Chapter 22: Draw Lots

Fu Xiuyuan clearly knew that Shi Jin was reminding him not to do it either, but he was not angry and did not blame her. Instead, he liked it a lot since it meant that his girl knew that he cared about her.
Would she care if he got hurt as well?
His actions automatically got a little rougher just thinking about it.

Shi Jin pulled her foot back from the pain with her eyes smiling. "I'm going to bathe."
Fu Xiuyuan felt a void in his heart when her foot left his hand.
After contemplating for a while, he pulled out his phone and blacklisted Deng Yufei. Even though he wanted to know more about her, he should not use this method.

After the last live performance, the last thirty contestants were ranked.
In the next segment of the competition, the contestants that come in the last ten would get eliminated based on their combined results for the last two rounds. Hence, the upcoming contest was very important.
"The next round is a team effort. Everyone will be tested for their abilities to collaborate to write music and perform." The host introduced the rules from backstage. "Members of every team will draw lots to form a duo to perform and get voted on. Only the top 20 contestants can make it to the next round."
"For teams with odd numbers, one of the contestants will have the chance to draw the Lucky Lot and get to collaborate and perform with your instructor."
"Those with even numbers will just team up with each other based on their lots. If neither contestants are willing to form a team after drawing the same number, they have one chance to change teams."
Shen Qi had the most votes in Shi Jin's team. She was displeased when she heard the rules.
Yu Guannan's team started with seven members, so they were one man short.
Shen Qi had the best results in the team and consistently came in third or fourth place. She had a good chance of drawing the Lucky Lot and working with Yu Guannan. This would help increase her odds of winning vastly. However, Shen Qi had lost this chance as Shi Jin had chosen to join them and made them an eight man team.
She glanced at Shi Jin coldly. She said nothing as she sat in her seat to pull out her notebook and start writing a song.
The other six team members felt the same way.
"Draw your lots!"
Everyone quietly drew their lots.
The moment Shi Jin came over, they pulled their hands back and gestured for her to go first.
It seemed as though it would minimize their chances of getting the same lot as her if she went first.
Shi Jin did not turn down the offer. She reached her hand out to draw a lot and opened it to see two written on it.
All her team members secretly wished. "Not two. Please don't give me number two!"
Shi Jin listened to them praying as she stood in the center and could not help finding it hilarious.
Most of them did not want to work with Shi Jin. She did not turn up on time and had inconsistent performance, so no one wanted to put themselves at risk of elimination by working with her.
Also, if she made trouble and confessed to Chu Ling again, her partner would end up ostracized by Chu Ling's fans as well.
Only a fool would want to collaborate with her!
Even if they ended up with an unsuitable team member, it was far better than working with Shi Jin.
"I got number four!" said someone with relief. This meant that he did not have to team up with Shi Jin.
Chapter 23: Do I Have A Choice?

"I got 3!" Thank god!
"I got 3 too. Let's team up!"
"Haha! I got 1. Who else drew the same lot?"
Everyone felt fortunate not to get the same number as Shi Jin. All of them sounded relieved and the atmosphere seemed good on screen.
"Little Flag, what number did you get?" asked someone softly.
Shen Qi closed her eyes as she opened her lot. The instant she saw that it was 2 from the corner of her eye, she looked disappointed.
She had strong self-restraint and did not ridicule Shi Jin, but she remained upset in her heart. However, she could not force Shi Jin to pick another team with the camera rolling.
She was in a dilemma.
"Little Flag, shall we team up?" asked Hua Xin. The guy was relieved that he drew number four. However, his joy did not last long when he realized that his team member was equally bad as Shi Jin. Hence, he promptly refused to team up with the contestant with the same lot.
Hua Xin was a pretty good singer with consistently strong results, so he was far more popular than Shi Jin and the contestant he had to team up with.
Shen Qi said, "It's up to Little Stone."
Hua Xin glanced at Shi Jin. "What say you?"
"I don't mind." Shi Jin seemed nonchalant and left them to team up.
Shen Qi was clearly relieved and quickly walked away with Hua Xin. She seemed worried that Shi Jin might change her mind.
Everyone else had formed teams, so only Shi Jin and another girl were left.
Her name was Gu Qinghua. Since she had drawn number four, she was supposed to team up with Hua Xin. However, Hua Xin was insistent, so Gu Qinghua was forsaken.
Gu Qinghua was very good at songwriting and only that. She got nervous whenever she went onstage.
It was understandable that Hua Xin did not want to work with her.
Shi Jin was aware that Gu Qinghua was not an incompetent singer. Instead, her vocals were so good that they were recording quality.
She simply got anxious the moment she went on stage and had to face the audience.
Yu Guannan was powerless about her problem and had allowed her to perform whatever she could and kept his fingers crossed.
If masks were not used to shield her from the audience's eyes, she probably would not have even made it past the top thirty. Hence, Gu Qinghua was unconfident in nature. Despite her talent, she was too shy and introverted to speak.
In her previous life, she only ranked slightly better than Shi Jin. She ended up cultivating a career backstage and struggled for ages before she became a renowned producer and songwriter.
Gu Qinghua did not give up on her even in Shi Jin's worst moments in life. Although they barely knew each other through this competition, she even wrote a song for Shi Jin.
It was not just a song that Shi Jin needed at that time. Instead, she was on her last legs. She merely managed to survive a little longer after Gu Qinghua gave her the song. However, Shi Jin felt forever indebted to her.
She touched her mask before she walked over to Gu Qinghua and reached her hand out to say, "It seems we have to work together."
"A-aren't you worried that I would pull your results down?" stammered Gu Qinghua a little when she raised her head to look at Shi Jin.
"Do I have a choice?" Shi Jin smiled.
Even though Shi Jin sounded powerless, Gu Qinghua knew that Shi Jin was trying to save her from embarrassment.
