Lai Jiayi's appearance as she saddled her bike was a bit messy. The way she opened her mouth like chanting a spell was peculiar for the passerby who saw her, but…
Lai Jiayi didn't care whether people started to whisper when they looked at her. It couldn't be helped. Her old bike was indeed something odd in others' eyes.
Just looked around. No one rode a bike anymore, and even if they did, it would be an electric one, not a manual bicycle. Thus, Lai Jiayi's old bike stood up like an ancient artifact.
Lai Jiayi herself was too focused on arriving quickly. She didn't see a young man around her age was looking at her as she passed by.
Upon seeing Lai Jiayi, the spiky-haired youngster whistled on top of his white motorcycle decorated with LED light.
The young man crossed his legs on his slim motorcycle, looking at leisure. His legs didn't touch the ground. He didn't have to do that. The bike got a self-balancing system as well as a smart AI.
The youngster paused a bit. He looked at Lai Jiayi and thought,
'Someone still uses such an old bicycle?'
He's not the only one thinking like that.
Others around him also thought like that. They stared at her with eyes full of curiosity.
A teen sliding with a red floating skateboard passed by Lai Jiayi, and he mumbled, "Wow, is that a bike? Manual bike!" His eyes followed Lai Jiayi's back.
Another youngster said nothing and only shook his head, looking at Lai Jiayi's back figure. He immediately rode away with his one-wheel scooter.

"Uncle, look! Isn't that a bicycle?" A young boy's voice sounded inside a floating silver car. He pointed at Lai Jiayi's bicycle with curiosity in his eyes.
"..." A young man sitting next to the boy looked at the girl's direction and frowned.
"Yes. That's a bicycle. Why?"
"I have never seen that type! Someone still uses that?" The boy blinked his black eyes and whistled.
"Uncle, is that an antique?"
"No. That's a bicycle, a vehicle for the poor, " The young man explained. "...if you want, I can buy it, " the young man offered in a cold voice. His eyes were still following Lai Jiayi's bike.
"Ah, no, no need. That bicycle looks bad. Not cool." The boy shrugged, and the window car rolled up again.
The young man only nodded, simply brushed it off. "Go to the X hospital, " he ordered his male driver.
"Yes, sir!" The car drove away in the same direction as to where Lai Jiayi headed.
Thankfully, Lai Jiayi wasn't aware of these two's conversation and the people's weird eyes looking at her along the way.
She didn't have time for that. Her only thought was...to arrive as soon as she could!
15 minutes later….
"Hhhh...hhh...excuse me...where is...Mr. Lai's room?" Lai Jiayi asked a receptionist who tied her hair in a bun.
The white light of the hospital shone upon the woman's emerald green power ranger-like suit.
"Mr. Lai? Oh, you must be his daughter." The receptionist smiled a bit. "Wait a minute," she said before looking at the hologram screen in front of her eyes.
With just a slight touch of her finger, various numbers and data appeared.
Lai Jiayi nodded anxiously. The girl fidgeted for a while, waiting for the receptionist to answer.
'Please...hurry!'
After a second passed, the receptionist found Mr. Lai's information.
With a professional smile on her face, she replied,
"Mr. Lai is in ICU right now, please head to the right and walk straight. At the end of the corridor, you will find the ICU."
ICU?
BA-THUMP!
Lai Jiayi's heart stopped beating for a second. Her pupil enlarged. Her breath stilled.
Lai Jiayi's face rapidly turned as white as a paper. The girl almost fainted, but she endured.
She hastily bowed down, her hair covered half of her face. "T-thank you," she said in a hurry. The girl then raised her body and slowly left the receptionist table.
Her face was still pale as she wobbled a little, walking toward the ICU direction.
From behind, she looked like a walking dead.
As she walked down the corridor, Lai Jiayi lowered her head. She wobbly walked toward the ICU and stopped a few meters in front of the big door.
Looking up, she saw the LED placard with a word written on it, ICU.
The light was currently dim.
"Dad…" Lai Jiayi mumbled as she walked back and forth, not knowing what to do.
The girl was in a daze when someone's footsteps suddenly rang in the long corridor.
Startled, Lai Jiayi turned around and instantly saw a tall, handsome young man in a white lab coat. The man's coat got a futuristic pattern on it, glowing under the light.
He was clamping a thin blue hologram board under his armpit as he walked toward Lai Jiayi. His black, neatly combed hair somehow shone brightly.
There's a calm smile on his handsome face, similar to those doctors in Korean drama.
The doctor stopped a few meters in front of the girl and nodded at Lai Jiayi.
"Miss Lai?"
His voice was so soothing and serene that people would immediately swoon over him, except for Lai Jiayi.
'A-a man!'
Seeing a man in front of her, the girl subconsciously stepped back a little while clutching her necklace again.
'Calm down, don't panic…'
Lai Jiayi took a deep breath, trying to contain her fear by distancing herself around a meter away from the doctor.
"Y-yes, it's me." Lai Jiayi slowly raised her head to look at the young man talking to her, but upon seeing his black eyes, she couldn't help but have a panic attack.
BA-THUMP! BA-THUMP!
Her hands and feet turned cold right away yet she knew she didn't have time to care about her phobia.
Lai Jiayi immediately asked in a shaky voice, "D-doctor, where is my f-father?? L-let me see him! I-is he okay??"
The doctor smiled bitterly in response. In a low tone of voice, the doctor spoke,
"Miss Lai, I'm so sorry, but you can't see him right now. Your father is in critical condition. He needs surgery. His head was injured at work, and we have to do a complex surgery to save his life."
'Surgery?'
