On their 16th birthday, Carter-an outgoing, adventurous boys-and Cateline-a introverted, bookworm who barely leaves her room-are sold to human traffickers by their mother. They are separated and can only hope to see one another again.
While Cateline becomes more outgoing and willing to take risks, Carter is becoming a shell of a human.
