Chapter 22: Mealma's Imperial Knights

"I want you to meet, Ayensi Sole Tiowen. I found him as a promising young man. Skills undoubtedly remarkable. That's why I want to present him to you as the possible new Captain of the Imperial Knights."

Emperor Hustein announced in front of the current knights of their empire.

'That's what my dearest daughter told me. Since she doesn't want her name to be mentioned, I placed myself in her story.'

He then looked around the four people that was kneeling in front of him. Meanwhile, Ayensi stood on the lower platform while wearing a smile.

'I don't know why this man which I suspect is a God would want the position of being my Imperial Knight. If anything else, I think this is a test for me. While I serve and grant the wish of this God, I have to be steady not to ruin the trust of my subjects towards me. Now... let's see what their reactions will be.'

As the emperor awaits, the four Imperial Knights looked at each other, confused.

They all clawed their way up to that position. None of the four didn't experience the hardship and trials in reaching the place. But now, someone was granted, not only their position but their captain.

They don't know how to react but they do know what to feel - envy.

However, the first thing they thought was about their current captain. What would they feel?

They all took a glance at their captain who was kneeling slightly nearer to the emperor than them. They couldn't see his expression, only the counselors, elders, and the emperor does.

Seeing that there was no objection, Emperor Hustein thought as he saw that the captain was having a calm expression.

'I'll reward him later for making this easy...' the emperor thought.

But suddenly,

"If I may ask for clearance, Great Emperor, when would be the time will this man, Ayensi be able to claim the title of the Captain of the Imperial Knights?" the current captain asked with a polite voice, yet, heavy nonetheless.

"The time?" Emperor Hustein glanced at Ayensi for a bit before answering, "If possible, today."

This initiated a buzz of reaction. Not just from the Imperial Knights but also the counselors and elders in the throne hall.

"I know that this is sudden but if you see Ayensi's capabilities, you will all know what I mean."

Emperor Hustein had yet to see Ayensi in action.

'Even if he isn't a God, for him to step onto a Guardian's head without fear, he should at least have the strength behind it.'

"Then, If I may please, Great Emperor, shall test him." the captain suggested.

"Excellent, I trust you take care of him well, Captain Gragan."

Captain of the Imperial Knights, said to have the strongest power all over the Empire of Mealma, Gragan Treymard.

"Then, if you will excuse, Great Emperor." Captain Gragan then looked at Ayensi and said;

"You, come with me."

The other three Imperial Knights followed their captain, casting envious glances over. Their capes proudly fluttered along with the wind.

"Calm your rage, Shiena. They are just envious." Ayensi smirked.

"S-sorry, Master, if I look unsightly." Shiena then turned red.

Ayensi began following them and half-heartedly commented, "Don't say that, you're very beautiful."

Hearing this, Shiena was so stunned that she didn't know how to react.

Meanwhile, the others in the throne hall just noticed Shiena's presence.

"Just who is this man and woman the emperor took in? I don't understand."

"Maybe the emperor wants the woman?"

"You mean the emperor finally got over the late empress? If that's true, I will try and groom my daughter. Being the emperor's concubine will be her greatest prosperity."

"If that's true, then that young man is also fated to suffer? I think the captain caught onto that."

Unknown to these elders and nobles, the Guardian of Spirit is listening to them.

"Spirit is all around us. I can hear, smell, feel, and see through them. Although I can only be up to thirty-eight places at a time, that doesn't mean I will not be able to hear you."

Spirit looked from the old room, surveilling what is happening. However, instead of getting angry, she was scared.

'If I can hear this, definitely Celestial Shiena and even Master Ayensi can too...'

But she was wrong. Although Ayensi could hear it, he doesn't really care. As long as they don't impede his way. Meanwhile, Shiena was too stunned by what she heard that Ayensi's words were encircling her head instead.

Ayensi followed the four along with Shiena. On their way, many palace workers and keepers bowed their heads towards these Imperial Knights while they were baffled by the beauty of these two behind them.

They first thought that Ayensi was a girl just from his face. However, they soon found the masculinity in his aura. And also, his chest was as flat as a board.

Ignoring him, they were soon tranced into gazing upon Shiena while the female palace workers upon Ayensi.

This made the three Imperial Knights more uncomfortable.

After a few minutes of walking, they soon arrived at a wide plain area that not even a single grass grows. Looking around, there seemed to be traces of battles and sword marks.

Captain Gragan then turned around and said, "You are not fit to be here. You may fool the emperor since he is past his prime but you cannot fool us. Who are you and what is your plan?"

Slowly the other three Imperial Knights surrounded them with their swords up.

Two males and one female. Soon, they realized Shiena. Indeed, they were captured by her beauty. However, after all the training and hardship that they have gone through. There is no way mere hormones can impede their jobs.

"I know this may sound boasting but we, Mealma's Imperial Knights are known to have near half the strength of a Guardian... together. Unless you are a Guardian, which you are not, or someone blessed by the Highest with insane talent, skills, and luck, you cannot hope escape us, much less defeat us."
