Broken Wings

"Big man! I've come all the way from cold lands for this!" Lily growled as she shot forth with a great thrust of her spear.

Mahuta met it head-on and discovered that Lily was much stronger than she looked. The two exchanged blows and a flurry of attacks aided by their power. Lily was the first to change tempo as the ground beneath Mahuta froze, forcing a shift in his stance.

Lily thrust forth as an ice spike grew from the moisture in the earth. Mahuta barely slipped free of the fatal situation as roots coiled around the ice spike and shattered it.

Mahuta safely fell and rolled backward until his feet were under him once again. Lily giggled. "You look like fool, Skaiheda. "

"You're a tricky bitch." he said.

"That I am." she cooed. Her power then flared, and Mahuta lept into the air as ice protruded from the earth and grasped at him like a claw.

Mahuta's sword flew out his hand and attacked Lily with great aggression. He pressed her, and she gave ground. Mahuta formed a fist and the roots of the woods quickly bound her up to her neck and formed layers on layers, raising from the earth like a pillar.

Lily laughed maniacally and Mahuta frowned as he knew the reason for her laughter. He was trying to skewer her but she drained the water from roots and created an armor of ice around her body. The longer Mahuta held on, the more mana he expended and the stronger her ice armor became.

Mahuta decided to stop, and Lily caused her root prison to explode. As she landed, her eyes went wide with shock and pain. Blood filled her mouth as a mana-coated sword pierced her belly. Mahuta walked over grabbed her face as his other hand gripped his swords and pulled them from her gut.

"You did well, Lily Kom Azgeda." said Mahuta.

She showed a bloody smile like a crazed bitch with flaming eyes. " I almost had you."

"Almost," said Mahuta, he then pushed her face away and her whole body hit the ground. Trikru warriors rushed forth, and the Ngata moved to sop them.

"We only want to take the Natlooka," said Tristan.

Mahuta stopped his men, and the Trikru warriors quickly moved to stop the black speckled red blood pouring from her body. They then carried her away. Tristan frowned and recalled his men. Mahuta could see it in the General's eyes. The fight was far from over.

Mahuta watched as the Rangers reluctantly left. He stood tall and strong without the slightest sign of weakness. When the Rangers were gone, Lily Kom Azgeda wore a light bloody smile as she turned her barely functioning senses away from Mahuta. Mahuta's sense focused on her as well, until her eyes shut and he no longer felt her energy.

Mahuta's body trembled, and he emitted a low growl. He then used his sword as a crutch to hold himself up.

"How many?" asked Mahuta.

"Six, Chief." a woman replied.

"Collect our dead. Rest and get some food in you." Mahuta order as he fell to his ass the crossed his legs.

That night Mahuta sat crossed legged working on restoring his mana. The battle with Lily was well-timed but expensive. The Ngata tribe was resting, and Mahuta had no plans on moving until he was one hundred percent. Mahuta realized that his absorption speed was extremely slow. Unfortunately, he didn't have a teacher that could help him with this problem.

Mahuta sighed. He ate some food and got some sleep. When he woke the next morning. He and his warriors pushed it in the direction of Mira. It was easy to track such a big group, with few numbers, Mahuta at the Ark people's camp.

When the Ngata saw Mahuta return with their people, both dead in alive, they did not cheer. Mahuta called out in melodic tone and the death song weaved its way from the lips of the Ngata, into the land, around the souls of their departed to carry them to the afterlife. While many of them were raised with science, time spent with Mahuta nurtured their faith in the spiritual component of life.

The Ark people watch with curiosity as their children displayed a new culture. The partners of the dead cried and sadly, their parents weren't with this group of Ark People.

The day was spent mourning the dead and honoring them. All personal issues were put on hold until the dead were buried. Mahuta made it clear that he would never fight a senseless war, seek war, or force a warrior to fight. In the eyes of the Ngata, every fallen warrior was a sacrifice towards the tribes continued future. If a warrior could sacrifice their life, then the living could sacrifice a day and be completely selfless.

Mahuta all but wrote this new tradition into stone. As his warriors were being laid to rest, Raven was screaming her heart out while Dr.Griffin performed the most risky surgy of her career without anesthesia to save Raven's life.

Mira could sense Mahuta's displeasure and desire to be with her. But this sacrifice was one of the many responsibilities as a chief. During this time, a team of ark guards returns with Bellamy and Finn. Finn rushed over to Mahuta but was stopped by his people. Finn shouted a series of questions and profanities but Mahuta ignored his existence as did the rest of the tribe as dirt refilled the graves of the fallen.

Finally, a warrior pointed a pistol at Finn. "You disrespect our dead and our Chief," he said.

The Ark Guards immediately raised their weapons. Mahuta sighed and stood up. He walked to the altercation and spoke clearly for everyone to hear.

"Everyone in my tribe is armed. If you want to do this, then let's do it. If you have a problem, then speak. But if you insist on doing it 'right now', while we're burying the dead that fought to save your worthless lives and my woman is fighting for her life, I will kill you. I promise you that!" Mahuta was furious. He eyed Finn and added, "Starting with you."

Mahuta then reached over and calmed his people down. They then turned around and went to watch the fallen be buried. Mahuta didn't apply any pressure. Something inside of him wanted them to act so that he could end them in the most vicious way possible.

As the camp cooled down, Finn walked to into the ark to check on Raven, who was now passed out due to overwhelming pain.

When night came, Kane, Callie, and Dr. Griffin spoke to Mira and Mahuta, mostly asking for help.

