10. Dynamic Duo Part 3

[Spiders Exterminations!]

[Mission Difficulty: Iron]

[The Poison Spitting Spiders' number had greatly increased throughout the years. They are growing in numbers every day. And it needs to be stopped, or else the spiders would look for another nest and might even attack humans in the process.]

[Penalty upon failure, DEATH.]

Fritz's eyes grew wider. 'D-death? Is the iron mission that difficult?!'

[No. Actually, iron is the easiest mission.]

The system replied to his questions and then continued...

[There are six types of missions. The easiest is the iron whilst the diamond type of mission is the hardest.]

[Rewards will be distributed upon clearing the mission.]

Newt was staring intently at him. He was wondering why Fritz suddenly spaced out. "Fritz? Fritz!" Fritz was back from reality. He glanced at Newt and put a smile on his face. "We will need to reach the dungeon before the sun sets." Newt rants.

Fritz shook his head and his finger. "We will take a detour. I remembered what Demiurgus said to me before we left."

"What is it?" Newt asked.

"We will be clearing the spiders' nest first. There will be a heck of a lot of them. So better be ready."

[I am now displaying the map of the forest.]

'Oh! A map. Thanks a lot. Wait, what do I call you?' Fritz asked inside his head. He again came to a stop.

[I don't have a name. You can call me any name you want.]

[Map displaying completely. Showing spiders' nest location and calculating the distance towards it...]

'It's near a lake. About 300 meters away from here.'

"How long are you going to stare into thin air?" Newt let out an exasperated sigh. Fritz asked for forgiveness and dragged Newt into the spiders' den.

'I had not decided on a name yet. I will think of it later.'

[Please take your time. Also, I have sent spider's poison potion. There are only two of them, though. One is for you and, one is for your party member.]

Fritz displayed his inventory and looked through his items stored inside.

'Oh sweet, potions!'

[Spitting Poison Spider's Antidote Potion]

[Just pour the potion into the contaminated skin and, it will cure the poison.]

With the use of the map given by the system, Fritz and Newt safely avoided encountering monsters. The two reached the lake. It was about 7 feet deep and was particularly small. It was contaminated by the spiders' poison, so there was no fish living in it. The creepy crawlers' den was on the other end of the lake. They took a turn around and carefully watched their steps as they covered their nose with their hand. The smell of the poisoned lake was going through their nose. It was giving them a weird feeling.

A small bird landed on the ground, slowly jumping pecking for food. Newt watched the bird as it touched the water. Its skin suddenly turned black when its feet touched the water.

"Hiek! Look at that bird. It's dead! It died in an instant. It barely touches the lake's poisoned water!" He was pointing a hand at the now blackbird.

"This was a scam!"

Fritz hushed him down. There were spiders nearby. But they weren't even in its den. 'I guess their numbers really that high. I can't count all of them here on the map.'

The map showed red dots, representing the monsters, and there were too many of them in one spot. There were red dots scattered too. "Let's do this sneaky. We are at a disadvantage when it comes to numbers."

"We can split up and still talk to each other."

Fritz glanced back at Newt. "What do you mean?" He asked confusedly. Fritz could see Newt's nose sharpening.

"Hehe, I can use telepathy. About 100-meter radius. It's one of my two skills."

"Really? That's good then. Okay, we will split up. I will tell you where to go and what to do."

Newt put a thumbs up. And strode back into the forest, where Fritz told him to go.

"About five more meters, you will encounter two spiders north and three northeast about 3 meters."

"Got it!" It was like with the system. Fritz felt like he was talking to the system that was inside his head. Newt brought out his sword and used his second skill. 'Overdrive' is an active skill that buffs Newt's stats. It multiplies his abilities by two. His speed increased and, he became conspicuous.

Still, the spiders sensed him. They really do have a sixth sense. Even with all that sneaky movements, they were still able to detect his presence. It spats a ball of web in his direction. He used the trees to his advantage. He hid behind the trees and quietly climbed the trees. The spiders were waiting for him to come out and attack them. Ready to spit their ball of the web. Little did they know, Newt had already climbed the tree. Hiding among the huge trunks, standing above a branch. Newt uses the huge tree trunks to his advantage. He made use of it by dashing into the spiders' location. He was like a torpedo that was launched by the tree's trunk. His enemy was alerted, glancing in his direction. He was fast. It was too late for them to spit their ball of the web. Then, they met their imminent death. Newt sliced them into two. He picked up the spiders' drop as he leaped to the northeast, further into the reeking woods. Where three more spiders await him.

Fritz went in his assassin mode. He was trained to hide his presence and his intent to kill. He made sure that the spiders would not notice him. Every step, he made no noise. It was not perfect, but it was above average. There was no fear nor hesitation in what he was doing. His mind was clear.

"If I do this right, I can take out five spiders at once."

He cleared his lungs and equipped his dagger. The spiders were crawling everywhere near the lake. In their nest, wool of web was made. It looks really substantial. Fritz knows that it's an egg. Hundreds, no, thousands of spiders that egg might contain. He will take care of them later.

"The spiders' mother might be guarding her egg."

Fritz clutched his dagger. He jumped to his first kill and took it out in a single lethal strike. He changed from dagger to bow. Placed the arrow into the bow and fired two shots to different locations. He did it to instantly gain movement speed. He did not wait for the arrow to kill the two foes. He moved as soon as he released the arrow from his fingers as he switched back to his dagger and moved to the other four left.

A 5 meters distance between him and the four spiders was nothing. He reached his enemy in almost three seconds.

He attacked and struck the spiders elegantly. It looks like he was dancing under the sun at its peak. He was smiling. His attacks were all connected to the other.

"Fritz, where should I go next. I'm done here." Newt said through telepathy.

"Continue going forward..."

Fritz made Newt kill the spiders who were crawling further from their nest. The scattered ones. Fritz dealt with the spiders surrounding the spiders' den. There were too many, but they won't stop until they completely eradicate the spiders. Even other monsters, if they are on Fritz's way, he will kill them.

Newt was moving at high speed. Also, the EXP he was sending to Fritz. The latter just got a level up. It would take them a long time to kill all of the spiders. Fritz had planned something. With what he thought, he could kill a thousand spiders inside the egg and might even finish the mother spider if lucky.

"I'll burn them crisp." He made a sinister grin as he brought out a bottle of what seemed to be the same liquid Newt poured to the skeletons to burn them. "I can't believe that a monster's blood can be used to set something aflame. I didn't see anything like this in Arcadia's Realm."
