt within my system quickly vanished when I saw a bouquet and basket of fruits being carried by his assistant.

From afar, I caught a glimpse of him as he walked gracefully under the calm, vague sky. He's maybe ruthless, but there was a part of him that glowed unknowingly.

With a sweet smile on my lips, I chased him and ran like a snail. I understood the plain truth, my faith, and the life that I'd chosen. Nonetheless, I would keep in mind that selling myself to Lisandro was one of the greatest things that happened in my life.

I would never regret it. I won't forget him.

"Hurry up! The doctor told me that your sister was finally conscious and doing great," he said blankly.

I had a hard time, yet, he didn't stop and let me speak for a second. I tried to catch my breath, utter a single word, but it was rigid enough for me to do so.

"Whatever!" I replied, rolling my eyes like a spoiled brat who spoke with her ex-boyfriend.

But deep inside, I wanted to hug him, thank him for not breaking the promises that we had both made. Even he was not the man who hit-and-run my sister, he eagerly extended his hands that gave me hope and stick with my beliefs.

"Calm down. You're just showing how much you missed your sister," he murmured.

"I don't care!" I replied annoyingly.

I knew it seemed childish, but I couldn't control myself from not raising my voice on him. And perhaps, it's all because of what had happened in the treehouse.

I was rejected. I'd failed. I was a desperate, poor woman—and being rejected by the alpha was too unbearable and out of control.