"I have one question." said Mahuta, "Why didn't you guys just fly the entire ark down in one piece, using the ring as the control center, which it was designed for, instead of ejecting it? Relocate the parachutes from the inoperable exodus ships and then have all of them deploy on the way down? The ark would more so be intact, less people would have died, and Chancellor Jaha would be down here."

The adults didn't know how to reply.

"B-because they're all idiots." Raven groaned from her operation table.

Mahuta gave her a warm smile. "Welcome back..."

"I'm not going anywhere without you."

"I can see that." Mahuta replied with a quick wink, "Lay down and be quiet. You need all the rest you can get."

Mahuta turns to the adults and sees that none of them has an answer. "Fine. Rule #1. If you are not family, you earn your way into the Ngata tribe. Everyone we find will be sent here, to you. Rule #2, Even exchange: you want something you give something of equal or greater value. Rule #3, Like the grounders, your rules do not apply to my tribe. And Rule #4, I take orders from no one."

It was a hard pill to swallow, and the rules that Mahuta stated had a deeper meaning. The Adults knew this, and their approach to Mahuta quickly changed.

"We only want you to search the closest wreck. You watched us come down. You have a better idea of where we landed than anyone." Said Callie.

Mahuta wore a devilish smirk. "Do you want me to draw a map of approximate locations?"

"That would be--"

Callie grabbed Abby's arm to stop her from speaking. Callie understood that Rule #2 applied to everything.

"No. That'll be fine. Search the first wreckage as payment for saving Raven." Said Callie.

"I see where my wife gets it from," said Mahuta.

Callie looked uncomfortable, and Mira snorted in contempt. Mahuta chuckled at their antics.

"Deal." said Mahuta, "Anything else?"

"Finn says that you know the grounders, and you escaped the kidnapping. Do you know who has Clarke?" Abby asked.

Raven slightly lifted her head and awaited Mahuta's response.

"No Idea, everything happened so fast. Raven was hurt, and I only focused on getting her back to Little Creek." Mahuta lied as he didn't want the new arrivals to interfere with his plans of revenge on the Mountain Men.

"Bellamy says that he found bodies at this 'Little Creek'. Was your camp also attacked?" Kane asked with a scrutinizing gaze.

"We were. Deformed monstrous men from the caves came out. They smelled of death and rotting flesh. Cannibals, I assume. We handled them." Mahuta explained. "Will that be all?"

---------------------------------------

Mahuta led his people back to Little Creek. Raven still laid in a carriage, though this time she was awake and distraught. She had suffered nerve damage, and her left leg no longer responded to her signals, making her a cripple. This infuriated Mahuta beyond words. He couldn't even look at Raven, and it only served to deepen her depression.

Along the way to Little creek, the Ngata Tribe stopped at the nearest crash site. It wasn't exact, but once they followed the debris, they saw a wreck with millions of scattered pieces, scattered bodies, and fires still burning after days.

The only survivor was a young girl with brown hair with dark eyes named Mel Beatly. From her, Mahuta learned that Factory Station was destroyed, and she was the only survivor. Mahuta made the call to bring her into the tribe and pick the wreck clean. It was easier to tell Ark Camp that everyone died and scavenge the wreck than to send Mel back and waste manpower.

After a week of scavenging, expansion, and healing, Little Creek was in a good place. Many log cabins were built and in the process of being built. More generators were built. Mahuta led the charge as Raven wasn't in the best shape since she lost the use of her left leg.

The Ngata Tribesmen's parents joined Little Creek to be with their kids, which also included Callie, Mira's mom.

It was bad during the first days, and Callie almost gave up and left, but Mahuta told her about the child to be and asked her to stay. As long as they were alive, they could fix what was broken.

Mahuta also knew Mira very well. So, he told Callie to keep trying every day and face whatever kept her from loving Mira unconditionally. His kid would never know his parents or grandfather, but at least they could know Callie, and that's what Mahuta wanted.

Speaking of trying every day, Mahuta visited Raven every day faithfully. He started with comfort, and then he realized who he was comforting. He then made her a crutch. A few days later, he dropped off a leg brace made of the best material he could get around Little Creek.

He then gave her tasks of stuff to fix and asked for ways to improve what they had. He then musters up some parts, the last engine in camp, and told her to get humvee started for no reason at.

Finally, Raven had limped out of her tent. With a radio in hand.

"No," said Mahuta, and she looked confused.

"If you're coming out, the first thing you out to be doing is moving into my place," said Mahuta.

"I'm a lot of responsibility to take on." said Raven, "Are you sure you can manage a pregnant wife and a crippled one."

"Yes, Bitch! He's sure!" Mira shouted in anger, " While you've been wallowing, he's been picking up your slack. Now get your fucking ass out here so our man can get some sleep!"

Raven didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Mahuta just smiled at Raven. Raven walked to him with a limp. She was getting used to the brace, but it was built well and the only thing holding her back now was her.

When she finally made it to him. The lover shared an intensely passionate kiss. When they parted, Mahuta sniffed her.

"You need to bath, Birdy. And so do I. Come on." he said.

He then shouted to the camp, and everyone cleared the creek as it became a no-go zone for the rest of the day, for everyone who wasn't family. Raven looked around and saw cabins completely built and while others were being built by the whole camp. It was like they were putting up tents as they moved with coordinated precision, naturally increasing their production speed.

Sometime later, the lover had just finished washing when a dead man appeared at the Gates of Little Creek asking for Skaiheda.
