Chapter 16: Chapter sixteen: Tricking the King
It took all of Onyx's training___from not revealing her emotions to her mother___not to jump at the sound of her servants returning. Her heart took flight from her chest as she came back to her senses.
She couldn't believe she had been groping her new servant, or the desire thumping through her system.
She blinked severally to clear all the irrational emotions from her mind and lowered her hand from the girl's breast. She could still feel them tingling.
" I believe your food has arrived, " she managed to say in a steady voice without revealing the turmoil of emotions swimming through her.
She took her servant's hand to lead her towards the door. Not her intention but is like she couldn't help touching the girl.
When she felt resistance she turned to look at the girl wondering what the problem is?
Her eyes landed on her naked flesh, and immediately she burned with the desire to reach out once again. She looked away quickly before she follows her thoughts with action.
The girl was just too beautiful but why was she affecting her this.
Instead of answering her internal musings, Onyx decided to clear out of the room, but not before leaving instructions to the blonde.
She made sure to keep her gaze slightly above her head, and not on the tempting flesh on display from the open shirt.
" Join us when you are done, " she barked and left before she did something stupid like kiss the blonde.
No, she shouldn't be thinking this way.
It was dangerous and will lead to their death should she carry on with this insanity.
Determined to control herself better, Onyx matched out to the outer chambers.
Her maiden servants were setting up the food they got on the small table in the center of the room and from what she can see they brought enough food to feed half the guards in the palace.
The sight of the food reminded her that she hasn't eaten anything herself.
Sitting there like a lamb beside the King she had not had any appetite for food because all she could think of was what was coming next but now she was feeling the emptiness of her belly and could eat.
Her servants heard her approach and pause what they were doing to bow in her direction.
" Your Highness, " Sally, and Mei bowed.
Onyx waved her hand for them to rise.
" I think you guys emptied the kitchen, " she joked eying the plenty of food on the table.
Sally blushed, while Mei's attention was lost in the direction the Queen emerged from. She was looking for the new servant and was wondering why she didn't come out after the Queen.
" She will join us after she is done changing her dress, " Onyx said out loud seeing the direction her servant was looking.
" So how did you find the kitchen this quick? And how come you were able to get this amount of food? " Onyx asked taking the only seat beside the table while her two servants settled on the floor.
" We sneaked out from the hall during the wedding ceremony to explore the palace and find out things for you. The food was all Mei, " Sally answered shooting her friend a smile.
The other servant was the reason they came away with the amount of food they had.
" My Queen do you know that the kitchen is ruled by the first Concubine, " Mei began in an excited voice. She has always loved to gossip and prides herself on knowing everything that is happening.
Onyx frowned.
" What do you mean? "
" When we went to get food one of the kitchen staff refused us taking food until the first Concubine servants have taken food for their mistress. We explained to her that we were the Queen's servant that is when she let us take what we wanted. "
" More like yelled at her, " Sally mumbled behind her hand giggling as she recalled the way Mei had gone off on the poor woman.
" Don't listen to her my Queen, I merely pointed out as a new Queen has arrived in the palace that it is her right to be served first before any concubine. "
Onyx smiled shaking her head at her servant. The girl can be bold and vicious sometimes.
Her action though hilarious left her thinking. She needed to know about the concubines and their families so she could know how to deal with them.
" Mei, Sally " she called getting their attention.
" Yes, My Queen, " they chorused looking up at her.
" I want you to find out everything you can about the concubines and their families and any other thing else you think I need to know. "
Growing up in her household and witnessing the internal squabble between her mother and her father's concubines she had an idea of how things work and like her mother she doesn't intend to allow herself to be trodden upon by the other women. She intends to give as much as she is given.
" We will get you all the information you need, My Queen, " Mei cried in an excited voice. This was something she loved to do. Sniff out gossip in places.
In her Lady's formal household there was nothing that goes on she doesn't know. Even some things her Lady doesn't know herself. Like her mother sleeping with the head guard.
She caught them one day on her way to the barn to feed her Lady's horses. They were locked in a passionate embrace, laughing that they didn't see her.
She had quickly hidden behind one of the trees close to the barn to watch them before making her escape.
She never told a soul what she saw, and she has seen them several times.
Movement from the direction of the inner chamber caught their attention and they all looked towards it.
Onyx felt her breath leave her when she saw the blonde in her clothing.
It was big on her but Onyx felt happy seeing her in her clothes.
" Here, " she called out to her making room beside her for the blonde to come and sit.
She felt the heat of the blonde's presence as soon as she sat down beside her.
She opened the dishes on the table and first served the girl.
She felt her servants watching her but paid them no heed.
She liked taking care of the blonde.
After serving the blonde, she made a plate for herself before the other servants made their plates.
" Feel better? " Sally asked as they started on their meal
She looked towards the blonde to hear her answer when Sally asked if she was feeling better.
