"I don't understand Adrian," the man standing in front of a huge lake whispered, "how is it that I lost the plot and not only that but I also lost my witch in the same night." 

Adrain did not miss a beat before answering, "the guard on the duty that failed to capture the witch after she ran away has been punished, sir." 

"Yes, yes," Nathaniel muttered, "you killed him before I could interrogate him. That was something I did not like, Adrian. I hope you learn your lesson." 

Adrian's eyes went to his left hand that had been deprived of his two fingers. As a Vampire, he should have been able to heal if he placed the fingers from where they had been separated but Nathaniel had made his starved wolves chew them. 

"I understand sir," he nodded. "What do we do now?"
