7am.
I quickly sat up and reached over to shut my alarm off. It was finally the weekend and as much as people get to relax on the weekend, I have to catch up with a lot of my college assignments so that it is easier for me during the week when I have to juggle my two jobs as well.
After saying a quick prayer, I hopped out of bed and made my way to the shower. After my shower, I did my facial routine including putting a little makeup on. Once that was done, I went to tackle my 4c hair that was still in its natural state. I wet it a little bit then proceeded to put some eco styler gel around the edges, grabbing my brush and getting to work. After putting my hair in a bun, I worked on my edges and laid them down.
When I was done in the bathroom, I proceeded to walk out to my bedroom and pick out my outfit for the day. I picked out a black turtleneck bodysuit, alongside a pair of black jeans and a pair of converse.
When I was dressed, I quickly took a few selfies in my floor length mirror and proceeded to rush to my kitchen, fixing my self a bowl of cereal and quickly taking it down.
I picked up my book bag that contained everything I need for school and proceeded to power walk to the bus stop.
20 minutes later...
Finally making it to university, I made the 15 minute walk within the campus to the library. I walked in, signed in and made my way to the second floor of the library, where you were mandated to stay silent.
I pulled out all my books and laptop, arranging everything on the table. I then went ahead and said a short prayer in hopes that I would get everything I need to do done.
I had 5 assignments due. Three of them were group projects and the other two were individual assignments, all due within the same week. I wasn't really stressing because I had finished all my parts for the group assignments and handed them in to the group representative. All I had to do was finish my individual assignments which were both half way done, and work further on my FYP (Final Year Project) seeing how I had a semester and a few weeks left before I graduated.
1 hour later...
"Heyy babes!", my head shot up quickly when I heard the voice of my best friend Shari. I saw here quickly walking over to me cheesing hard as hell.
"Bestieeee! What it do baby?" I got up as she approached my table and quickly engulfed her in a hug, swaying side to side for about 2 minutes. I hadn't seen her in about two weeks due to her having to fly to Austin, for a family emergency.
"How is ma doing? was the surgery a success?", I asked her as we both sat down.
I had met her whole family and even stayed with them for about 6 months when I had just gotten out of my foster home at 18. We were both originally from Austin, Texas but moved to Atlanta to get our degrees.
"Oh thank God the tumours were benign. They managed to get them all off her liver by cutting that section out. But you know how fast she will bounce back girl". I tried to follow along as she spat out her words super fast, something she did when she was excited about something.
"Girl, what exactly has you this excited?" I asked her as I burst out laughing.
"Shhhhhhhh". I quickly kept quiet as I heard multiple people on the floor shush me.
"Sorry" I quickly whispered out in embarrassment.
"Girl forget about these people," Shari whispered out to me as she quickly made me face her to tell me what had her this giddy.
"Girl what is that on your ring finger?" I asked her the moment I saw the huge ring flash on her hand.
"Listennnnn this is exactly what I wanted to tell you! Justin actually made time and came down to Austin to see my family. He proposed!" I went into shock, basically speechless as I watched her grinning from ear to ear. I quickly pulled her into a hug, happy for her and Justin.
"Shar hold on, we need to go somewhere so you can properly let me know what happened." I told her as we got another "shhh" from the people in the library.
"Let's go then!" She said. bouncing in her seat.
"You and I both know the amount of work we both have. Let's put in at least an hour and a half or two then we can leave and go somewhere." I let her know, hating on having to rain on her parade a little bit.
"Ughhh these last two semesters will finish me." She said as she pulled out her laptop and books and got to work on her assignments as well.
"Tell me about it. Having all these assignments alongside our FYP is ghetto." I said as I finished off my first assignment and got to work on the second one.
2 hours later...
After finally submitting my last assignment of the semester, as well as Shari, we quickly packed up and headed to our favourite cafe on campus, Mo's.
When we got in, we headed to our favourite booth at the back and sat down.
"Welcome to Mo's, may I get you ladies anything?". We were greeted by a tall girl, with chocolate skin that resembled mine and a bright blue wig that was slayed to the T!
"A hot chocolate and double chocolate chip brownie with a scoop of ice-cream." Shari said without even having to look at the menu.
"Umm can I have a hot chocolate as well with the hot fudge brownie as well as a slice of banana cake." I let her know, deciding to treat myself a little bit seeing how I would be getting paid in about 2 days.
"Hold up girl, who installed your wig? Because ohh my days it is laid. Hook a girl up." I let her know, interested in getting my hair done.
"Oh. Thank you!, I actually instal my hair on my own. I have a page on instagram you can follow and make an appointment."
"Oh yeah let me get it." I said as I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and opened my app for her to put in her username. After following her, I let her know I would be making an appointment and with that, she walked away to get our orders.
"So girl, spill the beans on this engagement!" I told Shari, eager to listen to her love story since I had virtually none of my own.
"Okayyy. So you know how I had to go home, I let Justin know what was happening and he was sad about everything that was happening and all that. Anyways, I got there and obviously we went in with ma for her surgery. The week after he flew out and surprised me as well as the whole family at the hospital."
"Awww girl, that is so sweet!"
"I'm telling you! So he came in with flowers and all and then ma was released so we went home. He actually came by everyday to hang around with all of us Amaya, so you can imagine how in love everyone is with him. So anyway, two days before we left, he decided to take the whole family for this fancy dinner and at the end of the dinner he stood up and made a toast. Yo, he started telling everyone how lucky he is that I am his and before you knew it, he was down on one knee and popped the question with this gorgeous ring!." She narrated the story to me with such a dreamy look in her eyes.
"Ohh my gosh!" I squealed out loud, drawing attention from the people in the diner.
"You actually found your knight in shining armour. I'm so happy for you Shari, God literally made this man for you. Congratulationsss! " I told her with a huge smile on my face.
Justin and Shari were meant to be. They met in our first year which happened to be Justin's final year and they hit it off immediately. Justin is super well off, being the manager of one of the biggest management companies in the country. He takes care of my girl way better than I ever could have hopped for so you know I'm more than happy for her.
As a pre-graduation present, he gifted her a salon, which she had gutted and was in the process of revamping.
"Girl, thank you so much! I love you!"
"I love you more girl. You deserve this and more."
After we were done, we split up and headed our separate ways, knowing we would be seeing each other on Monday for our classes.
When I got home, it was about 6pm so I put on Netflix and got. caught up on the episodes of Dynasty that I had missed during the week. A couple of hours later after having dinner and tidying up the house a bit, I hopped in the shower, did my night time skin routine and got ready for bed.
When I was dressed in my pyjamas, I fell on my bed, thinking about how I really had no one besides Shari. I knew that I wanted to start looking for my siblings who I hadn't heard from in 8 years. We completely lost touch. I always thought my sibling would stick to their promises and try to find me but they never did.
Why go out of my way to look for people who gave up on me?
I can only hope that I will find someone that loves me as much as Justin loves Shari and be able to start a family someday.