She smiled when the blonde couldn't respond because she had her mouth stuffed with a lot of food inside.
She reminded Onyx of the monkeys in the forest with her stuffed cheeks and she looks cute.
She wanted to tell her to slow down hence she hurt herself but decided to let her be.
It pleased her to see the blonde not looking terrified.
They continued their meal in silence before it was once again broken by Mei.
" By the way, what happened to you? "
Onyx felt the servant freeze beside her which made her angry.
" Not now, Mei, " she barked at the girl glaring at her. She almost reached out to the blonde to console her but curbed the action in time. It would have looked weird to her other servants had she done that.
She was going to speak to Mei about her speaking without thinking sometimes. The habit was going to lead her into trouble one day.
After their meal, she knew she had delayed the inevitable enough. She needed to leave.
She turned to the blonde and instructed her to stay in her chambers since she has no clothing yet.
She quickly dismissed Mei's offer to lend the blonde her clothes as impractical. Both maiden servants were taller than the blonde as such their clothing wouldn't be the right fit.
Once the clothing issues were sorted___ she will be making the arrangements tomorrow___ she instructed the blonde to go in and rest.
She didn't care how odd it looked allowing a servant on her bed.
She watched the blonde leave before turning to face the door with a resigned look on her face.
It was show time.
While her servants gathered the bowls to return them to the kitchen she made her way towards the door and then opened it herself.
The old servant standing just outside the door with her head bent was about to expire from impatience and worry. It took a lot of strength and control to stop herself from pacing to death.
The Queen's delay was going to put all their heads on the chopping block.
She looked up hopefully when the door opened and released a breath of relief when the Queen emerged from her chambers.
The other servants kneeling on the floor all sprung to their feet and followed when the Queen passed them heading towards the King's chamber.
Onyx would have loved to make a wish to the Great god of Di Jun for her never to reach the King's chamber. She wasn't looking forward to the night with him.
The blonde sleeping in her bed flashed through her mind and she wished with her whole being that she was there with her.
When they got into the King's chamber the servants all hurried at the behest of the old servant to get the Queen ready for the King.
Onyx didn't appreciate all the fuss for something she wasn't looking forward to but she didn't complain.
Her feet were washed by one servant. Her hair taking care of. The veil over her face put back in place.
The room was lit with beautiful fancy candles and nice-smelling incense was lit. The ambiance of the whole place screamed romance.
Once they were through all the servants flushed out leaving Onyx to her thoughts.
She sat calmly on the bed fiddling with the small bottle underneath the sleeves of her gown.
She hoped she can pull off what she has in mind.
She heard the King coming from miles away and her heart skipped. The calmness she was trying to exude deserted her and she began to fidget. She grew nervous.
She took several deep breaths trying to calm her mind but none helped.
The door was forcefully pushed open banging hard against the wall as the King stumbled into his chambers drunk.
His steps were unsteady, his eyes red and unclear.
" Where is my beautiful bride, " he cried stumbling around.
Onyx did nothing to let the King know where she was. She kept silent watching the King stumble all over the place. Even when he crashed into one of the tables filled with fruits and other small cakes in the room she didn't go to him and remained frozen on the bed.
Finally, the King stumbled his way to his bed where his partially opened eyes spied his beautiful bride sitting calmly on the bed waiting for him.
" I have found you, " he cried with an excited drunk grin and lurched himself in her direction.
Onyx quickly stood up moving out of the way before she was pinned down by the King's weight.
" Oh my Lord, I have been waiting for you, " she cried in pretend excitement leaning down to move her fingers over his clothed chest.
The King crooned in pleasure.
" Is that so my Queen! I am here now, so you wouldn't have to wait any longer. "
The King moved to grab her but Onyx was quick to evade his hold.
" Oh, your Majesty, I am also eager for your touch but first a toast to our marriage, " Onyx went to the jar of wine on another table in the room and poured it into small cups, and then slipped something from the small bottle underneath her sleeve into one of the cups before heading towards the King, a fake smile on her lips.
" Here, to a new beginning, " she handed the King the cup that had the drug inside.
The King sat up took the cup and downed the drink in one go before pulling Onyx roughly towards him.
Onyx screeched as the cup in her hand tumbled from her hand to the ground splashing the wine all over the place but the King didn't seem to mind as he threw his Queen on the bed and pounced on her, kissing her all over the place trying to get to her naked flesh.
Onyx struggled against the unwanted touch of the King wondering when the drug will kick in.
She winced when the King roughly bit her lips before he kissed her aggressively.
His touch was repulsive and the feel of his lips on hers made her want to throw up.
She tried to push the King off when he started pulling at her gown but her strength was no match for his brute strength.
Tears welled up in her eyes. She didn't want this.
Just as the fight was living her she felt the heavy weight of the King on her and when she looked the King was passed out.
